  1. I don't know what the guy above means by "causing a stir". The folks in Cumberland County should be eternally grateful to pull a coach out of Gwinnett Co. Gwinnett Co. school district pays as much as any in the country and is a definite big paycut by moving to TN. Shultz's defense held Brookwood to 17 points and only losses were to the top programs in the state- Buford (12-1), Brookwood (AAAAA State runner-up), Parkview (legendary program, top 5 in AAAAA), and Lowndes (AAAAA Champs in '04 and '05). Central is traditionally not a strong program, but had a good run this year. Which is good news for CCHS since they aren't a traditional football powerhouse either. Shultz has been coaching against some of the best players and coaching staffs in the nation in that part of Georgia. Other than parts of Texas, California, and Florida, you won't find a more competitive place to coach and play than metro Atlanta and Gwinnett County in particular. CCHS made an INCREDIBLE hire is all there is to it. I just hope the community gives this guy the tools both financially and otherwise to build the great program he's capable of doing. Same for Stone HS. Coach Reeves has a good resume too. Give the Cumberland Co. administration some credit. They had a job to do, it wasn't an easy job, but it appears they hit two homeruns.
  2. According to local media, Robert C. Reeves, Jr. was introduced at the School Board meeting. He was an assistant at William Blount. Any info from east Tennesseans on the coach? Sounds like the program has had some success. Hopefully he'll bring it with him. Great opportunity at Stone he's walking into.
  3. http://www.ajc.com/highschool/content/spor...04/30busby.html Georgia's 4A Coach of the Year in football ended up resigning yesterday after a dispute with administration over giving a kid a varsity letter. The kid hadn't met the set minimum requirements to earn a letter. The kid had previously been kicked off the team during the playoffs for cursing the coach. But the kid also has Tourette's syndrome. I know this happened in GA, but it goes to show you how crazy things have gotten in the world of H.S. sports. Statesboro is in south Georgia, so don't think this is an suburban Atlanta soccer mom thing. South Georgia is similar in a lot of aspects to rural Tennessee.
  4. I agree with the other posters. Do not waste your money on these services. Prepare a film with about 15 minutes of highlights followed by the kid's best game. Also fix up a resume to attach to the film with the kid's athletic accomplishments, height/weight/40/bench, GPA, address, etc. Be realistic though in picking which schools to mail it to. Yes, colleges do receive hundreds of films from unrealistic parents every day, but they try to watch all films. If you feel very confident a kid can play at a certain level for a school, follow it up a few weeks later with a call or e-mail to see if the coach got to watch the film. On a side note, I think it is incredible how apathetic some coaches are when it comes to helping promote their players. Worse yet is the coach who takes the attitude "if I wasn't good enough to play for X college, my players can't possibly be better than I was back in the day". So they push their players to colleges actually below the kid's talent level. If the kid doesn't know any better he could very well end up getting a pittence in scholarship money. If his coach would've sent film to a higher division the kid might have gotten a full ride.
  5. It would be nice to see the Rhea Co. rivalry get started up again. I know they scrimmage each other quite a bit. It would've been nice to see CC finally hang an L on the Eagles, which they could've done last year.
  6. I think they can pull off Ws against Warren and Coffee. Definitely going to be a reloading year though. Have to replace probably 20 of their starters. Here's an article following spring practice: http://www.crossville-chronicle.com/Chroni...ballsummer.html
  7. There's an article about it on the Tennessean website. www.tennessean.com/sports/
  8. Andy Kelly did play at Rhea Co. but they're all about the wing-T and the ground game and have been for years. Farragut has a pretty good shotgun package that they'll break out on people when they have the talent to support it. Tennessee high school programs run a lot of option because not many schools can beat people on talent alone, have to rely on the trickery and deception that the option can give. The option is also a fun system to coach and play in.
  9. Is Scott Maddox still an assistant down there in Dunlap? What positions does he coach? He did a good job at Cumberland County where he was an assistant for a few years. Excellent weightroom coach.
  10. I've heard the same rumors about Wattenbarger from Cumberland County applying for the Moterey job. I find it odd that a head coach would leave a 5A school for a 1A school. But they've been having a lot of headaches in Crossville over the locker room debacle. For those of you who've forgotten the sewers backed up during their first round playoff game so bad that they couldn't use their own team meeting rooms at halftime. There's also been problems with mold and they've had to spend over $20k to clean up the place. The locker rooms, weightrooms, coaches offices, equipment, and team rooms are all located in the stadium. Evidently the problem isn't going to go away and it may take years before the school board gets around to building some new facilities for the team. Even though football is pretty big on the mountain. It would frustrate me as well if I was a coach. It looks like Monterey is going to be the winner and get a good coach whoever it is.
  11. Any word on who he's hearing from? Is he going to the Nike Camps this year?
  12. http://www.crossville-chronicle.com/Chronicle/Sports/allinthegame4403.html Here's an article on the latest with the CCHS sewage problem. The one time they did get kicked out of the locker room was ta halftime of the first round of the playoffs.
  13. North Gwinnett isn't a bad job. I would be surprised to see Hammontree leave it to coach at WB. The only reason I can think of is if he's gotten tired of Atlanta. But North Gwinett is in the suburbs, so its not too different from coaching at a place like MAryville. [Edited by lawdawg on 4-1-03 11:59A] [Edited by lawdawg on 4-1-03 11:59A]
  14. CCHS did lose just about everybody. The great offensive line that they leaned on so heavily is going to be gone. I think they're losing 18-20 of their starters from last year's squad. But they do have a great RB coming up in junior-to-be Heath Blaylock.
  15. If you don't play college football, I would recommend being an equipment manager at a D-1 school. Sometimes it can pave the way for getting a grad assistant job, which is golden in the coaching ranks.
