  1. voleagle I really hope that you are not from Seymour. If I find out that you are part of, or associated with, our program, you will no longer continue to be. If you are from Seymour, then you realize that I will find out who you are. Congrats to all the State Tournament Qualifiers from Region II. Good Luck at State! Darrel Lauderdale
  2. There are alot, and I do mean alot, of people attend the State football championships every year. That is why it makes more money than any other State Championship event. Would more people attend the state duals if they were held in a college venue? No. Lack of seating is not what is keeping people away. Every year we always hear about all the money wrestling is losing due to the lack of support of our regional and state championships. David Lipscomb does have a very nice place. Heck, I don't care where it is held, I just like for us to go back and compete in the darn thing!
  3. Here you go: 103 Puckett, Hibbert, Long, Dugway 112 Abercrombie, Webb, Watson, Click 119 Henderson, Campbell, Geren, Hibbert 125 Breeden, Everett, Munsey, Mountain 130 Talley, Cate, Zeits, Kinser 135 Tisdale, Anderson, Layton, Gorden 140 Dix, Gainer, Berry, Fender 145 Hall, O'Hern, Farinella, Thompson 152 Turner, Smith, Harless, Kimmler 160 Henry, Blankenship, Cardwell, Campbell 171 Knox, Thomason, Daley, Wesselman 189 Dunn, Cable, Hill, Sullivan 215 Hazelett, Lumpkin, Jackson, Dailey 275 Johnson, Telfer, Graves, Vandergriff There you have it. The top 4 seeds in each weight class.
  4. Guys I wouldn't get too concerned with who is seeded where. The brackets always change prior to the start of the tournament (scratch meeting). Talley is a very good wrestler. He placed in the State last year. He has had a very good year. He deserved the number 1 seed. Cate deserved 2nd. The 130 pound weight class will be a very good to watch. I have the brackets at school but I will try to do this from memory: As far as upper class seeds: in order left to right 275: Johnson, Telfer, Graves, Vandergriff 215: Hazelett, Jackson are the top 2 189: Dunn, Cable, ?, Daily 171: Knox, Thomason are the top 2 160: Henry, Cardwell, Blakenship, Campbell There you go. When I return from practice, I'll have the brackets with me and I will complete/correct this list. Then again, things will change on Friday. They always do.
  5. A College Venue would cost a lot more money than a high school venue. Clarksville does a great job and they take great pride in doing so.
  6. Why shouldn't the coaches have a voice in who calls the Region and State events? The coaches are really the only ones that can truly evaluate the officials because we see them in action. Besides, if we pick them then we have no reason to complain about them. The better and more experienced Officials should call all State events, even if that means they get to call both the State Duals and the State individuals. Good Officials should be rewarded for a job well done during the regualr season. Why didn't Elsie and Craft call the state duals? They are 2 of the better officials in our state. They should have been there. What I like about both of them is they both are approachable. You can ask them to explain a call and they will without getting offended and/or take it personal. You can tell by the way the handle themselves that they are there for the kids and the sport! I know that there are other officials out there that do the same thing, but I saw there names mentioned above and I did not know they did not call the State Duals. I wasn't at the state duals so I can't make a judgement on the officials.
  7. He is our Coaches Rep who presents our ideas to the TSSAA
  8. Here is an idea. Do away with the TSSAA State Duals. In its place, have a dual tournament involving the 8 to 10 top ranked teams in the state. To appease the Public and Private people, have 2 sets of rankings and run it like 2 seperate events at the same site. Call it what ever you want to: "Tennesse's Brawl for It All" Clarksville does a great job with the current state duals, so they should host this event. Just an idea.
  9. Nic I really did not put much thought of who started that thread. One of my guys told me it was you. Who knows? Whoever started it could be right. Nic you can be as good as you want to be. You have that ability. Your strong, A Good Athlete, Smart, a Hard Worker, and above all very Coachable! Thank You Nic for your effort. Good Luck to you and your Parents! Please keep this in mind though. Once you begin to think you are the best you can ever be, the only way you can go is down. Great Wrestlers/People find ways to improve themselves day in and day out! Never be satisfied with where you are at! D. Lauderdale
  10. I am not saying we need 6 State Champions. For now, a division of the Public schools into an A and AA would suffice. If they allow the private schools are allowed to return and compete against us, then I still say 2 will suffice. I know we are not talking about the NCAA's but the comparison can be made. It was 9 years ago when I became a head wrestling coach. Back then, the argument was that a Tennessee State Wrestling Champion should be from the state of Tennessee. They didn't mean born and raised, they simply meant that their families should live in the state of Tennessee. The point centered around a kid, whose family lived in New Jersey, won the Tennessee State Tournament. I may, or they may, have had their facts wrong, but that is the argument made back then. The argument that football coaches, and I am one, make to defend the 7 state championships awarded this years, all center around the word "fairness!" Whats good for the Goose, is Good for ther Gander!
  11. Then why not have 1 College division. Public, Private, DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, ... Is having so many NCAA Champions hurting our sport? I don't think so. Within our sport we have a division that allows equal size athletes to compete against one another. Why can't the same be done for school teams? I have friends that coach in FL, VA, AL, and GA. They all agree that classification has been good for wrestling in their state.
  12. gofish, what is unfair about Public VS Public and Private VS Private. What can be viewed as unfair are small (enrollment) VS large (enrollment) schools. In every other sport, schools are divided, based on enrollment, into regions. This allows schools of similar size to compete against one another. I mean, come one, even bowling (no offense intended against the sport) is divided into small/large divisions. The arguement that "there are not enough schools that offer wrestling" or "Tennessee should have only 1 champion" just does not hold water anymore. GA, AL, KY, FL, NC, VA, wrestling schools are divided into classifications that allow similar sized schools to compete agaist one another for state championships. Football in Tennessee has 7 State Champions. (5 Public and 2 Private). There are between 50-60 teams in each division. Each team that won a state title this year deserved it. The were the best team in their classification. Establishing an A and AA divisions for wrestling could only help the sport in Tennessee. More schools would be inclined to pick it up and more kids would participate in it. Also, the sport would receive alot more media attention. I SEE NO NEGATIVES TO ESTABLISHING TWO DIVISIONS FOR OUR PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING PROGRAMS. IT WOULD BE ALL POSITIVE.
  13. Does anyone know why Maryville College did not attend this event?
  14. Thanks for all the ideas! One thing that did help us last year is that we decided to go head to head as our first criteria. The problem is not all of the guys have wrestled each other. Can't go by head to head. Maybe no common opponent. Some guys want to go by record. Problem is not everyone wrestles the same caliber of competition. It did not go as bad last year as some but this year there will be some challenges. As far as tournaments in the Ala - Fla Panhandle area, there is a group in Destin/Ft Walton beach organizing an AAU event right now. As soon as they set the date they are going to let me know! Be a nice trip huh? Wrestling and Deep Sea Fishing in the same Weekend! I'm there!!! For a copy of our AAU Schedule for Tennessee, go to our new web site www.seaausports.com Click on wrestling and our schedule will appear on the right of the screen
  15. Every year, the seeding criteria in our Region (II) changes. Any of you guys from the other Regions care to share your Regions Criteria for seeding your Regional Tournament? I would love to know what you guys do before our seeding meeting next Monday.
  16. I believe this years Region II Tournament will be the most excitingone we have had in a while. As you look up and down the weight classes, there are some exciting match possibilities. The seeding meeting itself may need to be video recorded and reproduced and sold as a fund raiser. It could be a really long Monday! Thank Goodness the seeding meeting is being held at Damon's in Sevierville! We may need to eat first, just to relax some people'd emotions.
  17. best of the west, read the rule again. Most coaches call it a Head and Arm throw. If you don't have the arm, it is not legal because it would be a "headlock on the neck with only both hands". This is a National Federation Rule and not just an AAU rule.
  18. Hey downforthecount, This was the first year for this event. We would love to have teams from all regions of the state come and wrestle in it. It will only improve the quality of wrestling in Tennessee. This was the first year for Middle School Duals in our area (Metro Knoxville Area) and it has been a big success. Next years event will be even better and everyone is invited to compete!
  19. In a very exciting match at William Blount HS, the Seymour Middle School Eagles defeated Cleveland Middle School to win the 2004 Tennessee AAU Middle School Dual State Title. The final score, I believe, was 46 to 33. Congrats to the Eagles and Coaches Rusty McCroskey and Don Barnett for a job well done! Congrats to Marty Carpenter and the Blount County Wrestling Club for an outstanding and well run tournament.
  20. The Knoxville News Sentinel will remove "Knoxville" from its name. It will become more of a "metro" area News Paper, covering Knox county and all the surrounding counties: Sevier, Blount, Union, Roane, Jefferson, Morgan, and, I believe, Hamblen County. With this in mind, someone, I am not quite sure who, but someone with the Sports Dept. of the newspaper suggested the idea of naming an All-Metro Team instead of an All KIL team. There are a few ways to accomplish this. One: have an all Metro Tournament. This would be a very good event and would have to be done in 2 days. It would take place on the same weekend as the KIL is now. Problem: most of the teams are in Region II and this would simply be another Region II Tournament, so here we go again wrestling the same guys. Catholic, Webb, Jefferson County, and the Hamblen County Schools are not in Region II so they would be new faces to some but most of us wrestle them now. Two: Send in results of the wrestlers matches to the Prep Xtra people and have the Newspaper guys just pick the All-Metro Team. You know the problem with this idea! Three: Same as above mentioned idea except, let the coaches vote on the all Metro Team. You know the problem with this idea! Four: Divide the Knoxville Metro Area into Districts: East/West or North South. Each District will hold a tournament and the results will determine an all District Team. Then, the winners could meet on the following Tuesday in a District VS District match and the individual winners would be declared All Metro. Problem: Again, having to face the same guys but it would be a great event to get the guys ready for the pressures of the Regional and State Tournaments. Also, it would take up 2 dates. Just a few ideas!
  21. At the seeding meeting, the coaches will predict who will finish where at the Region Tournament. Predictions and Seeds don't mean crap! The Region Tournament starts the new season. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN! A wrestler should not put too much thought into where they are seeded. A number 1 seed does not mean a number 1 finish.
  22. Sevier County beat Seymour and Pigeon Forge. . Congrats to Coach Hurst, Coach Winstead, and all the wrestlers at SCHS for claiming their first Sevier County Championship. They did a very good job!
  23. The Region II Duals will be at Karns HS on Thursday night. Weigh-in 5:30 and wrestling at 6:30. The only change that may occur is if Greenback loses to Union County or Gibbs on Tuesday night (at least I think it is Gibbs they are wrestling, it may be Fulton). Anyway, if Greenback loses one of those matches, then Farragut wins the District and has the oppotunity to host the Region Duals. In the other District, it is down to South Doyle and Seymour. Maryville has won the District, these two are in the hunt for 2nd. If Sevier County beats Seymour on Tuesday, then South Doyle finishes 2nd. If Seymour beats Sevier County, then Seymour is 2nd.
  24. I thought the reason why was because Folkstyle is an American Style of wrestling.
