  1. I am an alumn from Hume Fogg and come tournament time I came to the boards to find out about how everything has been going. I got on www.tennessean.com and looked at records and stats. I was wondering how hfa has been doing and what the new 9aa is like this year? Who are the power teams? Are there any state tournament prospects? I am out of state at university so i will only be attending the state tournament. I saw that hfa "upset"(not sure i its still an upset anymore) MLK and David Lipscomb. Did anything interesting happen in either of these games? Are there any players in the district as a whole that are hot? Meaning top prospects or college prospects at all. Shout out to the hfa boys and girls teams. Kurt, Sam, Rob, Jameson if i left you out my bad. Anyways, please update me and I am actually looking to discuss it more in depth so if anyone is willing to recap with me, message me in AIM at : Trevdavis221 Thanks. [EDIT]: Oh and if anyone is wondering whatever happened to Alex Renfroe and Ranard Robinson, Ranard is playing at Georgia State, well not playing, but hes on the team as of now. Alex plays at trevecca and i don't think theres anyone in naia that can handle him anymore he will be meeting with some division 1a teams this summer. A bit offtopic but for anyone who has followed or remembers playing against/watching them might be worth the read.
  2. Where is the game at? I go to MTSU and I'm from Nashville and Ive been trying to find out what teams out here in the boro are worth watching, can somoeone give me a small scouting report for each team and where the game is, possibly how to get there and how much it is to get it? Thanks.
  3. MLK won, but i have no stats other than that it was by 24 points. 811 makes its presence known.
  4. btw renfroe hobson robinson mcculley all start for hfa, if they get on (thanks macon co for getting us back together) hfa taking the championship. Magnets will attract and bring mlk and hfa together 3 times in the next couple weeks, friday at mlk and then in district and region.
  5. I just want credit for starting it http://boards.coacht.com/index.php?showtopic=61035&hl= :justwrestle:
  6. 8-aa should just be the region. Every game i've seen SC play they've shot well, I like how the Bates kid shoots over the zone. *hfa mlk dlhs will be joined this year by Greenbrier Station Camp and east lit all contending for the title. oh yeah theres brewer high too. whats going to be crazy is that fist round because if you win you get to go to region no matter what, but if you lose you go home. Normally it'd be the couple teams thateveryone knew was good would get that first win and an underdog would get in there too, but this year theres about 7 teams that should get the first win and 3 of them will go home after one game, thats sad. *wins district
  7. Corey is good, but he only has high ppg cause he is the only scorer. If Tyler Smith and Brewer matched up Smith would hurt the lil guy. Don't get me wrong I know Brewer is and will be a guard and Smith is pure forward but talent wise.. Smith is a AAA Mr. Basketball.
  8. Average teams are allowed to beat better teams but not allowed to lose to below average teams consistently, those wins are called upsets and outside of thier district they can possibly run with the big name teams, but not consistently win.
  9. First and Foremost I am an ex-player and full fan of humefogg so this section is true, but biased and my views of the other teams are based soley on my experience playing the guys in JV and Varsity from years past and watching each hfa game this year, feel free to clear anything up. That said, heres my opinions on the best district in aa this year(not because i always think that but because there is too much talent and too many good teams). I have seen hf play at their highest and lowest for the last 4 years and the one thing that is always consistent is that they are always exciting. It seems they play much better from under the scope. They play much better when the focus is elsewhere, especially on their opponents (Lets say undefeated teams of 02-03 and redemption first games) So someone tells me that hf is not where they should be in the district and not at the top, i say region champs. Then again, im partial. As for the loss at lipscomb, i say meh. They were on a roll, but the roll began too early, thats only setting yourself up for too much limelight and too much pressure, i say you loose and get used to it, suckk it up and win late... just like football(although the patriots make me look somewhat wrong... even though they did win late.... experience is always good too) then feed off the late wins to start your roll on the postseason aka season 2. Hf has unlimited talent... the big man hasnt even broke the surface of his potential and the hf backcourt is serious. I know renfroe and the kid doesnt like to loose - ive taught him to loose in other things so he deosnt have to in high school basketball- and that type of mind set along with a senior attitude striving to end his career on a win is a deadly mixture. The big man is also a senior and he's really came around in his game this year. The scary thing is if he got the ball more he would do much more damage. Hes got confidence and he is beggining to realize that his huge blocks every game that no one really notices are essential to his team. I sure have enjoyed watching him do more S.W.A.T. then a bad collin farrel movie. When everyone starts to get him more involved, renfroe and hob will bask in the glory when thier outside game opens up and all teh sudden those threes that are keeping the game close become the threes that close the game up. but once again hob al ranard are all my boys, but i mean talent in talent. as for the other teams in 8-aa ill give you my opinions. -MLK- coaching can go along way, you never know whos gonna step up for that team but no fail someone does and thats team ball, for an undefeated district team I sure havent heard much about a standout star(my moneys on my boy virgil). -DL- Coaching is also very relevant here, but these guys are disciplined too. Shooters but i dont know if smarts instead of size can take them much further then region (no offence) #21 can shoot the rock, but man shoot more. I saw you stroke 2 in a row at your place and then never shoot again. Big man for dl is smart and fits well in thier motion offence. -Greenbriar- Good defense, but its going to be very hard for them to overcome thier district's talent. too hard. They got some good shooters though, so if they can stay close late watch out. -Portland- Let brewer get his 30+ but DO NOT let soemone else on that team beat you. Focus on his supporting cast and see where it goes from there. Brewer is better down the stretch and under pressure then when hes just out there playing with undersizzed guys. Ive heard knocks on him going to the SEC but this fact is why i think he'll fit well in at florida who not only run, but like finishing guards. -Station Camp(im not sure which division they are in)- They have fire in thier play and they define underdog and upset. Im not knocking them, I'm just saying the lineup plays much better then you would expect. Point guard for sc is great, anyone know if hes going to school anywhere, can shoot and great vision, fun to watch. hes clutch too. -Macon County- #44(Harris i think?) I feel for ya man -East Lit- I just don't like these guys. They have too many personalities for a high school team. If I were them I would make sure mcmillan knew that at the end of the game id rather have the ball in the hands of my big man. They seem to clash, too mnay times in my high school career have I seen east lit players yelling at eachother. Hopefully the young guys on the come-up are in check... alot of young talent though and a deep bench sometimes prevail which make them another dangerous team. -Springfield- A lot of athletes, but inner squad drama is holding them back, they stole one from my boys but that was a fluke. Id like to see them steal one from a couple other district teams and they can do it any night. thats my humble opinion so reply how you will, im anxious to see what comes up.
  10. yeah, I thought the game was called great too. The second quarter was a 15 point swing for hfa, putting them up by 20. I didn't really notice mcpherson and renfroe trying to one up each other but they both played really well. Renfroe and Hobson were making some tough transition passes that really allowed for some great looks at the basket, even from some of the players who aren't used to being that open. Sophmore play off the bench and by starter Brown was terrific.
  11. The game was great. HFA lost two starters as of late and the new squad really gelled in thier second game. The passing was great and the team was actually going inside consistently. Some would say that the 3's DL was hitting kept the game close, but from my point of view they shot themselves out of the game. I like the team dl had out on the floor but when hfa's big man is on his game that pass and drive that dlhs likes to use wasnt present. Instead they were kicking it out and missing many threes. HFA was just consistent, a steady defense mixed with a spurt here and a spurt there. They werent overdoing it on the 3's and they werent set on pounding it inside, and when a team has found its correct balance, its really hard for a team who is down by 20 to fight back. I think the new look team at hfa is very dangerous and with the big man finally coming into his own(put on a show for the coaches of so. illinois 2 dunks, 12 points and 6-7 blocks) and helping hobson and renfroe maybe things will be clearer in the 8aa confusion.
  12. Definetly Alex Renfroe, Brandon Smith, and Corey Brewer
  13. ALEX RENFROE...and TREY HOPSON HUME-FOGG...this is not biased...they have the purest of strokes....Also Johnny LEe from MLK
  14. Great Post Coach. Does anyone know that Jamont should be a Senior this year, and is older than most of the Juniors he is competing with?? I feel sorry for that kid because there is so much hype about how well he is going to do when he cannot even get into a D-1 school. I have seen him play and i have to say that he does seem better than Tyler Smith, and the Delk brothers but the golden rule in life is "work before play." and Jamont has seen it the other way around his whole life.
  15. This game was amazing. Hume-Fogg was strongly favored to win (and they did 69-66) at Upperman. Hume-Fogg had one key factor...A strong Dosage of Renfroe. Scoring 30 points and having a sizzling 5 steals, this senior proved to everyone that HFA could win without Brandon Harriford.
  16. Do not ever forget about Hume-Fogg...they are ferocious and usually underestimated. HFA spanked Antioch in the Jamboree @ Whites Creek and can certainly beat most of the teams on everyone's list.
  17. I was at the PHS/LA game with my team and we watched the game, it was a blow-out and it was thanks to Ferguson I can assure you. No one could touch the kid and im sure his fg % was in the upper 70's, lower 80's. Ive never really seen a more dominant big man in my three years playing in 8-aa. Besides some guys from the 2001 MLK team. ON another note, to the coach who said he'd like to have all of those guys on his team, I play with Brandon Harriford and we came to Tennessee Tech's camp this last past summer, he was doing people in their, that was a prime oppurtunity to see him play, I dont know exactly what his plans are for college, but i know he is worthy of a SG spot on a major d-1 school. He played a lot of PG this year just because of his sheer ability, but when he is SG is when he really stands out, in my opinion.
  18. I seriously DOUBT lipscomb can overcome how hot the panthers are. after a huge win over Hume-Fogg and David Lipscomb in the district tourney, and a total dominance of Livingston Academy(believe me I was there with my team) I think they are so hot that they are gonna find themselves in the state tournament. And this is not a partial view, as I was on a team who beat them twice this year, but Ferguson is the best big man Ive seen the last couple games, and is much better than Stephens. Brewer hasn't really showed me anything but a couple dunks, it seems as if his team doesn't really give him the ball, and #52 off livingston academy dunked on brewer very badly in thier region game. we let him hear it but it was all in good natured fun(although i dont think the portland fans knew that).
  19. I second Alex Renfroe, before the year no one knew about any of the juniors on Hume-Fogg. Now they do...
