Look at a college team, half the players are pitchers. You can never have enough pitchers. We used to carry alot of players in the past, but I think we have decided to cut down on the position players. Only 8 position players can play at a time so why have 15, with 7 on the bench every game. And then most if not all of the pitchers play other positions also. No need for 25-30 players on varsity. And with too many players then you have the guys who don't play and sometimes that creates descention.

Good Grief! Let's start with Drew, I don't think he quit per say, let's just say you need to talk to him about it. Phillips may have helped as a relief pitcher. Other than that I don't think any of the other guys would be playing and some would not have made the cut anyway. A lot of these guys, if they would be honest about it, didn't come out because they knew they wouldn't play. Eldredge is concentrating on going to the NBA after his junior season, so he didn't try out for baseball. The baseball team isn't going to carry 30 players so most would have been cut anyway. Most of these guys are sophs and would have been on jv anyway. I thought Wilson and Stewart quit last year? Maybe that's wrong, but see what kind of impression they left. Look at the current lineup: 1st-Hicks & Bates, 2nd Rende, SS Kelly, 3rd Vaughn & Dobbs, Catcher Vaughn & Dobbs, LF Phelps, CF Alexander, RF Boron. I don't see were any of these guys mentioned would have played. Again other than Phillips pitching, none of te other guys would be playing. If someone has a problem with Garland, I'v never met them. I'v been around him for 8 years and never come across one. How's that Grad?

Defend you must have been a lineman? Robert Smith said recently that he should have dealt with Ryan 2 years ago. Hardnosed is one thing but abusive is another. Some of the current staff now talk about "getting into it with Ryan" about how he treated the kids. Including on the field right after the DB game. Why do you think that so many assistants quit in the last 3-4 years. Some of those asst. coaches said they couldn't work with him. You know there comes a time when you look around and you are the only one left. 52 players last year, headed to 40 something next year, without a change. 18 seniors graduated this year and only 18 players on the freshman team. How many of those freshman would have lasted 4 years. The numbers were turning upside down. You can talk about "they just can't cut it" all you want but you can't have a team without players. These kids can choose to play or not, but why give them an incentive to not play. He ran up a winning record against the bottom half of 5a region opponents and the bottom half of the local 4a region. Finishing 4th or worse in the region every year is not cause to celebrate.

Last night, at the visitation for Phillip, the crowd was overwhelming. It was suppossed to be from 5-8pm, and I think it lasted till 11pm, before the last people in line got in to visit the family. The line of people was out the door of the funeral home at 5pm and wrapped around the building as the night went on. The funeral home is on state hwy 153 in Chattanooga and is 6 lanes at that point and I was told the traffic had the road blocked. We are talking about 1000+ people there. I even saw a former mayor of Chatt. there. This is a testament to the kind of person Phillip was. Everyone that met him became his friend. I knew of no one that every met Phillip that didn't feel that way. I would bet that every high school in the area was represented last night. He will be sorely missed by this family. We love you Phillip.

Former Baylor lineman Phillip Cole was shot and killed last night in Athens Ga. He was a starting lineman this fall for U of The South. He was my 2 sons best friend growing up in Chatt. and will be greatly missed by our family. Please pray for the Cole family.

I understand that the new point guard that transfered to SD has decided to quit now also.

What is a balla bush? I don't think anyone on varsity will see much of the bench, if there are only going to be 7-8 players. I heard the new point guard that just transfered to SD is quitting also.
