  1. It appears that both of these former Region 6-5A teams are on the rise in 4A. Congratulations to both coaching staffs
  2. Well the best sophomore QB I saw in Williamson Co. was a littlte guy(from Centennial) by the name of Bates. When he didn't return as QB his junior year, and his team that had great talent didn't go to the spread offense, I started dogging the bone. No telling what he could have done! As amazing as TC Jennings was last year, my pick would be Matt Solima.
  3. Centennial will win this one pretty easily. I'd be surprised if Blackman wins a game this year. I think Oakland was the easiest team on their schedule and they lost 37-9. Cougars should use this game to experiment with their offense. Why not throw the ball 30 times and just see what happens!!!
  4. I look forward to the score of this on to see where Riverdale is in its ability to dominate. Maybe its a difference in playing reserves that has kept the scores down this year for Riverdale. Can anyone speak to that?
  5. I couldn't help but notice Columbia beat Northeast 17-14. Unless Northeast has had a dramatic change in ability, which would be just short of a miracle, Columbia must be struggling. Based on scores alone, I would have to agree with a 20+ point victory for Smyrna
  6. Each of the three mentioned QBs were different. Jennings stroll to the sideline before ripping a pass 25 yards to the only spot where a receiver could catch it and a defender not, stands out in my mind as simply amazing. Solima had the benefit of a tremendous cast of athletes, but because their was no depth at QB, he was not allowed to have running plays designed for him. If he had, I believe he would have really opened some eyes, not having them was probably the difference in them not winning state. What Matt did better than anyone was to throw the ball into the middle of the field without fear. Mikrut had Darrien Waters at RB so again he was limited in his ability to show out, but Michael could do it all. Cordell, in stature, reminds me more of Dave Thomas,QB for Riverdale, that won the state two years ago. He has a poise that is very confident and commanding. He doesn't have the shake and bake of Thomas but he makes very quick deisions and appears to be well coached.
  7. Well we'll see. So far I've been right about Independence. Franklin still is unsettled at QB although I would think that given the 0-9-1 performance by Cantrell, that Sellars will be the starter going forward. They just need to work on how he covers the ball when he runs. Father Ryan is on a roll, they have the athletes, they have the coaching, and they can just pound it at you or put you on your heels with a passing game. They have had only 1 fumble in the past two games and while passing has been limited, no interceptons. Most everyone remembers the lack of preperation Franklin took in preparing for FRHS last year. I dare say that will be not be a problem this year. I would guess that Franklin will practice on Monday. They need to practice this Monday like they did the Monday after their loss to FRHS last year (better to have a wake up call before, rather than after) Bottom line, I don't think Franklin can execute multi-dimensionally (Yet) on offense and that FRHS has the edge there. Franklin's defense will keep the score low but I'd have to go against the Rebels with a prediction of FRHS 17 FHS 7 What does it say that with Ravenwood touted as the game of the year, Todd Campbell doesn't show up in the box scores with any receptions? Franklin has got to get its offense going if it wants to win state
  8. I think the quote by the Indy player in the paper says it all “We prepared for them to run the ball all week,” defensive lineman Nathan Stout said. When you are one dimensional .....
  9. I found it hard to believe that with Brentwood, Franklin, Ravenwood and now Independence having such great success with the spread offense and Coach Gregory deciding to make a move for an offensive coordinator, that he would go with a Wing - T oriented coach, as if to say "I'm right, you can win with running, look at Hillsboro, I'll show you" Don't take me wrong, I 'm not trying to disrespect Coach Gregory, but I am going to say, as I have for years..... A well coached spread offense will beat the bone or the wing t, 9 times out of ten, all other things being equal. If, and its a huge if, you have an exceptional offensive line that can truely dominate the line of scrimmage and you control the clock, you might be able to win on occasion. I really thought that this would be the year that Centennial went to a spread offense and finally broke out.... oh well
  10. I think Franklin loses two games this year, Father Ryan and Independence. While Franklin has a great defense, I just believe these two teams have the advantage. Lets hope they get better as the year progresses and win the big games through the playoffs
  11. 1. Independence 2. Franklin 3. Ravenwood 4. Dickson Co 5. Brentwood 6. Columbia 7. Centennial 8. Clarksville NE
  12. What kind of wheels ya got? Seriously ... is it the difference in athletes or the difference in offensive styles... Does the spread offense rule in Williamson County or what?
  13. Independence jumped on Centennial 28 - 0 at half time. Anybody out there in Williamson County who thought I was "blowing smoke" and that Page was not a good barometer....you might want to take a hard look at this bunch. With Franklin struggling at QB and Becker injured at Ravenwood, my wild prediction looks pretty good right now.
  14. Independence 28 Centennial 0 at the half !
  15. Independence 28 Centennial 0 at the half.....like I said, I take HS football very seriously!!
  16. I seldom "joke" when I talk about football
  17. Get ready for a shocker here folks. If LaVergne was 17 of 32 for 279 look for Independence to be 25 of 35 for 400!! I really think this is a statement game for Williamson County and the spread offense. Independence 45 Centennial 14
  18. I think this is a case of who has the better secondary....I haven't heard much about Ravenwood's secondary, saw a little in a passing scrimmage. Both lines are big .... fewest interceptions wins.... remember that the punt return for TD, and onsides were key to Ravenwood playoff win...have to give them the continued edge in special teams. Franklin needs to have a great night at QB. Eight QB turnovers in past two games won't cut it against Ravenwood.
  19. And what do you think Fr. Ryan is ....chopped liver?
  20. OK come to Independence on 9/1 and watch what happens against Centennial....then lets talk
  21. I'd have to disagree with you about the level of Page. In fact thats one of the main reasons I think Independence is so strong. I only was able to stay for the first half but I thought it was a very physical game and Independence was able to have their way despite a physical and speedy Page team.
  22. I thought Ravenwood was a fluke last year, having such success so soon! Well folks get ready for another quick success story out of Williamson County. I'll go out on a limb and say you are looking at the next Region 6-5A champs. Independence win over Page
  23. Where you been !!! You would have really been impressed with Franklins defense they are ravenous.
  24. Tennessean states that "finding a QB" is a need for Franklin. Well to Cantrells defense, you'd have to be superman to get off a pass with the protection he had. Franklin has a huge line but they aren't doing a very good job of pass blocking. Second problem is that when the QBs did have time their throws wern't very close. Don't know if thats the QB or the receiver, but I think it's safe to say that Franklin will be using their receivers more for speed sweeps and reverses rather than deep routes. Both of those problems are correctable with repetitions over time, problem is they have good teams coming to town quickly!! On a positve note, Casey Dykes is a phenomenal athlete for his size and the defense did very well against a very big, very strong O-Line from LC. Nice surprise was to see Andrew Payne have a huge game, putting still one more arrow in an already full quiver. If Defense wins championships ....Franklin is on its way!
