Im putting my money on the team that has the most tradition in winning the district and the regionals and thats Unaka Highschool love them or hate them they know how to win basketball games and they know what its like playing in the big game.

I have been around sports for a long time and to be honest it's a shame to see what coaches and players in Highschool athletics have to go through these days. It's down right pathetic when you have parents trying to tell coaches how to run there program.I am almost a firm believer that now a days it seems to be more about the parents then it is the kids.Let the kids play and let the coaches coach. There is no doubt in my mind that every coach in the state of Tennesee has there own style of coaching just like parents have there own style of doing there job at work.There are just some things parents are going to have to understand these days.Coaches are going to coach the way they want to coach.And they are gonna do everything possible to get through to there kids to make his or her team succesful. Some coaches are just competive and love nothing more than getting through to there players and trying to get them motivated because they want to see them do well at the game of basketball.For example Todd Wittamore from Volunteer Highschool.You want to hear cursing and swearing this guy makes Bobbie Knight sound like Mr. Rogers. But the thing about it is he loves everyone of those kids to death and would do anything for any one of them all of them are treated equal if one kid gets cussed out there all getting cussed out but after its over he is the first one who will be quick to give a pat on the butt or a high five.You could be stuck With a coach who doesnt care or doesnt show no emotion towards his team who is just out there sitting on the sidelines just to earn his pay.Its always the ones you see on the sidelines that catches your eye that you think are making an idiot of themselves but when you think about it those are the ones who care more than anything and I can promise you that and you think Highschool is bad if you have a son who goes on to play college ball and you try to tell a college coach how to run his program he will tell you nothing more than to tell your son to pack his bags and leave then.Because in the college game you are going to have to take criticism its part of the Highschool game its part of the College game and will always be that way.

Seems like the Watauga Conference this year will be interesting and exciting. 1.Sullivan Central- So far as of right night these guys are playing good basketball with a big impressive win over Sullivan East and the inside and outside game of these guys will be hard to stop when it comes time for conference play. 2.Hampton- Very impressive showing at the Hardees Classic defeating both Carter and Cherokee and finishing second place.The new coaching change and style of ball they are playing seems to be the trick to go along with a quick group of guards. 3.Happy Valley- There either on or there off.They were my favorite to win the Hardees but was upset by Crockett.They are the most athletic Happy Valley team I have seen in a while and they have the right players to run that style of offense lots of depth and having one of the best coaches in the state doesnt hurt either. 4.Unicoi- Have saw them play once this year and was very impressed.Coach England is in my opinion on of the best coaches in that conference they are athletic on the outside they have very good point guard and a good young talented group of post players this team.Look for them to upset some teams and make alot of noise come tournament time. 5.Volunteer- Lost 2 games down at the Pickett County tournament but still should be able to hold there own when it comes to conference play returning there point guard back and J.C Frazier dont count them out just yet they will still be tough when it comes to conference play. Sleeper.Elizabethton - Very young team Derek Nave could be one of the best players in the conference if he had a good supporting cast around him dont count them out yet though I like the way they play and coach harding knows how to win games.

Elizabethton is fortunate as of right now they survived week one of the playoffs. It took cherokees qb 3 quarters to finally wake up with the passing game not to mention why they didnt hand the ball off to the wallace kid he was a stud in the backfield.Elizabethton was very lucky in last weeks football game.Cherokees passing game did not come around till late 3rd quarter they had a touchdown called back and the receiver in the endzone drops a pass that hits him in the chest. Like I said Elizabethton played a tough game but the score was deceiving then what it should have been the other night.Elizabethtons passing game was pin point friday night not to mention the Bowers and Blevins kid running extremely well to. Next weeks task wont be so easy unless Matt Eads doesnt play its hard to replace a kid who nearly throws over 900 to a 1000 yards every year and has the head on his shoulders like he does but if he does play Elizabethton will be seeing about a 50 percent Matt Eads.His left hand does play a big part in this game especially him having to scramble out of the pocket of some plays for extra yardage but if not his receivers and lineman better be stepping up big time or East will be in big trouble. If you are East they better be prepared for Elizabethton friday night. Everyone knows in the nation who Elizabethton is going to when they pass the ball the Kennedy kid or the Nave kid 85 percent of the time if not him then Atkinson is the other.Cherokee did a horrible job the other night of not defending the Jeffers kid from scrambling or stopping the run or passing.Elizabethons backs arent that big but they know how to run the ball and they can catch the ball that is what makes them so tough when it comes to defending there passing and running there quick. How to stop Elizabethton from winning Friday night. 1.Put pressure on the Jeffers kid he buckles when the pressure is on Cherokee just sat back and let him run and pass the other night there for it paid of big. 2.Stick double coverage on the Kennedy kid #15 the majority of Elizabethtons pass plays goes to him and if you give him the slightest amount of space to catch it he will. 3.Play smash mouth football with there backs it looked like Cherokees linebackers was trying to dance with Elizabethtons ball carriers the other night when tackling. 4.Contain the Nave kid on defense or he will have a field day in the back field. How to stop East from winning friday night. 1.Come out ready to pound Eads he can only take so many hits ecspecially with that left hand being injured 2.If your Elizabethon try to cut down on key turnovers. 3.East likes to pass the ball so keep pressure on Eads make them run the ball. 4.Contain Eads from scrambling out of the pocket he is one of the smartest qbs in East Tennessee. Predictions.If Eads plays a full game and has no problems with the hand then East pulls this one out but thats a big if.Elizabethon is healthy playing great football and knows how to win football games right now but unless you bring a good game Friday night you will come out with a loss dont forget home field advanatge for East. Eads is healthy...... East-21 Eliz-14 Not Healthy..... East-7 Eliz-35 Good luck to both teams because Tennesee High could be the next nightmare for the winner

Come on if anyone watched Volunteer play last year they know that Lindholm was 99 percent of there offense if Frazier and Lindholm couldve gotten along better than you wouldve seen a whole lot different ball team when they interacted. And to say that they will be ahead of Happy Valley not quiet.By losing lindholm you have taken away one of your best rebounder post player/scorer and shot blocker Frazier and Hughes both play the guard position if you are going to rely on 2 guards to carry a team then you have a long ways to go thats for sure.

Obviously "Bballwoman" has not gotten her facts for this years 2004-2005 season. First off Chucky Lindholm has been enrolled at Twin Springs for the past 2 weeks there for will no longer be playing for Volunteer over some altercations that has took place.Anybody in there right frame of minds know that Happy Valley is by far has the best talent in the Watauga Conference besides Volunteer if not Sullivan Central.I am not even a Happy Valley fan and anyone could tell you they got the most talent comming up out of that confernce and by far one of the best coaches they just struggle when it comes down to the playoffs should be a different story this year. 1.Happy Valley-Returning one of the top post players in the conference Alex Carroll and there new up tempo style of offense should already have the "conf" locked. 2.Volunteer-Tough losing Lindholm but still has a good coach in Todd Whittemore. has them prepared every night exspecially on the defensive side of the court. Frazier will be tough to handle but most game he will be seeing some box in 1 defenses. 3.Sullivan Central-Good young team comming back lots of height plays defense well and is tough to win at the (Cougar Den)Coach Vaughn should have those young guys prepared. 4.Unicoi- Very well coached can go deep off there bench should be better permiter and post wise for this season. 5.Hampton-New coach looking to shake things up a bit with the young crop of talent they have back for this year should be interesting to watch but will be hurt when it comes to bringing players off the bench. 6.Johnson County-Young but still has some young players with good varsity experience not to mention big post game. 7-Sullivan North-Good freshman group last year but a junior varsity schedule is a whole lot tougher then a highschool varsity schedule. 8.Elizabethton-Very well coached no talent at all will be lucky to win 3 games in conference play. Seems to me the Watauga Conference should be pretty interesting this year.

Lets just say there Co MVP'S and leave it at that they are both 2 of the best players in Upper East Tennessee nothing big to argue about on here its just a message board with everyones opinion.Wonder what it would be like if o'l Chuck and Russ played on the same team together. (HAHAHAHA)

I know Chambers averaged around 24.0 a game last year to go along with all of his assists not to mention East Tennessee's leading scorer as a junior. He dont have to do all of the scoring this year because his players has gotten better over the summer and with his court awareness he can rely on other players to score.Dont get me wrong Chucky is a very great player and no doubt he is the best player in his conference and so is Chambers but its kind of hard to chose. you gotta figure Chucky has some off nights so does Chambers some nights they will put up 20 something next night it will be 12 or 14 im sure Chucky dominates in scoring when he is playing conference teams as does Chambers i believe so far in conference he has scored 29 against University School 26 against North Greene 21 against Cloudland 35 against University School and 11 against Cloudland. But if Volunteer played a tough Schedule like Unaka we wouldnt be arguing about this now would we (STOKOMO)He has to earn his points night in and night out facing box and ones and other junk defenses as does Chucky but when it comes tournament time who do you think will end up getting there team farther Lindholm or Chambers.

HE IS THE BEST PLAYER IN Carter COUNTY BOTTOM LINE................... who cares what people think on this board rusty everyone knows you are the one of the best players around this area and come tournament time i expect you to shut up every one in roan mountain and even the people bashing you about your style of play from Unaka and on this board 1 player cant carry a team but when it comes to that situation in a game and noone is stepping up you finally just gotta say give me the ball and let me lead the team shots might not have been falling the other night but everyone knows that Rusty Chambers is the leader on that team when ever they are down or they need a basket you can ask coach Ensor who's hands he wants the ball in when the games on the line and you can bet he will say Rusty's. But thats just a little unbiased to get on here no matter if its parents for Unaka,or roan mountain or anywhere just because you arent happy with the way things are going doesnt mean you need to get on here and say something out of the way. Keep Doing What You Are Doing Rusty things will all come into hand come tourney time best of luck.

I'm gonna have to go with Rusty Chambers on this one led East Tennessee in scoring last year as a junior has other great players to feed of him this year not to mention makes every one else around him better with his great floor vision. The reason Chucky seems a little more dominant is because they have a weaker schedule than Unaka but i have been hearing both players see alot of box in 1's. But those would be my top 2 picks if i had to chose both great players and men.

Why dont we just throw him a parade i have saw way to many threads about this kid breaking the school record on here for 1 Volunteer does not play anybody besides the freeport Bahamas tournament and 2 Chucky is a mature kid he will be turning 19 when he is a senior when most kids will be 18 he should be dominating especially against the competiton they play against play a tougher schedule and see what the outcome is. Well Aus I have really only got to see Unaka play one game and that was the Hall of Fame Games when he put 27 or 29 up against Knox Bearden.But when he gets hot he can kill you even though he is 6'1 he can play about any position on the floor But likes to get his teammates involved since there 2 post are 6'6 6'5 each. But this years team is alot better than last years team being there guards and post are a whole lot better. This should be a good game between both teams wish I could make it to see these 2 teams play but unfortunately I half to work good luck.

He's kidding now if we was ranking the worst teams in the state then rainman I would just about say you was right.(nice insult to the people who rank these teams)

I actually got a chance to see Unaka play this summer at the UTC team camp and they have got 10 times the talent on this team then the year they made it to the state in 2001-2002

From what I hear Unaka is supposed to have one of the top teams in East Tennessee this year Returning all starters except for 1 Unaka should dominate just about any team they play and it helps to when you have one of the best coaches in the area.

Just by looking at there schedule on hear and what they have comming back i can see why.Dont count out Adamsville or Forrest they will be tough this year.

I dont really understand how the Arby's Classic works I mean yes you do get the best competiton around you can find because this is one of the top tournaments nationally. But let this stick in your mind if this tournament is supposed to be one of the top tournaments around why would you want teams like sullivan east, daniel boone, gate city and of course tennesee high has to play I mean its there own tournament but teams thats not even worth a flip exspecially to compete with these teams you guys bring in from overseas and out of state. Bottom line is coach burns knew unaka put on a better show then tennesee high did when they was in the arbys classic and if u can sit there and tell me sullivan east and elizabethton highschool is better then unaka this year then you should be directing youth club tournaments then this Arby's Classic tournament. Basically it boils down to going with tradition then going with the good teams that should be in it. Look at what Elizabethton, Sullivan East have comming up this year and then look at what Unaka has and tell me why they couldnt play in your tournament MR DALE BURNS.

Just been hearing alot of talk but is unaka supposed to be as good as everyones saying there gonna be?

We would love to have charles at unaka thats where he wanted to go in the beginning anyways.Charels is a really good player and he should be starting in the outfield with out a doubt.

Chambers will be a senior next year and trust me they will have the best loaded team in the state of 1A basketball next year mark my word.

One player dont make a difference on a team I dont care what anyone says.Elizabethton is way down this year there hitting isnt there and they dont have that strong of an outfield. they are really week behind the plate catcher takes to much time to release the ball on his throws they got spanked by unaka and sullivan east UHS-11 Eliz-0 Sullivan East-19 Eliz-2 Oh yea and cloudland mom yea i would hope you would have beat us that day to since it was a non conference game and we played mostly bench players and pitched pitchers who have never pitched before and still had u down 7 to 0 at the first of the game so basically it was a practice a game for us. P.S would you mind posting how bad we drilled you guys when we played our varsity game against you guys a week ago can you say boring we ended it in 5 innings just like we did against good ol Etown Cloudland is pathetic but of course you guys would brag about winning against half the bench players. cloudland wins a non conference goof off game against unaka and they act like they have just won the (World Series) Thats why they dont play anyone good is because they would get killed. You wouldnt stand a chance against half the teams we play thats why we will win the conference hands down and make it to the state tournament this year. UNAKA CRUSHES THE BALL ASK ELIZABETHTON OR CLOUDLAND ....And thats the truth.....

From watching basketball at Elizabethton this year seems like anyone can play with them they only play when they wanna play.
