How to recruit.
First, you have to know basketball.
Second, you have to have friends in the community.
Third, you have to network. Get as many assistants (flunkies) as possible. Convince them you are a diety. Make sure they fit two needs. They must either be old enough to get in with the students parents or young enough to relate to the students. It doesn't hurt to find some guys already coaching middle school. This is a great way to monitor young tallent. This is important. Treat them like kites. If they get caught recruiting, cut the string and deny everything. I mean really, there will always be someone to take their place.
Fourth, get the best student athletes. There's no substitute for brains.
Fifth, recruit in cycles. Get a great group of freshmen every four years. This way they can play two schedules the first year (freshman and varsity). Also this will keep the area coaches from really crying foul because they will not lose their best players every year.
Sixth, sprinkle in random other classes to keep some continuity in your program.
Finally, if anything comes back to you, scream long and loud about how you are being treated unfairly, just because.
There you have it. Good luck and see you at the state.
