  1. Thus far in scrimmages, Cory is averaging about 13 or 14 boards a game. His rebound average was down last year because of Ferguson and Black the other two 6'7" kids Portland had. Brewer averaged 7.5 Ferguson averaged close to 9 and black around 6.
  2. Wicke is going to Belmont, I believe.
  3. muffin go to the link posted above and read for yourself. I guess you didn't watch any of Portland's games in the postseason last year. Brewer guarded the opponents best player every night and shut the majority of them down.
  4. Smokin75 I'll guarantee you that if Brewer doesn't start as a freshman he will play significant minutes. Not many Mcdonald's All-Americans sit the bench their freshman years and most see the court at some time in their carreers. http://collegebasketballnews.theinsiders.c...m/2/182323.html
  5. I think Tyler is a phenomenal talent and has unbelievable athletic ability. But I think he has a lot of work to do on his all around game. He is really going to have to improve his perimeter skills, because unless he grows three or four inches he will play the perimeter at the next level. From the things that I have read and listening to others talk I think he will put in the time and the work to become a complete player. Everyone knows that Corey was a very raw talent going into his junior year and he worked his tail off to improve his weaknesses and I believe Tyler will do the same. He has the potential to be great. The main thing Tyler has going for him over Corey is a much stronger supporting cast Corey could have a very tough year if his teammates don't step and take up some of the slack.
  6. I guess you didn't see the game earlier against Upperman where he hit about six three's and dominated on the defensive end and had around 15 rebounds. Oh, by the way for all of you that say Corey plays lazy defense talk to all of the recruiting experts who said " Corey Brewer is hands down the best defensive player in the nation. He is the Deion Sanders of high school basketball." Someone else that knows a little bit about basketball, thinks he's a pretty good defender, i believe his name is Billy Donovan. http://theinsidershoops.theinsiders.com/2/168145.html
  7. Memphis YOMCA 17U are NATIONAL CHAMPS! CONGRATS!
  8. How did the EAST-WEST ALL-STAR GAME come out last night? Who played well? What were some of the highlights?
  9. Corey maxed out at 275 before the season started. He had gained some weight but lost a lot with a bout of the flu this year.
  10. Are the new rankings still coming out today?
  11. Portland was down about 6 with about 3 minutes to go before coming back to take a 1 point lead with about a minute to go. Portland ran the clock done to about 40 seconds before York fouled #24 Adam Black. Black missed the front end of the one and one. York then came down and #3 Stephens hit a 3 with about 20 seconds left. Brewer pushed the ball back down court and hit a pull up jumper in the paint to tie it at 52 all with 12 seconds left. After a t.o. Tate drove baseline and shot the ball long over the rim Adam Black rebounded and was fouled with 1.7 seconds left. He hit the first and missed the second. York rebounded and called t.o with 1.2 left. Their fullcourt inbounds pass was stolen by Portland to end this thrilling and hardfought game. Brewer ended up with 27 Ferguson 14 for Portland. Tate had 21 for York. All Region Team: Ferguson-Portland Smith-Portland Tate-York Leffew-York Ledbetter_York Stephen-Lipscomb Mathis-Upperman Asberry-Upperman Brewer-Portland MVP [Edited by oldschool74 on 3-7-03 11:46P]
  12. Can anyone give any info. on McMinn Central? Strengths, weaknesses, personel. [Edited by oldschool74 on 3-7-03 10:46P]
  13. I have read a lot of negative comments on her about Corey. I believe that most of them have come from Lipscomb supporters and players. In my opinion they are completely unfounded and just simply not true. He is definitely not a selfish player that some of you make him out to be. Anybody who has watched Portland enough and has any basketball IQ would see that Corey does everything he can to bet John the ball. Just look at his turnovers in the Lipscomb game the other night most of them came trying to get John the ball. to the person that said Corey has no class You are an absolute moron. You know nothing about this kid but you pass judgement. Corey is a very classy and great funloving kid to be around. With all of the attention and recognition Corey has recieved this year he has virtually no ego and cares only about winning. Oh BTW, there wasn't anyone happier for John when he won the district MVP. So those of you that want to judge and criticize may want to examine your reasoning behind it. Is it to just state your opinion I doubt I sense a hint of jealously. Just my opinion.
  14. I don't know here a rumor that John did not want to play college ball came from. That is absurd and ridiculous! John most definitely wants wants to play college basketball. All of the smaller DI schools such as the Belmont's and Lipscomb's are missing out on one of the top post players in the state. And yes he is a legit 6'7" with an even longer wingspan.
  15. That can't happen. Lipscomb and Portland are in the same bracket and will meet in second round if both win.
  16. I believe the final was something like 65 -50 Hume Fogg.
  17. Any word on when Stephen will be back?
  18. Anyone got scores from Springfield vs. Lipscomb or MLK vs. Hume Fogg? [Edited by oldschool74 on 2-21-03 10:43P]
  19. Can anyone tell me more about Josh Stephen's( from Lipscomb) injury? How serious is it and when he's supposed to be back?
  20. This one might sound crazy but, someone tell me if there is any truth to this rumor, "Pete Froeden of Harding Academy is pursuing a move to Ezell Harding."
  21. In KY you can lose in the district tournament and advance. Top two out of the district advance.
  22. John is averaging about 19 pts and 9 rebounds for Portland. [Edited by oldschool74 on 2-6-03 4:10P]
  23. Ray Stanton from Springfield has to be one of the best leapers in the state. He's about 6'1 or 2 and had a follow up dunk against Portland where his head was even with the rim.
  24. Is there anyone who can give me some info on this game?
