  1. As with most of these types of fan based polls, there is a bias towards more recent players, no doubt. For what it's worth, I did vote for Billy May...the best receiver ever in DII IMHO. Hadouken, you certainly could make a valid argument either way on both Tyree Ford and Tyler Griffin making the list, and I guess you could also argue about Joe Birdsong, but other every other BA and MBA player on the list is a pretty righteous choice.
  2. Oher never played in the DII AA (old AAA) division, nor did Ryan Karl. Oher definitely would have made the team, but I'm not so sure about Karl. Remember, this is about their play in high school, not what they did later. I guess Golden Tate just didn't get the votes, although there are certainly many running backs that could conceivably be rated equal to or ahead of the two chosen. Having seen both Ingle Martin and BJ Coleman play, though both were great high school football players, I think the voters got that one right.
  3. If you are a student, or a parent of a student, you should do some additional research before the college application process begins. Lumping in all those "party schools" together is not representative of the relative quality of the institutions, nor is it representative of the admissions standards. In the latest US News & World Report rankings of National Universities, Wisconsin was #35, Florida #49, Alabama #83, and Tennessee #105. Not that rankings are everything, but if your assumption is that a student can screw around in high school and still get into a Wisconsin or a Florida, that would be a big mistake. Unless you are a Division 1 recruited athlete, it takes a 3.8 GPA or better, as well as very good (I'm talking 30+ ACT, or 1950+ SAT) test scores to get in to those schools. When they get there, I'm certain there will be good parties as well! Brentwood High is an excellent school, BTW, and they certainly have their share or more of graduates going to the top universities.
  4. Yeah...I understand the situations are different. Just the story about not having a family around reminded me a little of the Oher deal. My real point is that there are times when being "recruited" to a school, or taken care of in a manner that may not be 100% according to TSSAA rules may be in the best interest of the kid. It's just something interesting to think about. Not everything is always black and white. I too wish the young man well.
  5. This whole story reminds me somewhat of Michael Oher, who played for Briarcrest and is now at Ole Miss, and a 1st team pre season All-America. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/24/magazine...?pagewanted=all Makes you really stop and think about the whole issue in a different light.
  6. Now that's a good one!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  7. No...unfortunately BA hasn't had one of those type guys since Alex Bullard was in 8th grade. Wish there were more. Course he was only 14, playing like he was 20.
  8. If BA has developed any kind of consistent passing game, I agree they will be very tough to beat. I would only differ from your assumption of a big upgrade at the DC spot. Mickey Jacobs, who had been running the defense for the Eagles, was no slouch himself. 5 years as the Vanderbilt DL/LB coach (when they were actually pretty good!) is not bad experience for a high school coach. He will be miissed.
  9. Such payment would be 100% illegal under TSSAA rules. Also, financial aid provided by the school is not limited to 50%. Just a suggestion...grab yourself a cold beverage and do some searches on the Public/Private board. You'll learn a lot, as all of this information has been gone over many times.

  11. Well, a couple of years ago, I privately accused one of your MBA brothers of being Don Quixote, so you two make quite the pair! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  12. Your comments reveal that you are simply ignorant about the way the financial aid system works. The apparent fact is that you are either too lazy or too blinded to do the research. I gave up trying to educate people on CoachT some time ago, and do not intend to restart now. My amplification of KWoodruff's points speak for themselves. Try adding to a conversation rather than making a fool of yourself.
  13. Lordy...Lordy...Lordy!! Here we go again! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  14. Your rationale is spot on. Ensworth will face the same challenges that BA does if they continue to play up, which undoubtedly they will. I think that's a great point that not very many people take into account. While BA has some very good players, they will never have the depth of a MBA, Ryan, McCallie or CBHS. Just because you see 100 guys standing on the sidelines at a home game does not mean that very many of them will see meaningful action. Most years, BA will play 30-35 on a rotating basis while a game is in doubt. If any of those is sick or injured, the drop off is pretty obvious. Ensworth may end up in about the same boat. Nothing wrong with that, but just a numerical fact.
  15. To be fair and accurate, I don't think your characterization of the TSSAA being the sole entity that "drug it on". Each party appealed at various times...not just TSSAA. http://www.brentwoodacademy.com/uploaded/p...uittimeline.pdf I couldn't agree more about the initial petty-to-the-point-of-non-existent nature of the initial "violation", and the TSSAA's harsh and unjust penalty decision.
  16. I don't blame you. I think pretty much everyone is sick of this thing at this point.
  17. Don't worry coach, now you're just like 99% of everyone else who posts on the pubic/private board! Only diference is, you admit it.
  18. You give Ronnie Carter way too much credit/blame in this. My impression is that he was by no means the driving force behind the initial issue. He probably could not have kept his job had he not done the bidding of the BOC members who wanted to "punish" Carlton Flatt. RC does not have evil intent...he's simply a bureaucrat.
  19. I doubt that anyone believes this is posted by a real MBA student. I certainly don't.
  20. Who's this new QB transfer? That hasn't gotten much play here.
  21. TSSAA's handling of DII has never been about fairness or justice. They wish the DII teams would simply dry up and blow away (after leaving their dues and playoff game recepts, of course). Having lived through 10 years of it, I guess I'm just over it. Nothing will change. It's a given, and life moves on.
  22. Some people understand and some don't. I'm actually quite satisfied with how things have worked out at this point. The best DI teams in Middle Tennessee are no longer embargoing the DII teams, and it makes for some great local matchups. In addition the DII teams can still schedule some really interesting regional games that not only provide great visibility for TN football, but great challenge for the teams involved. Best of both worlds! I don't think scheduling the Blount County champion would add much at this point.
  23. I don't think it matters very much whether a televised high school game has 15,000 people watching or 25,000 people watching. The ratings are miniscule in the grand scheme of television. The commercials shown are not (with only a tiny possible exception) specifically bought for these games, they are part of a whole demographic and TRP package for cable that advertisers buy. Just about any college game (even a repeat) or a Seinfeld rerun gets massively more viewers than these games. They are not a significant money-maker for anyone except TSSAA. Comcast televises the games primarily as a public service, and makes minimal, if any, money off the deal. I'm not sure what the package is that TSSAA negotiates with Comcast, but it certainly would not be enhanced by requiring that Comcast televise games on two completely different weekends. As with most decisions made by TSSAA, it comes down to dollars and cents, and if they got paid more to televise the DII games, they would do so in a heartbeat. They certainly would not make any financial sacrifice, however small, to include the DII games in the deal.
  24. Another article about this from the Jackson Sun: http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...NEWS01/80701042 If you can believe this article, the Dad is interviewing at a couple of different schools, and keeping their options open. One of those options is not to transfer at all. This will be interesting to watch. I'm sure the coaches at the schools they are looking at are cringing. The Dad seems to be oblivious to how bad this looks, and a cynic might even believe that he brought this to the newsapapers in order to create more of an open market. I think it's pretty unlikely that anything will happen TSSAA-wise. First off, it's softball, so it's not quite as intense as if something along these lines happened with football players. Second, I think someone has to file a formal complaint for TSSAA to investigate. Who would be likely to do that?
  25. I know. Sometimes I just can't help myself. It's a character flaw of mine.
