  1. I think it is important for people to remember that Smyrna only got one full scrimmage in the pre-season along with just 20 plays vs. Franklin. They also were not used to playing week "0". I think a lot of people forget about this when they say they "weren't impressed with Smyrna" vs. Lavergne. I think and hope the second half of the Lavergne game will be representative of what Smyrna has to offer. Hendersonville is always tough and this should be a great game. I'm going to go with Smyrna 28-10........
  2. Jimmy Williams who is a past coach and is currently AD at Shelbyville HS. He has two sons coaching. Matt is the O-Line coach at Smyrna HS and Mark is the O-Line coach at Gallatin HS.
  3. IF they had a better line? SHS has the Johnson kid that has rushed for over 1,000 yds, and David Shannon has rushed for about 700. Not to mention the SHS line has protected Wolke very well this season........
  4. This is one of my favorites from Charley Pell, this is a loose quote: " I want my players to be as enthusiastic as an 85 year old man, who marries a 25 year old girl, who buys a five bedroom house next to an elementary school!
  5. SMYRNA 8-29 Hendersonville A 9-5 Riverdale* A 9-12 Gallatin H 9-19 Blackman* A 9-26 Brentwood H 10-3 Wilson Central* H 10-10 Lavergne* A 10-17 Siegel* A 10-24 Lebanon* H 10-31 Oakland* H
  6. I would give my vote to Smyrna. They play in region 4-5a which is one of the toughest in the state and their non-region games are Gallatin, Hendersonville, and Brentwood in 2003.
  7. David Wolke from Smyrna was one of the best Jr. QB's in the state.
  8. Luke Powell from Smyrna High School ('98) was one of the fastest around. He is currently a WR at Stanford. I would also agree w/ Sean Waller.
  9. Luke Powell from Smyrna High School (graduated in '98) was one of the fastest players around. He is currently a WR at Stanford, and was an All American last year as a punt returner. I would also agree w/ Sean Waller from Hunters Lane.
  10. Hunters Lane had a #28 that was one of the best corners I saw this year, I can't recall his name, but he could fly. He would let our receivers get a couple of steps on him and when the ball was thrown he would accelerate to either break it up or intercept it.

    Hardest Hitters!

Smyrna High School's MLB James Jansen is a big hitter, plus he broke the small bone in his lower leg and only missed 2 weeks. He's a tough kid...............
  12. Hey throw46! If you are who I think you are, good to hear from you and I hope everything is going well for you. Did you know that my brother is at Gallatin with Walls now (O-line)? Good lucl buddy!!!!!!!!
  13. I would have to give a vote for Bobby Wells at Smyrna High School. He does a great job with the talent he has and gets a lot out of the kids. Smyrna runs a base 4-4 but Wells mixes in a Bear(4-6) look that gives a lot of teams trouble. Does a great job preparing his players and has been known to shut down some of the best running backs around.
  14. In my opinion region 4 in 5A is the toughest in the state with Riverdale, Smyrna, Oakland, Blackman, Lavergne, Lebanon, and Mt. Juliet. This region will lose Mt. Juliet next year and add the new Siegel high school in Murfreesboro and Wilson Central. I doubt Wilson Central is looking forward to the move. With six high schools coming from the same county playing each next year it will be very interesting.

    week o games

Week 0 games allow teams to have a bye week. Having a game during week 0 can be good because it gives you an off week later in the season to heal up. The only negative is that you have one less week to prepare.
