I'm from Humboldt & I admit I didn't think Huntingdon would beat Lipscomb.I felt Milan had a better chance but I'm thrilled to be proved wrong.Clearly the 2A title was decided in Paul Ward Stadium in the semis & I think Milan would have won as well.But,of course,the important point is that Huntingdon earned its 34-29 win over Milan & made West TN proud by dismantling Lipscomb.Congratulations Huntingdon on your 2A State Championship!

Camden has a head coach in Kevin Ward that's going to turn that program into a big time winner in the next few years.The days of Camden getting pushed around the field is in the past.BTW,I'm not from Camden.

Mitchell's offense stalled for the most part against Humboldt's defense last week & we know Milan scored 44 with Coach Morris calling off the dogs in the 4th quarter.It won't be much of a game.Milan-Carver could be interesting in the quarterfinals.

I'm not going to get into the best team discussion because it's just opinions being aired.I find MemphisPlayer's recaps to be very insightful.Nice job,Memphis Player!In Round 1 this year rural WT went 8-4 against Shelby County.Too bad my Humboldt Vikings were one of the 4.

I have to admit I didn't think Trinity would beat West Carroll twice but they did.What the heck happened in the South Fulton game?I heard they were up 18-16 then they lose 42-18.Very impressive night all around.

In the 3rd quarter of the Humboldt-Mitchell game the key play came on the play where the ball was snapped over the Mitchell punter's head.Mitchell led 12-0 & a Humboldt player tried to pick up the ball at the 1 & run it in instead of recovering the fumble for 1st & GOAL at the 1.He bobbled it & the Mitchell punter recovered it for a safety.The Humboldt TD in the 4th quarter only made 12-9 when it would've put Humboldt in the lead if they convereted 1st & goal at the 1 into a touchdown in the 3rd qtr.If,if,if,the bottom line is HHS fell 12-9.

Let me be clear on something I said earlier.My post about MBA losing to BA had more to do with a personal dislike of national HS polls than an opinion about the game.I think the national polls are idiotic & pointless.I used MBA's ranking for the simple reason they had a ranking.If you want the truth BA is the one I strongly dislike & I would've prefered MBA had won the game.I don't think there's any question MBA has the best team in the state & will win the D2-AAA state title.

Working on a golf course I see a lot of HS golf from the Gibson County area.I didn't get to see Lexington but the prevailing view was they had the best team in the area which they clearly proved to be correct.Congrats to the Tigers on the state title & good luck to all West TN teams next year.Being from Humboldt I was especially pleased to see Wesley Stewart continue to do well.

Well,it's happened.Brentwood Academy just proved MBA was overrated at #9 in the country.National polls are a waste of time because most of schools never play each other.

Check the D1 playoffs when they come out.You can count on AT LEAST 1 team making the playoffs with a 2-8 or 1-9 record every year.I think D2 should only take the top two myself because they're so few teams to begin with.

I think Milan will win it 21-7.After Milan's dismantling of JCM last week I can't see Huntingdon beating them.

You can wake up now.SF has a good team but let's not get carried away.

You have to expect verbal junk from Milan players when their head coach does the same thing.Milan is the best team in the area but Crockett County could very well knock them off in the playoffs.Milan isn't going to get "region-tough" as I call it this year because Union City,Westview & Humboldt are all down this year.

The TSSAA is all about the cash.Just look at the football playoffs where 4 teams in a 6 team region make the playoffs.Ticket prices for post-season play in all sports jumps because the TSSAA gets a cut from every event.If there was any way to go from 3 classes in basketball to 5 like football has Ronnie Carter would do it in a second.

Westview's schedule this year was plenty tough.The Lady Chargers win 52-48.

Being from Gibson County,(Humboldt),I was hoping Gibson County & Trenton would each bring state championships home.They are the only schools from the county to never win a title.Milan won the state in 1960 before the A,AA,AAA classifications;Humboldt won AA titles in 1979 & 1985 & I think Bradford has won about 50.lol Gibson County was the only rural West TN team to lose on Wednesday and that was to another area team in Chester County.WT teams are 3-0 against teams from other areas of the state.

Yes they are.The biggest story to me in West TN Girls basketball in the districts tournaments is Riverside going 2-17 then advancing to the district finals at 4-17.

The best player from Humboldt is Doug Atkins.All-Pro 9 times and elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the early 80's.He was a senior on UT's 1951 NC team.

It's a new magnet school in Memphis.I think this is the school's 2nd year.Bradford beat them by almost 40 in the 1st round of the district tourney & Bradford is about a .500 team.

Westview 62-60 over Gibson County.Just imagine the fight in the semi-finals of the region when these teams fight to advance to the Sub-State.Survival of the Fittest!!

I think Oak Ridge & Shelbyville are the two best teams.Being from the West I hope Jackson North Side can beat them but Oak Ridge & Shelbyville have played in national tournaments.

Lake County may have struggled in recent years but they have a great football tradition.Don't be surprised if someone who knows that tradition would be interested in trying to rebuild the program.Dyer County has also struggled a long time.

I've said Westview all along but I think the loss of Fuqua is starting to have a negative on them.It's going to be a fight between Obion,Westview & Gibson County.Right now,I'll stay with Westview but I'm wavering a bit.I'm happy that Humboldt is finally decent after 15+ years of bottom feeding.
