  1. East at Greeneville has been moved to next week, as has Jeff at CCHS.
  2. I would trust you guys more than the Knoxville media. I just relayed what I had heard. I don't think there's anything to it myself, but who knows. Guess we'll all find out soon enough.
  3. KJ Kelley is now attending Morristown West. Also, the times of the doubleheader in Week Zero are: Fulton-MoWest at 5 p.m. and AE-East at 8 p.m. Of course, those times could change, but it will not be more than an hour earlier.
  4. The rumbles we always heard in Morristown during his tenure and since the announcement that the OR job had come open again is that Don Woods would apply for the job. Well, it was confirmed to me by one of the Knoxville television sports anchors with inside info on the search. I don't know where he is in the process, but since they have started interviews, I would say Woods has interviewed or will be doing so in the next few days. Take it for what it's worth, but this would be a fantastic hire for Oak Ridge if they get Woods.
  5. What are everybody's thoughts on the games this Friday? Morristown West hosts Greeneville First time was exciting, down to the wire at Greeneville. This time, with the game at West, it's not as close. The Lady Trojans are playing terrific basketball right now, and Taylor Hall has stepped her game up since their only loss of the season. Nicole Dickson gets her points every time out, and Friday will be no exception. I just don't think that she has enough help on the road to get Greeneville a win. MoWest by 10. Cherokee at Jefferson County The Lady Chiefs are still struggling to find their identity with a young squad. JCHS has been a streaky team thus far, but Haley Nelson seems to be putting together a solid run going towards the tournament. Cherokee has struggled all season on the road, and the Lady Pats are tough at home. JCHS by 14. Cocke County at East The Lady Red rebounded from the home loss to West with a lopsided win at home over Grainger. East has to be the most difficult team to predict. With the game in Morristown, can East come up with enough magic like they have lately to win a game they probably shouldn't? I say no, but it will be close. CCHS by 7. How does everybody else see these games turning out?
  6. Yeah, you've all heard of watching paint dry. Well, listening to the Morristown East broadcasts on WCRK or the Morristown West broadcasts on WJDT are like listening to paint dry. Very bad. If you want to hear the games called well in Morristown, you need to listen to WBGQ for East broadcasts and WMTN for Morristown West games. Billy and Chris do a great job calling the East games on WBGQ, and the guy (forgot his name) does very well on the West games with the newspaper guys coming on there also.
  7. I think a lot of us that knew about Brianna Kelley's injury had feared the worst or knew the worst, but it's always sad to hear it confirmed. That's a big loss for the Lady Devils, and I'm just curious about something. I read about Rainey Story injuring a shoulder in the Cocke County game last Friday. So my question is this for either ghsbballfan, barb, or anybody else associated with Greeneville. How is she doing and how long is she out? I saw that she didn't play against Cherokee, and I'm assuming she was out against D-B also. Just curious because I think she is a terrific player for the Lady Devils. Also, on a side note, is she related to Gabe Story and how is she related if she is?
  8. For once, I thought the game was called fairly well by the officials. When you don't notice them out there, they have done a good job. Your arguments about Taylor 'climbing the backs of the lady Red all night' are not true. Hall just happens to be a great athlete that outjumped the girls from CCHS all night. Plain and simple. She leaped higher for the rebounds and got them. It's not over the back when you're not touching them, and if there was contact, it was initiated by CCHS adjusting to where the rebound went. Ask Coach Wester, he said he couldn't believe Hall's ability to know exactly where rebounds were going. Also, when the CCHS bench was T'd up, I believe it was on the bench and not Wade. Wester turned his back and I believe the assistant coach Briggs got the call. And, West had a 52-43 lead when Taylor went to the line for the technical foul shots, so your commment about the fouls running the score up are untrue. West led by 9 at the time, and Hall made both FTs to make it 11. The Lady Trojans won by 14.
  9. Morristown West defeats Shelbyville 54-33. Taylor Hall scores 22 points. West plays again at 7:30 p.m. on Monday night.
  10. Morristown West is leading Shelbyville 36-24 early in the fourth quarter
  11. Erik Hutchins resigned as head coach at South Doyle this morning to become the new defensive coordinator at Morristown West. It was reported on Knox Sentinel site this morning, but he will not be offensive coordinator like their report says. West already has that position filled by Dennis Woods.
  12. Not sure if all you upper East Tennessee fans realize, but this is a thread on Morristown West and Tennessee High. Not South. Not North. Not Morristown East. Not Elizabethton. It's MoWest and Tennessee High. Please leave the bickering about last week or last year alone. And as for looking ahead to the quarters or semis, no one should be looking past anyone right now. This is the playoffs, and anything can happen......except for Maryville losing.
  13. #8 Jones at QB is a dual threat. #2 Goforth is a power-type runner and #20 Fredricks is a fast back. #88 McKinney is a threat to score everytime the touches the ball. The Cantwell brothers (#18 Phillip and #28 Michael) each have more than 90 tackles, and #99 Bush is a Divison I caliber defensive end. #98 Smith has stepped up on the defensive line also. #23 Duncan (son of former UT kicker Alan Duncan) is the FG kicker & has a strong leg with a long of 40. #19 Hunsucker is the kickoff man, and he usually puts the ball inside the 5 if not in the endzone.
  14. No sweat Vike. Didn't mean anything negative by it. I have a lot of respect for your program. I'm looking forward to a good matchup Friday night. Never been to The Stone Castle for a game, so I'm looking forward to the atmosphere there. Should be fun.
  15. Don't let the 6-4 record for MoWest fool you. They are a tough, physical football team that has been hit with some bad luck. Three of those losses, the Trojans lost by TD or less, and they actually had Science Hill and Greeneville beat. West could easily be 8-2 or 9-1 with the only big loss being in the season opener against Catholic with the West third string QB playing all but 3 snaps due to injuries. The West defense has stepped up the last few games (other than the Greeneville game), and they seem to be hitting their stride. This game will be won on the line of scrimmage, and West has improved on both lines every week. In a low scoring contest, I see West moving on, barely. MoWest 17, Tennessee High 13
  16. I was told today that the time kept on the field was different from what was actually on the clock. Instead of delaying the game once again to have the clock changed, the time was kept on the field. The back judge said there should have been 4 seconds left based on his time on the field for the last play, thus enough time on the clock to spike the ball. That was straight from an official (not referee) that said what was discussed with both coaches on the field. As for the roughing call, I have no idea. Didn't see it because I was watching the ball like everyone else in the stadium.
  17. Canefan 72, you're an idiot. The MVP's of the game were Tyler Wills and Tyler Turner. The D-Line had a small impact on the game. They had pressure on Jones maybe three times during the game. Sure they stopped the belly runs, but that had to do also with the LBs cheating up to the line and helping to stop the run. As for your crack at Derwin and Brian, you should look in the mirror before throwing stones at them. They do a fine job, and the stories by Derwin and Matt Daniels in the paper did a great job of painting the picture of the game and the seniors from East finally getting a win over West. Get off your high horse and realize that your boy is not the star that you think he is.
  18. I agree completely with what you are saying there SCBear. Cocke County and Seymour are not good additions to the conference, but we're stuck because of where we are located. Don't sleep on Cherokee though. They are a young team this year, and they will be pretty good next year. Most of their starters this season are sophomores and juniors. But for Sevier County, if you guys play well in the conference and take care of business against Jeff County, you should be in no problem.
  19. If D-B and Morristown West played in Morristown, the crowd would have to get there at 5:30 because the Indian band would take up the entire visitor's stands. That band is amazing. 400-plus is outstanding. I would personally love to see the mathcup because I would like to personally attend a game and see the Tribe Nation and the band and the atmosphere at D-B.
  20. Morristown West could be in play if they are unable to get the games they want. From my understanding, West will be in a conference next with Jefferson County, Sevier County, Seymour, Cocke County, Cherokee and Morristown East. Greeneville is yet to decide whether they will play up because they will surely be placed in 4A, but they could play up to 5A. If they do, they will be in the conference with the rest of these, but I've been told that Greeneville will come off the West schedule if they are not part of the conference due to the wild card playoff deal. Let's say that Greeneville does not play up for this argument. West would have six conference games, and have four non-conference games to play with. Look for West to retain Science Hill on the schedule as it is a near 'done-deal', and they will open with either Fulton or Carter in a doubleheader with Morristown East next season. That leaves two games open, and the Trojans are looking to deal with teams in the upper East Tennessee area. The two most preferred teams for West would be Sullivan South and Tennessee High, but only one is likely (South). That leaves open the possibility of a D-B coming onto the schedule, but it's probably a longshot. That final game for West will likely be a Knoxville-area team (South-Doyle, William Blount, Powell or Halls). Also wouldn't disregard the possibility of playing Carter later in the year if they open with Fulton, and the schedule would flip the next year.
  21. Brandon 'Pee Wee' Fanney is a starting defensive end for Alabama this season. I'm glad to see him getting a chance after working his tail off the last couple of years after a year at Hargrave. Fanney had eight tackles and a sack against Tulane last Saturday, and he was all around the ball against Clemson. He's turned into a fantastic player that is representing Morristown West well.
  22. Cherokee had 21 points at halftime, thanks largely to a 52-yard touchdown run and a 95-yard kickoff return for a score. Cherokee hit three or four big plays to inflate their numbers, with one coming in the fourth quarter and West up 52-27. The Chiefs only had one really long, grind it out style drive. The others came from a big play in the passing game after the Chiefs lined up in the spread offense after falling behind big early. The game was close until West scored two quick TDs in the third quarter to build up a 45-21 lead. Minus the big plays, the score could have been 52-14.
  23. Maryville names the score in this one
  24. Isaac Kinley is a stud, and he made two huge plays last year that turned the game in the favor of the Toppers. But this is a new season, and the Trojans have already faced a running QB when they faced Jefferson County, and they won that game handily. I personally believe that SH is not as good a team as JCHS, but they have talent all over the field. It's going to be hard for any team to beat MoWest this season being one-dimensional, and the Toppers have not shown enough of a passing game in their two games this season to prove to me that they will do more than run the football with Kinley. Also, for those who think that MoWest is just slightly more athletic than Elizabethton, you don't know a lot about the Trojans. Obviously, MoWest is loaded with bigger players, but they have speed and moves as well. Sean Jones at QB for the Trojans has made a huge difference since his return, and the opening loss to Catholic is now a distant memory. I think the dual threat of J.J. Goforth and Terrell Fredericks coming out of the backfield for MoWest, along with the throwing of Jones to Tyrell McKinney, Tyler Swain, Laith Callahan, Tyler Brice and big tight end Jake Spivey will help the Trojans in this one. Also, the brother combo at linebacker of Phillip and Michael Cantwell will help slow (not stop) the Toppers rushing attack forcing them to throw more than they would like. And when the ball is in the air, look for Cedric White and Clark Vandergriff to make enough plays for MoWest to grab a tough, non-conference road win. MoWest 28, Science Hill 20
  25. I've not seen either team, but I happen to have good knowledge from those who have. On paper, East is the favorite, but games are not played on paper. Given that, McFall's injury will be tough for the Patriots to overcome, but maybe it works in JCHS favor this week with East not knowing what to prepare for at the QB spot. I really like the coaching job that Justin Anderson has done at JCHS, and I'm glad to see him doing well. He's a good guy. For East, I don't think they have played to their potential, and the coaching is probably to blame for that. In a coaching matchup, I would favor JCHS slightly over East (I'm just not sold on Hatcher being a great coach). If I was East, I would get the ball in Tee Howell's hands as much as possible, but his numbers won't be as big this week against JCHS like they were in the previous two games (with a great second half at Crockett). With that said, playing the game in Morristown could give East a slight advantage, but I think JCHS will be anxious to avoid the Hamblen County sweep in this one. Probably wouldn't hurt for JCHS to try a passing game against East, who had their secondary and linebackers exposed by the quick passing game against Karns where they got plenty of balls to the running backs. JCHS 17, East 14
