  1. Well you and your buddies, partners, and friends can have fun finding something to do Friday night, and Maryville will have fun playing football. I mean its kinda a mutual respect thing to shake hands after a game, I guess some people dont have respect for a team who just beat them twice in a season, and ended their season.
  2. I havent seen Mo-Town West this season. But I have seen Maryville twice, and both times dicipline, coaching, and a heart of a champion pulled them through to close games with Knox. Central. This game I wouldnt expect any different, I see Maryville coming out with a win. Maryville with dicipline, coaching, and a heart of a champion... Maryville - 24 Morristown West - 10
  3. Fulton High School and their stadium is right beside St.Mary's hospital (if you know where that is). Field sits parallel to the road, allows only one side for blechers, but they are adaquate for size of crowd. Easy way to get there is to take I-40 through Knoxville and find the Broadway exit. Wont be far past down town Knoxville. After finding the Broadway exit and getting on Broadway (you can only go right), go to the third light (maybe 2nd or 4th). Take a left (should cross a small bridge), and your there, cant miss it. Watch out for traffic, it is horrible due to heavy traffic. So since you are an hour behind already, might want to work in about 30 min to an hour of delay due to consruction into your travel time. An alternate way is to take the I-640 exit off of I-40 and take it to Broadway. After getting off at Broadway, take a right. Travel straight down Broadway and take a right at a WalGreens, and you are there. This route will not bypass the major contruction, it will bypass down town traffic. Overall the stadium is not too diffictult to find. And if you get lost, just ask someone, they should know where it is. And if they dont know where Fulton High is at, just as them where St.Mary's is at, they should know where that is, and Fulton is right beside it. Hope this helps, I know how frusturating it is not to know where some place is at, especially when you are late.
  4. Congratulations to BGA for a great season, enjoy the state championship, you deserve it. Catholic, hats off to you for a great season. Good Luck next season. Knoxville is very proud of you.
  5. Congratulations to Maryville, that was one of the best games I have ever seen. Takes a heart of a champion to come from behind like that. Good luck against M-Town West. Congratulations to Central on a outstanding season, 10-3 is a great season for anybody.

    Clinic Bowl

Congratulations MBA on a great season. Congratulations to BA on a great season also.
  7. I read in the Knoxville News Sentinel that Dobyns-Bennett's top reciever, Lamon Williams was dismissed from the team. It did not give a reason, but any Dobyns-Bennett fans have any ideas why? I mean going into the 3rd round of the play-offs, he must have done something pretty severe. He is a senior isnt he? Just curious, must have been a tough decision for the coach, seems like he is firm with team rules, if thats what happened. If he did break a team rule, I commend the coach for stepping up and staying with his rules.

    Lifting

I believe that if you play football that you should lift year round. A limited workout for those in other sports during that sport, but they still need to lift. Actually I think all sports should hit the weight room. I mean a track runner will lose upperbody strength during track season if he does not continue to lift weights. And it will not hurt anybody in any season to lift alittle weights.
  9. I believe Maryville will play much better in this one. They didnt play well against Central in the regular season in my opinion. Maryville made alot more mistakes in the regular season match-up than Central did. If it wasent for the mistakes, Maryville in my opinion would have won by 2 touchdowns. Once again, Maryville wins with dicipline and coaching. Maryville - 24 Central - 7
  10. From the stats on prepxtra.com, this guy has 201 total tackles on the season. Are these stats for real? I remember 2 years ago S-D padding #99's stats, cant remember his name. But I remember watching film, and there was no way he had the tackles they credited him with. I watched S-D against Seiver County, and this Brad Branam kid did not look to make this many tackles. There are also 2 other kids with 100 tackles on the team. I realize that S-D was on defense alot, but they were scored on at almost will. I just dont see 3 players on a team totaling 400 tackles. I am not taking anything away from these young men, I just dont know if these numbers are legit. I could be wrong. Anyways, congrats to these young men on staying with the team despite the 0-10 season. And if these numbers are correct, I give a HUGE congrats, because in my book 200 tackles in a season is amazing, and the 2 young men with 100 a piece, congrats also. Seems if these numbers are correct that even down 30-40 points, these men continued to play hard.
  11. Cassen Jackson is not the best hands down. I watched the Oak Ridge and Jeff. Co. game and saw 4 backs that are all better than Jackson. I have also seen Jackson play. One of the four backs I saw in that game would have to be the best, Corey Booker, Spencer Gulmire, Jeff Jennings, and Scooter Houston. Jeff Jennings is bigger than Jackson and from what I saw is much faster and quicker, and seems to have better vision. Albert Harris of Austin East seems to be a real good back also. I havent seen him play, but his numbers speak for themselves. Dont get me wrong, Jackson is a fine back, but not the best from what I have seen.
  12. When did Clinton move to 5A in the first place, I dont ever remember them moving to 5A. I am not saying your wrong, I just dont remember them being in 5A. I have always remembered them being in 4A.
  13. Maryville wins with their big game experience, dicipline, and coaching. Central has some athletes, but lack the dicipline or experience. Maryville - 24 Central - 7
  14. No air-horns? Are you kidding me? What next, a person holds a huge "Quiet" sign before a play? Like golf. A loud crowd is one of the things that makes high school football great.
  15. Clinton's stadium is pretty dang loud, not very big stands, but they are only about 15-20 feet from the playing field, makes it very loud. Maryville is real loud too, the big and tall stands are always packed, then the trees in the endzone, and that big building in the other, traps the sound I guess. Central is pretty loud also.
  16. Maryville over Chatt. Central Greeneville over Cherrokee Mo-Town West over Tenn. High Knox West over Knox Central in a big upset
  17. KFLFootball-If you will read the last part of your post (The P.S.). Just as I do sometimes we forget what we once said. Just because I said I thought I played a big factor for Halls doesnt mean I think of myself as a legend. Maybe I did, maybe I didnt, but by no means did I say I was a legend.
  18. I dont believe I ever said I was a legend in any way. I mean I havent been on here talking about myself one bit. I just simply was defending Coach Sheppard when someone said something about a coaching change. All I said was, In my opinion I thought Coach Sheppard could try throwing the ball more, I could be wrong. I know Halls has had two bad years on the talent side of things. And we did not spread the field against Central in the 2nd half. And when we did, we didnt throw the ball first to set up the draw. Jenkins could have thrown the ball better if he had a chance to get in a rythme. I mean you cant expect a guy to throw 3-5 passes a game right on target, if thats all he gets to throw it. Yes Timbo had a bad back, but when you give it to him and there is 3-5 guys hitting him everytime he gets the ball. Yeah he is gonna be hurt. I mean when you talk to people who played on other teams and all week in preparation, they teach the kids to take the dive, and then hit Timbo, and let the QB run it, because they know he wasent a treat. I mean how is that gonna work? To run the triple option you have to have 3 threats, not just 1 1/2. When we had Matt Lance at full back it worked alot better, cause he was the type of fullback that could run for 200yds. I played fullback, and I know neither I, or the other fullbacks were that kind of threat. I mean I dont really know where all this "Legend in my own mind" stuff came from. All I said was that I thought Coach Sheppard could have thrown the ball more. Never said anything about myself. I think Coach Sheppard is a great coach and a great guy. I just think that any team needs pretty good balance.
  19. Thanks guys for all the help. I go to Pellissippi, and its due today, Friday morning.
  20. Here is my paper, any comments are appreciated, its not great, I know, I never claimed to be a good writer.. High school football in Tennessee is an exciting game, filled with emotion and tradition. Months of hard work and dedication during the off-season, which is February through August, climax into a season that can leave you thrilled or disappointed. For some a winning record is a good season, for others it’s making the play-offs, but for some the most gratification comes from winning the state championship. The state championship, or the Blue Cross Bowl, determines the best of the best in a certain classification. But some schools, especially in class 1A, fill that the best is not always winning the Blue Cross Bowl. They feel that some private schools that are playing with the public schools have an unfair advantage over the public schools, because private schools have certain rules that are different than public schools. To better understand the situation, let’s explain how each school is classified. With 304 schools playing football in Tennessee there has to be a governing body, this is the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association, or the TSSAA. First, all the schools are placed in one of two divisions, Division I being public schools and Division II being private schools, who can offer financial aid to athletes when needed. This Division was not created until six years ago. Out of the 304 schools, 281 are Division I, and 23 are Division II (TSSAA.org). The next level of classification is dividing all of the schools in Division I, and Division II into classes based on student enrollment. Schools in Division I are divided into five classes, 1-5A. The classes and the number of schools in each class are as followed: Class Enrollment Count 1A 361 and Under 57 2A 364-673 56 3A 675-957 56 4A 961-1347 57 5A 1348 and Above 55 (TSSAA.org) Schools in Division II are divided into three classes, 1-3A, and the number of schools in each class are as followed: Class Enrollment Count 1A 299 and Under 8 2A 300-599 9 3A 600 and Above 6 (TSSAA.org) After all of the classifications, some private schools have chose to stay in Division I. These schools have mostly been in Class 1A, and that’s where the debate arose. The public schools in 1A have started to feel that the private schools have an unfair advantage because they do not have any zone restrictions. Zone restrictions are determined by the school board of each county, for all the schools in the county, and TSSAA governs these school zones. Although these schools can not supply financial aid to athletes, public schools argue that having no zone restrictions, they can persuade kids to come play for them, giving they can afford and meet the requirements, from anywhere remotely close to the campus. Schools that have chose to stay in Division I and not move to Division II, chose to stay in Division I because they don’t have the tuition or the funding that some of the Division II schools have. Division I private schools argue that they do not give financial aid to athletes, so there is no real advantage over the public schools. They also argue that public schools often have very large zones, resulting in just as many available student athletes as the private schools have. To solve this debate, the TSSAA had a vote among all of their member schools. The vote was for two things. The first was, if there should be a change or to stay with the current format. The second was if there was a change, what should be done. The first proposal was for a total split, all private schools go to Division II, and all public schools go to Division I. The second proposal was not for a total split, but to simply multiply the private school’s enrollment in Division I by two. This would result in these schools playing in a higher class, against bigger schools. Many schools did not favor the split or the multiplying the enrollment by two (TSSAA.org). 333 of 368 (90%) of member schools participated in the vote. Out of these schools, 127 (38%) voted for no change in the current format, and 206 (62%) voted for a change in the current format. As for the vote on what to do if a change was made, 162 (48%) voted for the total split, 140 (42%) voted to multiply the enrollment by two, and 32 (10%) voted that they did not favor the total split or the multiplying of enrollment by two (TSSAA.org). On December 3rd of 2003, the TSSAA Legislative Council will meet to discuss this debate and make a final vote on if a change is necessary, and if a change is made, what will this change be. After the vote if a change is made, the change will not go in affect until the 2005 school year. The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association is responsible for providing an equal playing field for interscholastic sports in Tennessee. Many schools hope that the TSSAA will make the correct decision in making a change or not making a change in the current classification of schools. Because, Tennessee high school football is filled with emotion and tradition, and this excitement of the game shouldn’t be hindered by an unfair playing field.
  21. Thanks again! This might be my last post with ??s So let me see if I got this straight... 1) Div. I public schools feel that the private schools have an advantage because they dont have zone restrictions. 2) Div. I private schools cannont give athletes financial aid. 3) Div. I private schools dont want to move to Div. II because they dont have as much funding as the Div. II schools. 4) Div. II schools want the split because there would be more schools for regions, less traveling, stuff like that. Are these the most important points to this debate? I hope I got this all figured out, its pretty gray in some areas.
  22. Ok, thanks guys for all the help. One more thing, does the school board or TSSAA determine school zones? I am almost 100% positive that the school board determines this. And, if the private Div. I schools move to Div. II, they will be able to give financial aid to athletes, is this correct?
  23. So let me get this straight. All the private schools in Div. I cant give financial aid to athletes? Do these schools have any zone restrictions like public schools? Can someone please tell me how many private schools play in 1A, and if any play in other classes, how many do. Or where I could find this information. Do private schools want to move to Div. II, and if not, why dont they?
  24. Where did I ever say anything about running the ball up the middle? I said Halls uses a smash mouth style of offense, which needs good a O-Line. Once again I think Coach Sheppard is a great coach and enjoyed playing for him. I just believe that he could have passed it more. Im not saying line up with 4-5 wide and throw it 20-30 times a game. But I think that against Central especially where they bring 9 men in the box, you have to spread them out to open up the run. Maybe running 3-4 wide and then giving it to Timbo and let him find a seam to run through, something like that. Im not basing any of my comments on this years team. Halls was at the bottom of the barrel this year in Region 3-4A on talent. I just dont think Coach Sheppard will have as much success as he could have if he would pass the ball alittle more. P.S. I believe I played a big factor for Halls.
  25. Red Devil 1, Coach Julian is interested in becoming a Head Coach somewhere. He interviewed for the Powell job this past off-season.
