  1. Only 8 assistant coaches with doc today. Three of them were middle school coaches in metro (Bass, Hill & McKissack), four if you count the MLK middle school coach. But no recruiting. King could have used a timeout late in the game and maybe prevented a couple of those costly turnovers. Nah, that would have ruined the first quarter antics. Those of you that might remember Henry Harris from Stratford probably didn't know that he went to MLK for a day. He didn't really like it over there and left. Henry did not make the scores to get in MLK in the eigth grade. Most people just go on to their zone school or a private school. Somehow, Henry was informed that he could take the test again with a private testing agency, and he then qualified. There are lots of kids every year in metro that want to go to MLK and Hume Fogg but they do not qualify. They have no idea that they can retake the test. Metro does not publicise this. If they want to get better info, they should develop a jump shot. Pressing in the fourth with their starters in and up by 40+. Ask East, Macon and Portland.
  2. Cobrafan90, I agree with one thing from your post. It may have been only implied. The best coached team won the game. There should be no doubt about that. He is a self-centered egotistical little man, but he is the best coach. On the other side, you are wrong about MLK and who they get to come to their school. They get the smartest kids from the entire county. Shelton has all of his followers going out across the county finding the best student athletes. I know he has at least two middle school coaches recruiting kids for him. This is a big year for them. Mark this down. I have know idea who they will have as freshman for next year but they will be in the city tournament, and those same kids will be playing a lot of varsity minutes.
  3. How to recruit. First, you have to know basketball. Second, you have to have friends in the community. Third, you have to network. Get as many assistants (flunkies) as possible. Convince them you are a diety. Make sure they fit two needs. They must either be old enough to get in with the students parents or young enough to relate to the students. It doesn't hurt to find some guys already coaching middle school. This is a great way to monitor young tallent. This is important. Treat them like kites. If they get caught recruiting, cut the string and deny everything. I mean really, there will always be someone to take their place. Fourth, get the best student athletes. There's no substitute for brains. Fifth, recruit in cycles. Get a great group of freshmen every four years. This way they can play two schedules the first year (freshman and varsity). Also this will keep the area coaches from really crying foul because they will not lose their best players every year. Sixth, sprinkle in random other classes to keep some continuity in your program. Finally, if anything comes back to you, scream long and loud about how you are being treated unfairly, just because. There you have it. Good luck and see you at the state.
  4. I recently saw where the Menzie twins played for Glencliff in a game. I heard that they had transferred from Whites Creek. They have not been eligible since their freshman year. They should be seniors this year but I can't imagine that with their classroom history. Does anyone know how they became eligible?
  5. I have heard they have good tallent but I have also heard the coach has a real attitude problem. What is the story on the guy?
  6. I'll take Harris. He is a team player and he is not a liability academically or behaviorly.
  7. Does anyone have any information on the new districts that would come through the public private split? I know there are two formats that are being looked at. One would go by specific school numbers and the other would use multipliers. The one using multipliers would create some wide spread districts.
  8. It's interesting to see the three schools named are all church of christ. If it turned out a to be just names you have heard of then I would suggest looking into Christ Presbyterian Academy. If those are the type of schools you are specifically looking into then I would probably choose the one with the most class, Lipscomb.
  9. What will this district look like from top to bottom next year?
  10. What will 7AA be like next year from top to bottom?
  11. FrankL all good selections. Gary Smith is probably the most underated in the group. Bontrager is the coach from Father Ryan. Another underated coach that would go in that group is Belliford from USN. But what about the public school guys? Here's my list. Metro: Winston Gamble-Maplewood, Jim Nollner-Whites Creek, Troy Allen-Hillsboro, James Shelton-MLK, Kelly Harned-Hume-Fogg. Midstate: Dennis King-Brentwood, Randy King-Oakland, Kevin Woodson-Blackman, Doug Kiel-Warren Co., Randal Hutto-Lebanon and Bobby Luna-Gallatin.
  12. Great job BA on winning the state this year after a sluggish start. But some people on here have asked some interesting questions. You did the work on the floor and thats where it counts. But it looks like someone would silence all these accusations if they were not in some way true.
  13. I thought their might have been a conflict with the varsity game but the varsity played tuesday against York.
  14. I was there. Officiating was not just bad, it was just one sided. The better team one that night. Had the Wood not been in foul trouble the outcome may well have been different. No fouls were committed while 24 was jacking the ball up from deep with a man in his face. Maybe these games should be played at a neutral site in the future.

    Metro Football

I have heard that McGavock will hire Dorris Armstrong after he finishes anger management classes on school time. I have to question the reasoning associated with this decision, if it is true. From what I understand he would only be there for about three years. I have heard Scott Smith did a good job interviewing and has a pretty good resume. I guess he just doesn't fit the "needs" of the school. I think Broome will get the Stratford job. If that happens, I wish him luck. He will have some young tallent coming. I don't know about assistant coaches though.

    Metro Jobs?

Nice name, does that make you the big dog? Anyway, if you go back to my first post on board seven I said experience didn't really matter in Metro. Meaning they might as well give you the job just like they give all the others away. Your really not a bad coach. You just do some really dumb things. Now run along and body slam that.
  17. Selections may be tough but candidates should only be taken from the 11 Metro Nashville schools in 11AAA and 12AAA. No AA schools and no Private Schools!
  18. Brandon Harriford Corey Brewer John Ferguson Johnny Lee I'm only going with four. There are too many good players right there together.

    Metro Jobs?

Why not Bodenhamer? Metro has already indicated experience is not a factor. Sewell two years experience wit the girls at HL gets the boys job. Reed three years experience as the Stratford assistant gets the Overton boys job. The "NEW" metro buddy system is up and running. I heard Dorris Armstrong as much as said he didn't have to worry about interviewing for McGavock, it was his time! Stunk it up in the interview. Then Scott Smith came in and wowed the committee. Might make Trabue toss and turn. What happens if all three jobs are filled with WHITE GUYS? Oh, I know why Bodenhamer wouldn't go to Stratford. He got a letter down at the board about recruiting Stratford football players after a 9th grade game. I think one of the kids name was James Winrow Jr . Are you kidding me?
  20. I don't think any young person should be eligible to be drafted for a professional sport until they turn 21 years of age. They are not mature enough to handle a lot of adult situations that they would be placed in. The media attention is ruining the attitudes of high school athletes towards "TEAM" sports.
  21. I think a lot of schools would struggle to find qualified operators. Many schools struggle to find someone dependable to operate the regular game clock.
  22. Open jobs in Metro are all illusions. They say that the state requires these jobs to be posted for everyone, which is true. However, the final decision lies with the executive Principal. If the principal knows who they want, they just waste everyone elses time with interviews. There used to be a saying that if you give up a head job in Metro you would not get another. Examples would be Bubba Spears and Buddy Brown. I don't think Abner will fall into that group since the Glencliff job is his! Jobs in Metro are promised out all the time, Ralph Thompson to name one. You can also add Dorris Armstrong to the promised job list. I think Rigamortis set in five years ago. Maybe he earned his opportunity with a bat!
  23. Coach Anderson does a great job and you better believe he will be all over West Nashville and surrounding counties beating the bushes for players.
  24. I thought college Heights had done a better job of recruiting than that. I guess they better get a few more restricted earnings coaches on the ball.
  25. I have heard from a reliable source that Pope John Paul has already been turned in to he TSSAA for an ineligible wrestler. Does anyone know anything about that?
