covington vs. ripley in 2003 playoffs....rematch from regular season....covington wins in overtime 17-14

As far as the region goes I read on Coach T awhile back that after this year Region7-3A is gonna be split up, I think dealing with the changing populations of schools but Im not sure, do you know if this is a fact and what will be the new teams in the region? It is true that the region isnt as tough as some other ones, and yes Covington has dominated in recent years with the exception of last year, but the region competition isnt as consistent as it should be. Ex. Dyer County in '01, was a good football team, why was there such a drop off in talent? Ripley is always pretty competitive, and in the last 4 or 5 years when the new coaches came into Obion, OCCHS and they have been improving every year, I think that the offense they are using now puts them in a better position to win than the wide open offense they had, even though it might not be as exciting but it works.Who will be their QB this year since Moore is gone? Just like everybody knows against Covington if you put 8 or 9 people in the box to stop the run your defense better get stops and teams last year did that and were successful when they dared Covington to beat them through the air. Covington threw more times last year than they have in the past few years but they still have to get better in their passing game. Their non region games will have a big impact on how they do in the playoffs just like last year. Cant wait for football to start!

How can you say Covington has lost its aura of invincibility? They have lost 1 game in the region in the last seven years and now they are not the team they used to be? Covington did come into the Obion game last year overlooking them at 1-2 and granted they didnt play a very good game. But you gotta give credit to Obion and their coaching staff for putting together and executing a good game plan to stop Covington but you gotta admit Covington didnt play a great game. Covington will be a better team this year than they were last year and could have another deep run in the playoffs and possibly another State Championship appearance. They have the same schedule again this year except they have to travel to Milan and to Germantown.

Can anybody for Obion County tell me if Wes Moore signed anywhere to play football this year?

Aw yea man he was REAL SCARED to return those kicks. Man if you knew anything about football, the kids generally do the things the coaches tell them to do but i guess pigeons aint to bright in that area. Man I already told yall on my other posts that I thought #99 played an extremely great game and he helped his team blow Covington out. I aint takin anything away from his performance because he has a chance to be a big time player on the next level if he wants it bad enough. Isnt this whole website based on peoples opinions and facts? That was all that i was sayin in theat post and that is my opinion. Your opinion isnt the same so this is just something great to talk about buddy.

I didnt imply anything else than what i said. And if you didnt read what i said before that i said #99 had a great game and he is a great player. I just said that #15, no it aint me, had more tackles and more receptions. Like i said earlier I give all the props in the world to Fulton and their players cause you were right Covington didnt have a chance in the game but that doesnt excuse the point that no one on Covington had a good game does it. Overall they played like crap against a very good team and anytime you do that you ought to get beat and they did.

First I just want to give props to Fulton for winning the state cause they had a big time team and I want to give props to #99 to cause he played a great ball game. But its bad when #15 for Covington had more tackles than "Mookie" but he didnt get the defensive MVP. I know that the award generally goes to the person on the winning team, but its all good. Oh yea he had more catches too!

I agree that CBHS had probably one of the toughest schedules areound. Covington had a pretty tough schedule of its own. They had three loses at the end of the regular season. Germantown-State Champs, Milan-Semis, and Obion-There loss to Brighton in the second round was a fluke, and they lost to a great team in the state championship game. Credit goes to Coach Linville for scheduling tougher opponents this year because those 3 loses helped the Chargers at the right time, in the playoffs when it counted. Playing great teams can only make your team better and that is what it did for Covington.

Although I have never seen Ronald Holland play I have heard about him, and from what I heard he was a beast not just on the football field but in track and in basketball. From having played with Lareko Boykin, I can say he was the best running back to ever come through Covington.

I think Milan has probably the best fans in West Tennessee. At every game the stands are always packed. Covington's fans are good too.

Hey whitefuel, yall need to act like yall have been to the playoffs before.....oh wait this is the first year for yall aint it. Hey man I know Brighton has started come on strong as of late but dont count your chickens before they hatch buddy. Hopefully it will be a good game, Go Covington and #15!

I think we will win but i dont think it will be by 38. Brighton has made some improvements during the past several weeks but Covington is finally coming together as a team. Playing Germantown and Milan is paying off for the Chargers at the right time. The Chargers cant underestimate Brighton. The controlled the ball the majority of the game against Obion and kept the Rebel offense off the field. Corckett County did the same thing two years ago and beat the chargers even though that wasnt suppossed to happen. Covington still has to stay focused and keep playing good ball. Go Chargers and #15!

It is gonna be a great game but the advantage Covington has is a mental advantage. Ripley was suppossed to win the game last time but Covington pulled it out. A mental advantage is a tough thing because Ripley hasn't beaten Covington since 1997 when Coach Lewis was coaching. But I cant wait to watch the game.

In the last game i think ripley had a good mismatch with #80 against Covington's corners but they didnt utilize him enough. Ive only seen this kid play once but he has the ability to change the game on one play. If ripley is smart they will throw him the ball more tonight but i hope mcadams doesn't have time to throw the ball. Is this #80s first year playin football? I know he plays basketball.Covington has to throw the ball to #15 more, but Williams has got to have time to throw the ball. Its gonna be a great game tonight. This is what high school football is all about, rivals playing a do or die game with thousands of people watching the game, what more can anybody ask for? Go Covington and #15!

Actually timber talker, covington had a chance to send the game into ot against Milan with under a minute left and besides a lapse in special teams in the second quarter against Germantown the score was 10-7 so dont give me no crap about Covington not having a chance to win those games. Thats like sayin Manassas and Treadwell had a REAL chance to beat Ripley. Yea right. Go Chargers and #15.

I agree with what crc said, you are only gonna get better by playing better teams. How did playing Manassas and Treadwell make Ripley a better football team? It didnt except for beefing up their stats. Playing tougher teams will only make Covington better in the playoffs. Good luck Covington and #15!

Yea I don't think the tie breaker is fair because Ripley gets the benefit of playing weaker non-region games but if Covington would have beat Obion there wouldn't be any problem. But Im ready to watch the Covington Ripley game in the 2nd round if Covington gets past Raleigh Egypt.

Ripley by 3 td's? Ripley was suppossed to win by three td's the first game.Maybe if the Ripley players would have quit raising their arms tryin to get the crowd crunk and would have just played football they would have won. I was at the game and covington's defense played great but they can still play better. There offense still aint playin the way they should be but they are improving each week. If Covington don't play their best game of the year on both sides of the ball, Milan will win big but go Covington and #15.

Hey Ripley High you aint been on in a while. Who are the people that think Ripley is ten times better than Covington? Let me guess everyone of them is from Ripley.Yea i agree with some of the stuff Ripley High #12 said but Ripley is not ten times better than Covington. If they were they would have beat Covington bad. Covington is not as good as they have been the last couple of years and they are not even close to the Covington team that Milan beat in 2000 but they are getting better each week. Their offensive line still needs to make improvements and their defense needs to keep playing well. I heard Milan should win 2A this year, who are some of yall's good players we can look out for?

I remember Mario Macalrath palyin and he was real good. Radale Pearson from Ridgeway.Cedric Wilson and Al wilson. Darron White from Covington who scored 83 touchdowns in his career at Covington. He scored a touchdown 7 different ways his senior year of high school and Im sure all you Martin Westview fans remember "The Play" in the playoffs at Covington when he stripped the ball and ran 99 yards for a touchdown to win the game.
