  1. as of now, it looks like riverdale and blackman will have homefield advantage in the playoffs. they'll play the 4th and 3rd seeds from 3-5A, respectively. smyrna will be travelling and playing the 2nd seed, but they're still in the race. the contest is between lebanon and oakland for the 4th seed. either one will play the 1st seed from 3-5A.

    5A Top Ten

i agree with region4fan when he/she states that our o-line does not get enough credit. bhs won games without rico and could again if they had to. rico does not make the team. he keeps up morale and does a great job, yes, but there are 10 other guys out there who make his star plays possible. special thanks to the o-line: david hargis, brad brandon, drew copeland, travis williams, derek bowen, and john marc stevens for getting us through some tough games! and josh dennis for getting us through even tougher ones. GO BLAZE!!
  3. we'll see how the playoffs go. it will be a long time before the blaze and the warriors meet again. when (or if)they do, it will be quite interesting to see how it turns out-a completely different game from sept. 20th's.
  4. region4fan, blackman's PRINCIPAL tried to get rhs in trouble with the tssaa. please distinguish the school from the actual person who wrote the letter. many people at the school were against nixon's writing of the letter. it was an unwise decision to make without any concrete evidence to prove that the allegations were true. it was a very unfortunate incident. i would hope that rhs fans and bhs fans alike would be able to put this behind them. the animosity that exists between the two teams is there because of an extremely competitive nature both teams possess. both teams want to win and want it bad. furthermore, many of bhs' seniors and a few coaches started out as warriors which leads to further tension among the teams. it's hard to explain why riverdale and blackman have so much dislike for each other. many bhs students will say it's because riverdale shows poor sportsmanship-it's hard to respect an opponent that doesn't respect you.
  5. where did oakland come from? there are THREE (3) teams in mufreesboro! riverdale is a contender, granted. but what about blackman, #2 in 4-5A?
  6. riverdale is a prime example of the traditional homecoming stereotype. for the most part, their queen is always a cheerleader, and their king is always a football player. and easy on the comments about geeks with 4.0s. i happen to know a few football players with 4.0s. =)
  7. actually, all that was mentioned about the battle of the boro was a brief TV skit in which a girl is asked to go to "the game" by one guy. the girl thinks he means the blackman/smyrna game, but the guy means the RHS/OHS game. she turns away from the first lad and is confronted by another boy who wants to take her to the smyrna game. the girl accepts the 2nd boy's proposal. the skit ends saying, "go with the good guys." not once was the game referred to as the "jokeland/riverdance" game (although it is kinda catchy . there was no threatening or forcing of students to come to the game. i'm sure plenty of BHS students were at riverdale as well as smyrna.
  8. blackman was unable to score a TD throughout the entire game. (smryna's defense really put it to us.) their first field goal came during the first quarter. smyrna returned with a touchdown by quarterback david wolke, but the kicker, jeremy ratliff was unable to make the extra point. at half time, the score was tied 6-6. the second half resulted in a virtual stalemate until smryna, with 6.8 seonds left, attempted a field goal. the kick was wide right and led to their eventual overtime loss. this game was gut-wrenching to watch!

when blackman played riverdale, the team was not as strong as it is now. sometimes it takes time for everyone to learn their talents and how to use them on a team. with rico returning, blackman has become more confident in both their offense and defense. the blaze have come into their own as the season has progressed. as for riverdale, if the warriors met the blaze tomorrow, either team's field, it would be a totally different ball game.
  10. thanks for the invite, but after tonight's game i think i speak for most of us when i say, "we're exhausted" =)
  11. what a relief! thank God we won!!
  12. oakland deserves a lot of credit for what they've done this year. i'm pulling for ohs, but i think it will be hard for them coming off 2 recent region losses. who knows with 4-5A anymore?! everything's all up in the air...
  13. correction: blackman vs. smyrna at smyrna. =)
  14. great post slim.
  15. silence is golden. why risk eating crow when you can keep quiet and win, or lose, with dignity?
  16. yeah, it's blackmAn, not blackmEn.
  17. you can't count blackman's rico turner out. although he's only played two games this season, in both he's been stronger than ever.
  18. 4-5a has always had a reputation for having extremely talented football teams. no one in the region is undefeated which means anything can and will happen. all teams are very competitive this year, and only when the playoffs roll around will we be able to see if it's all hype or if 4-5a still is the best...
  19. it's hard to respect a team when so much trash is talked...
  20. don't forget david hargis, derek bowen, travis williams, drew copeland, will redding, jack stephens, zack gilliam...most of our o-line and a strong part of our d.
  21. as a blackman fan, i can honestly say that no trash talking was necessary this week. oakland is a great team. they don't cheat, nor do they talk trash. both oakland and blackman realize the importance of good sportsmanship. what good is a win if you don't respect your opponent? It's CALLED NOT TALKING TRASH! Niether team needs to give the other any more incentive, it's a heated rivalry already!

    Blaze and Rico

what are you TALKING about? blackman would love to see riverdale again! blackman lasted long enough last year to meet them in the playoffs, why wouldn't they again this year? Don't be to cocky, you just might get to see it soon enough! And believe me if you do it will be alot different than the last time! Blackman REALLY doesn't want to play Riverdale again because it could be worse!!!They won't last long enough in the playoffs to get Riverdale again! AND let's see the score was 45-6 that's alot of defense!!
  23. me too jack! Great post Shady! The guys all deserved the props you gave them! It was a big win for the team as a whole! Way to go guys! I just wanted to add one other thing to this, Shady you left out one player who definatly deserves to be mentioned, Jack Stevens! This guy has to be the surprise of the season! A definate bright spot for the coaches! He has really stepped his game up to another level! Great job Jack I knew you had it in you all along! I'm very proud of you son!
