  1. Maryville should be 5-A, and I am told they will be by 2008. Any thoughts on this?
  2. That could be, but Coach Helton (who I talked to yesterday afternoon) has not met with anyone that counts, and is not going anywhere. Mark that down.
  3. First of all, 1) There has been NOOOOOOOOOO meeting, and Helton is not going anywhere. 2) Second of all CHS OL 68, you need more to do over your spring break (like learning the weight room is located on Marion Street, and was open 3 days last week). 3) Thirdly, you would have had to have been present for point # 2 in order to state factual information or at least know what you are talking about.
  4. The News-Sentinel is too busy scrutinizing the latest breath by Phillip Fulmer. I think they would do well to check out the amount of coverage that HS basketball gets in the Tennessean. However, reality is that they DO NOT CARE because they are the only paper in town! My coach sent in (EXTREMELY EARLY I might add) his annual information they ask for. However, they sent out an 8-10 page questionnaire, all for a 45-50 word blurb on each team. He did not send it back, and was omitted. I sure miss Mark Burgess!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. A couple of observations from today's awards: 1) Gulmire should have won. However he is not committed to a D-1 school like Miller. (Why this matters, I do not know, but apparently it does.) 2) Miller is a great back who will do well in college, as will Gulmire though maybe not at an SEC school. If I'm Tennessee, I offer Gulmire a scholarship because he has DESIRE. Something they have been lacking IMO. 3) Plaques had to be engraved before Thanksgiving, so go with history and say that Riverdale will beat OR. This equates to Miller getting the nod, and hey....he did outgain Gulmire in the game. 4) East Tennessee gets "munsoned" every year by the small town middle and west Tenn. sportswriters.I'm beginning to believe that PrepXtra is more concerned in featuring their own ET MVPs and are not so concerned with statewide awards. DON'T GET ME WRONG THEY DO A GREAT JOB AT THE KNS, BUT I THINK THEY COULD DO MORE TO CONVINCE MEDIA MEMBERS AROUND THEM IN THE VOTING. (Just my opinion) 5) OR and Gulmire bring home the trophy for 5A and that is worth way more than any individual award.
  6. I found the music selections during Timeouts very INTERESTING, as well as fun. What do others out there who attended the tournament think? Finally, .....a place that doesn't appear to play profane music.
  7. I say Helton gets it over the kid from Melrose. What do you think? Also, Knoxville News-Sentinel top 25 recruits was puzzling to say the least. Over half of the top 25 is uncommitted, ......or could it be that they are not getting offers?
  8. You have to remember it is local news coverage. My guess is that they simply intended to run that clip while previewing the game, and intended to run another video clip during the steroids segment.(Why in God's name don't they leave these stories to the national media???) WOULD NOT be the first time they (or any other Knoxville station) ever ran the wrong video. IT happens.
  9. This was one of the worst if not the worst officiated games I have seen in 25 years. CHS had two receivers held ONLY to have Offensive interference whistled. Please officials.....let the kids decide the outcome. Don't try to help underdogs hang in.
  10. No doubt Brett Stanton can play. I am hearing that he will be a D-1 signee, but I haven't seen him play this season. Murphy Fair is definitely high on him, and that is someone who "sees all" statewide in HS football. What are some thoughts from you Hornet fans who have seen him?
  11. Carter has what amounts to be a two game schedule: Seymour & Fulton I think they will beat PF, but I'm not sure how they will fare against either of the two mentioned previously. It seems like Carter has a good team, but playing in the JKidz region is not a good way to measure how good you really are.
  12. The band wanted to come and perform but was told that they would have to pay to get in just like anyone else....EVEN TO DO THEIR ROUTINE AT HALFTIME. I agree that they should have to pay if they just show up and are not performing, however, they would have had to "Pay to play" in the City/County Classic....and Central's band WOULD HAVE been there except for the admission charge.
  13. WHO CARES!!!! Both teams can count on one hand the number of wins in the last 5 seasons
  14. Well for one thing Imustats, whhhhaaaaaaaattttttt about that block in the back (NO CALL) on the first big run from scrimmage in the first quarter? THAT WAS OBVIOUS FROM DOWNTOWN MIDDLESBORO!!!!! Yes.......these "Kickoff" event type games may seem like fun, but I am not sure I would EVER agree to a game beginning at 9:30 EDT and ending at 12:05 a.m. Also, who ever heard of charging admission for the band to attend?
  15. I didn't know they were going to let the mayor and elected officials officiate the game. TOO MANY "home cooked" calls or Central would have won by three TDS. However, when you go to outlying areas what do you expect. Aside from the officials nightmare, people were very polite and were very genuinely concerned about Robert Longworth's knee injury. Haven't heard today, but early prognosis was 3-4 weeks he would miss.
  16. No doubt Brett Stanton is a good QB. However, don't be surprised if Zach Helton is the pre-season all state QB according to M.F. for the state of Tennessee. Now........I didn't say he was necessarily a higher rated prospect than Brett, but Zach's value to his team is much greater, and he is a more all around play maker than Brett Stanton. Too bad Carter has lost a couple of athletes that would be difference makers to the Fulton machine. Wonder where the Falcons would stack up in Max Emfinger's recruiting poll?
  17. Now for some REAL Observations: Knoxville News-Sentinel hasn't provided schedules all year, why should they start now? Don't they have a private school event to cover? (i.e. Catholic v.s. CAK equestrian trials) Where is the Sentinel on this controversial topic? Avoiding it like the bubonic plague I suppose! As far as I am concerned, the Halls coach is very smart and is probably the most impressionable coach (on his players) than any coach in the KIL. He doesn't always get his proper due, but quietly he gets the job done. Even if the protest is not upheld, Halls will still win this district.(NOT EVEN CLOSE). thumb Now, for all you Oak Ridge folks, you are ridiculously kidding yourselves if you would not have done the same thing in protesting. Again, as someone else said, why have the rule if you aren't going to abide by it?
  18. Not sure who is the best, but I am certain that both Powell and Central will be strong in their district. Morristown East will once again be good, as well as Seymour. Anytime you have a dominant pitcher like an Irwin at Central, even coaching can't usually mess that up
  19. My vote is for the man, the myth, the legend, the one and only BBBBBRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCE!!!! I hear he has been helping out the interim coach and seriously, I hope he gets to hang around. the kids really like him
  20. Not sure about the Riggs rumor, but the Clausen kid to Maryville has been rumored for over a year now. At least two Maryville people (at the championship Saturday) said they heard as recently as two weeks ago that Clausen would be wearing Red and Black next season. However, with a young freshman QB (Burnette)waiting in the wings as heir apparent to Cade Thompson, I don't know how Clausen would fit with the situation at Maryville. Must the ante be upped?
  21. While I admit that Maryville is much like the Yankees, I also must say that P.O.W.ell (some playing there against their will) will play the role of the "spank"ees. Gotta go with the Red Rebs on this one. Although Maryville will tease them for a half. 1st half : Powell 17 Maryville 10 Final score: Powell 24 Maryville 52
  22. Moyers 1, If you think that the Powell QB is...as you say..."more cerebral and quicker than Zach Helton" you must be as the great Jimmy Swaggert once said "on hair'in" or heroine for you non religious types. I feel bad for the Watts kid, but I do not think he is in the same league as Zach. Powell 27 Cleveland 13
  23. Mrebel 171113, First of all, Central's defense is much better in big games. While Maryville will probably score 27-30 pts in the game, so will the Bobcats. Also, you forgot to add the (at least 6) non-calls that every opponent endures when they come to the "Skeeter", not to mention the 4-5 bad calls that every opponent receives as well. I remember the Central game out there two years ago when the referee was told by the Central noseguard that he was being held on every down, only to be told "Shut up son, or I'll throw you out of this game". Obviously he wanted to play, so he did not complain anymore, but kept getting held ALLLLLLL night long. Maryville is a great team, they don't need extra help. Hope things are different from the last couple of games we have played out there.
  24. This is serious. No question the guy is very knowledgeable, and takes it very serious. Now he has a chance to develop another Cox (Aaron, 9th grader) who the sky is the limit for. How dare you question whether I am serious or not, what are you.....from P.O.W.ell?
  25. "The Colonel" Jack Kerr does not get the credit he rightly deserves for the development of the Central Bobcat kickers. While Adam Cox (placekicker) and Kevin Dyer have worked on their games really hard, no one ever mentions the kicking coach Jack Kerr. Kerr spends a lot of time with each and has a great philosophy and countless insight into the kicking game. Before all is said and done for the season, look for Cox to make a game winning field goal attempt. Without the fundamentals stressed by JK, it would not be possible. Halls 13 Central 28
