  1. What is/are the the determining factors of A, AA, and AAA classification for a Middle School? I've "heard" 1-99 is A, 100-199 is AA, and 200 + is AAA. Is this correct? AND, I've looked at the TMSAA site, but have NOT found whree this is SPECIFICALLY stated... IF anyone has a link PLEASE send... asking for a friend...:)
  2. 2 previous times: 1923 and 1978. Talmad, you are correct, the "Castles" met David Woodard and East Roberson, in the Sub-State.
  3. Monterey started a little slow, but turned it on in second half, for the win. Semi-Final Predictions, anyone?
  4. I'll talk to the source @ the region, and see where he got his info... and let you know b-dog.
  5. Why do you say that, retiredbdog? You have inside sources?
  6. Forgot about that, INTERESTING! Hmmm, would Monday bring his girls over there anyway? Or take 'em to "The Institute"?
  7. Did Coach Hess resign? I've had a couple of others tell me that he has, OR that he hasn't "officially" done so, as of yet. His assistant Mark Sims, will probably take it. Forward to last week's District Tourn: An inside source and I were discussing this topic, and informed me that Shayne Monday , C-range, wasn't too happy with the Lamar "coaching" of his twins, AGAIN, this is heresy. And was interested in bringing his girls to MHS if he could coach... Has anyone heard anything about this?
  8. Well, those Upper Cumberland teams / players seem to be Very well indeed. Keep an eye on Monterey Freshman point guard reserve Logan Jones. He's quick, fast, good ball handler, and has a lot of court sense. He's the All-time leading scorer at Burks Middle, coming off a 5th in State finish, in last year's James C. Haile Tourney. Look for him to continue to improve and mature as a floor leader this year. By his senior year, look for Monterey High School to be heading to the 'Boro. We'll see. 3 years from now, hopefully, we'll see.
  9. Another post (Sparta Warrior) on another topic (the one about the Titans liking playoff brackets, ha ha), said: "White County and Cumberland County are in their own little "group". Whoever wins their game wins the group. It's born out of geographical necessity." which brings to mind a line from oh brother where art thou? Well it'en this a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere! BTW: 1-9, Sorry White County Seniors, but IMHO, sorry you didn't get it done, you guys should NOT be in playoffs. Ronnie Carter, and the T$$AA strikes again. TOTAL IDIOTS. This ain't rocket science, and its not C.M. Newton heading up the NCAA BBall tourney committee to make those bubble teams disappear!!! Total idiots. But, you know why i typed out T-$-$-A-A now huh? (Can ya hear the 3-ring circus music playing behind my post?)
  10. Final Score: RBS 14 MHS 45 Late in the 4th, RBS gets another score on the JV Boys from the mountain, I can't get there until 6:15ish, I have Day 1 of Middle School Basketball Practice, Baby!!!!!
  11. On a lighter note, MHS beat the Bobcats of Pickett County HS last night 50-12. It really could have been worse, but MHS played freshman and sophomores the second half...
  12. I agree Homer. While up in the booth spotting for myself, uttommy, and rsmith, we heard Heady tell his players after the 10th unanswered point, "It's FAR from being over boys keep your heads in the game." So yeah, CCHS just looked to me that they wanted it more...
  13. Strong second half lifts 'Dogs over 'Cats Robert Holder Herald-Citizen Staff Saturday, Sep 05, 2009 [click to enlarge] Clay County’s Shawn Garrett (center) battles for extra yardage while Monterey’s Josh Wilson (3) and James Scott (55) try to bring him down during the Bulldogs’ 13-10 win over the Wildcats on Friday at Medley Field in Monterey. (Herald-Citizen Photo/Robert Holder) MONTEREY -- The Monterey Wildcats had been playing lights out to begin the season. After a 2-0 start and a Caleb Miller 11-yard touchdown on the fourth play of the game, it seemed like that was going to continue. Then the Clay County Bulldogs came calling and turned the lights out on MHS 13-10 at Medley Field. Monterey faced more than the team across from them all night as players fell because of injury and sickness. Leading rushers Miller and Boomer Smith came in as questionable and tired to go with an ankle injury and a concussion, respectively. Both played sparingly. Wide receiver Bryson Welch was limited by a leg injury. "It was the perfect storm," Monterey coach Billy Heady. "They had two weeks to prepare for us, we came off a tough game with Upperman and had some injuries, and let's face it, Caleb wasn't 100 percent tonight. ... In the end it just got to be a patchwork quilt so to speak. I was just felt like I was on the sideline reaching for straws trying to get kids to go in. "It seemed like everyday this week was a 'what-if situation.' We weren't for sure if Boomer was going to get in, we weren't sure if Caleb was going to be ready and then the next day we put someone else in at wingback and tailback and they are out with the flu. It was just a bad week in practice. We couldn't get any rhythm going." After having some near penalty-free games, the Wildcats committed 10 penalties for 59 yards to compound the frustration. The Bulldogs put 13 points on the scoreboard in the second half behind a powerful 363 yards of rushing. Clay County wide receiver/running back/defensive back Shawn Garrett led the team with 197 yards on 11 carries, including romps of 57, 63 and 26 yards, and scored the first touchdown in the third quarter. "The offensive line stepped up tonight," Clay County coach David Maxfield said. "We've been working on (putting Garrett in the backfield). You want to make sure that you get the ball in the hands of one of your best players. All the boys did a good job." Coach Heady agreed, "The first touchdown that Garrett scored, when he busted that big long one (63 yards), we hadn't seen that on film. You got to stop him. All of sudden they moved him to where we hadn't seem him in that single wing formation and it caught our kids off guard." "I feel like I coached as hard this week as I have ever coached in my whole entire life and things just didn't work out tonight." CCHS fullback Nick Stephens pushed the ball across in the fourth for the final score from four yards out with 11:54 to go. After a stop in play because of a light failure, The Wildcats tried to respond after quarterback/cornerback Josh Wilson picked off his second CCHS pass of the night. Tyler Thornton lined up in the backfield as quarterback and moved the ball well in the 'Wildcat' formation, but the drive stalled on the Clay County 44-yard line. Thorton led the Wildcats in rushing with 69 yards on 12 carries. Smith had 10 carries for 53 yards. "We just got to get better," Wilson said. "Regardless of what I did or what anybody did. When it came down to making one play, they did better than we did. "We aren't going to give up on anything. One loss is not the end of the season." So your saying that Coach Heady made excuses, instead of... I'm not ascertaining the thought process behind your ^^^ post. Just spell it out for us please. I'm not trying to or ever will start an argument on these boards, but I'm just not following you here. It's unclear to me...
  14. Alrighty, then. Seeing that Friday Night Lights will be here soon, how are the Monterey Wildcats going to fair? Last year was, well let's face it, sad! With realignment, and everything, will it be better? Will Josh Wilson, do a better job @ QB, than last year's? Will the Wing - T (finally), be an offense that "takes off", or will they have to go to a more traditional outlook? Ok all you Cat-o'-the-mountain fans fess up here and let your thoughts be known....
  15. Considering, that in previous years, they have been the proverbial, one and done(itis) team, then yeah its a good season. Let's look at it this way, or at least I will: One has to have that Turning Point year when the previous years were, let's face it, BAD! One can say it was players, one can say it was the admin, one could say it was the coach, all I know is, they play as a team now, they understand what it takes to win and they actually play, "D." This group can and will be proud of themselves, for being the team that "turned it around." I'm proud of them, Monterey is proud of them, doesn't matter what others think, at all. MHS Wildcats: just keep on keeping on, God loves you, and when all is said and done, that's ALL that matters.
  16. o k. Umm, are you saying that you ALREADY know what the seeding parings will be since the DISTRICT tournaments are not EVEN over?
  17. As MrSoftball said.... I STAND CORRECTED, sorry... Either way its a GREAT season for the 'Cats..!!!!
  18. Well, well, well, now look who's made it to the semifinals of the 2009 Boys District 7A tournament. The Monterey Wildcats! (What, did you just say MHS has won a tourney game? Why yes, little Johnny, they did.) And boy did they ever. The 6th seed Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs 5-12 (2-7) traveled to (Hit it! This ain't no disco It ain't no country club either This is LA!) the Livingston Academy gym last night to take on the 4th seed Monterey Wildcats 9-17 (3-6), in the quarter finals of the District 7A Basketball Tournament. The Wildcats took control early and never looked back. Final score 24-42! The seniors were very good last night so congrats to them. End of the year for the bulldogs. Now for the seniors its on to face Clay County High School 22-6 (9-1). In their last meeting the Wildcats were defeated 39-54 on Jan. 27, 2009. I look for at least a better game this time. Its hard to beat a team three times in a season. Either way it goes, this bunch will go to the region tournament, which MHS Boys haven't been there in OVER 10 years. They'll face some tough District 8A team, but I think they'll have the ability to beat any or all of that district's group, it just depends on the seeding process. If Monterey loses to CCHS, they'll play for 3rd place against the loser of the Jackson Co. and Clarkrange game. If they could win that one then that puts them up against the District 8A's runner-up. However it goes its been a season to remember for this group of seniors, the losing is over, finally, on the mountain, and it's time for MHS to again rise up and start its winning tradition it began in the 1987-1988 and onward....!!!
  19. Well they DID win it, So 4th place is Ours TO the Victor GO the Spoils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  20. I agree with you senator!!! VERY well played game by the 'Cats!!! The Seniors looked VERY good, Castle shot the ball well, Buckner didn't play that well, the others (Meredith/Howard/Bohannon) played ok, but not up to their potential. However, seeing that the Districts and the Region are right around the corner, they are peaking at the right time, now, and given the correct seeding situation(s), they have an outside chance of going further!!! Long live the Seniors season!!!
  21. The wildcats may suit up panther14,bigmamma and anyone else that can contribute to pull this one out. Oh good grief, I haven't been "on the court" in probably say well........... anyway. Seriously, I believe that given the 'Cats do not get rattled and feed the ball to Micheal Buckner, and then chuck it outside when they start falling back inside, this bunch COULD win. But 1st things 1st: Tonight the Red Boiling Springs bunch drives up the Mountain, to Troy Foust Memorial Gym, in a twin-bill, OMG, I sound like a sportcaster, in this, the former Panthers and NOW Wildcats will absolutely win, how much, mmmm I'd say by double figures. What say ye, Bigmamma and senator??? Check out the Middle School Boys basketball Board/post/thread to see how good the Burks Middle Boys finished this season..... GO 'Cats!!
  22. Maybe if that doesn't work, we'll just bring Hoover to the high school level!!!!! You never know, BUT, let's glve Batman at least a few years. Hoover for President (after Obama) /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Well just a little update on one of those 8th graders: Logan Jones was named to the James C. Haile ALL-State Tournament team!! the FIRST EVER Burks Middle School Panther to win a post-season award!!! Congrats to Logan!!!
  23. Well I have to give a shout out to these boys on the mountain. This group of 8th graders have been playing together since Jr. Pro Training League in Monterey, and it has really paid off. Their record of 15-3 is the BEST in their school's history. They went to the James C. Haile and finished overall 5th place in the state. Now that's really saying something for Monterey Basketball. 4 years ago this bunch began their Jr. Varsity play as 5th graders under Coach Hoover. I've watched them grow physically and talent/skill wise as well. Starters of Mochow, Bohannon, Floyd, Blaylock, and Jones, were a sight to see this year, they got after it each night and played into Hoover's swarming run-n-jump defense. Their point guard, Logan Jones became the ALL-time scoring leader earlier this year, too. The also, won their hosted "Shootout" this year and took 1st place before Christmas. Next year, God willing, and they get a couple of others boys from Wilson Elementary, one transferred there just before season started, and another potential player came back after Christmas who did not get to join the team but has a lot of potential and scored A LOT in 2007, MHS will really have a GREAT group of Freshman to fill the void of their seniors that are taking the high road. Coach West is grinning from ear to ear on this bunch, his needs are really being met in this class. They are young men and are proven winners in the court and off, SO REACH for the STARS boys, the sky is the limit. And hopefully we'll see you guys going back to the 'Boro, except this time on the floor of Murphy Center!!!!!! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> : ) /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
