  1. I am hearing Bryson Rosser's name being mentioned here in Knoxville in connection with the DB job. We'll see.
  2. I agree. Who thinks Jefferson County is 'out of the area'? Places like Atlanta, Charlotte, etc. are 'out of the area' As far as the vacancy goes, I would think that Derek Rang would be worthy of consideration.
  3. Twenty five years ago would anyone have ever imagined that kids would be transferring out of DB and Science Hill to play basketball elsewhere.
  4. They were fantastic. They just didn't have much depth at all, and they ran into a very talented Memphis Fairley team in the state tournament. That Fairley team had Sylvester Ford, Marlon Towns and Vincent Rainey I think. They were stacked.
  5. They won Arby's again with Black, Carnes, Smith, Mills, etc. That would have been 92-93, I think. That team was coached by Shipley. They beat a Goodpastuer team the featured Ron Mercer and Drew Maddux.
  6. Good. I dislike when schools play with other teams players. I bet you really dislike a couple of those Blount Co franchises.
  7. Where is he coaching? Former DB and Oak Hill Academy alum Shane Carnes is in his first year of head coaching at Knoxville Christian. I believe that he will be a good coach in a few years.
  8. Green certainly has better athletes. He has had better athletes than anyone else in the area for several years now. I also think he is good and getting the kids involved from a very early age. He is good in the community, also. That being said, I don't think he is a great Xs and Os coach. He appears to be excellent at the other parts of running a program, though. I really don't understand what happened to Morgan. Early on I thought he was a pretty good coach. He had received several coaching awards. Something happened, though. Did he get lazy? Lose touch? Lack on involvement with youth programs and middle school? Did he just stay a few years too long and everyone got fatigued?
  9. Sunday, I think. It was titled 'Change Needed at DB'.
  10. Anyone see the letter to editor that brought attention to the current state of the Dobyns Bennett football and basketball programs that was in the Times News A few days ago?
  11. DB just eliminated HVA's ability to run the ball. HVA can pass, but they would rather not. DB's defensive line was dominant. Also, hats off to DB's specialty team. A blocked punt that lead to a score and a punt return for a TD!
  12. The Tribe's defense really came to play tonight. Several sacks, interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. Really did a nice job of limiting HVA's running game, as well. The return of Maupin provided a spark tonight. ROLL TRIBE!
  13. HVA throws it ok. But, their passing game is improving. Also, they have some athletes to throw to. They mostly throw to guys out of the backfield. Having watched DB at OR, I realized that DB doesn't really have any home-run threats. It is really hard to win without a few great athletes. Oak Ridge has a home run threat at both RB and WR. Playmakers win ball games.
  14. Four pages in,and we are still waiting for an HVA fan to post something. DB is a solid 2 - 8 over their last 10 games, I believe. DB's last win last season was a narrow victory over the Hawks.
  15. I think Frizzell is out with a knee injury. Unique combination of size and speed. Throws the shot put and runs the 100 M. If you hear chants of "We like Dykes" from the HVA student section you will know that it has not gone well for the Indians.
  16. Double Dogs (burgers, wings, etc.), Don Gallo (Mexican) and Casual Pint (beer) are local options worthy of consideration.
  17. Good question. My guess is that the reason they don't pay for traffic control is because they basically don't pay for much at all to support athletics.
  18. I agree. SH has an above average football coach and a average (at best) basketball coach. If/when DB makes a change they need to look beyond Sullivan County.
