  1. That is wrong. If CBHS loses they finish 4th and host McCallie. BA would be 2 and MUS would 3.
  2. MUS has a very young team this year. They are typical of a young team in that they play well one week and not so well the next week. They have a good passing game but a real young defense. Depending on which team shows up it could be interesting or get real ugly.
  3. One reason that the teams went to this format of only 4 games counting is that they were trying to get away from traveling from one end of the state to another. In the old format the Memphis and Chat teams had to make a trip to the other end of the state each year now they only make it once every 2 years excluding playoffs. That is a 6 or 7 hour trip that takes it toll on the teams and fans.
  4. WMC 79 out of Memphis has a scoreboard show every Friday night.

Christian Brothers is undefeated and they play ECS today. Briarcrest is 3rd.
  6. CoachSH, you didn't answer my questions from my previous post. Could you please address them.
  7. CoachSh, what do you mean by letting the players decide the game? I hear that line all of the time from people in the stands and would really like to know your definition. Does it mean that you don't call a foul when there is one or do you let them just run up and down the floor and the last team standing wins. By watching tape you decide which guys will let you play and which ones won't and I am sure you guys call the assigning person for you league and tell them that you want certain guys and don't want others. Correct? As for the comment on ALL high school refs want to be college refs I think you are way off. I know alot of the guys who worked the state and you would be surprised that most of them are college officials. So that crap about having a chip on there shoulder doesn't hold water. You make this evaluation process sound so simple. In your area it might be a little easier since you don't have that many schools. How about in Memphis where they service 52 high schools? Some of the officials don't even make it to all of the schools during the year. How would they be rated by the coaches? Would that be fair to the coaches and the officials? What 2 calls made a six point swing? I saw all of the games and only remember the ejection of the Hamilton coach as being a six point difference. Is that what you are talking about?
  8. CoachSH, you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. The officials are evaluated throughout the year and even at the state tournament. Have you ever heard of a guy named Gene Menees. He sits at the table and watches and evaluates each official during each game. Then the next morning the officials meet with him and he discusses what he has seen the day before. Then they pick the 12 guys to work the finals in each division and have the remaining 2 guys work the table. As far as supervisors go the guys in Memphis are just the opposite of what you claim. They are very diligent in pointing out things official did wrong and what they need to work on in future games. Please tell me how as a coach you would evaluate officials? I would like to know since you say supervisors don't.
  9. Did you know that basketball is the only sport where officials are required to go to camp. I think once every three years is appropiate since the camp costs about $200. The mechanics change only every two years so three is a good number. Remember as a coach that no matter how many camps or meetings a person goes to there are some officials that will never get better or who don't care. Those are the ones I would like to weed out. They are the ones that give officials a bad rep. I am sure all of the officials at the state care about what they did or they wouldn't be there in the first place. It works the same way in coaching and for players. There are some coaches out there that will never get better and the same for players. Some coaches are there just for the paycheck and some players are just there to be there. I just can't see how coaches can rate officials without a bias coming into account. There will always be calls that you don't agree with and that will always be a determining factor in how you rate an official even if it is subconsciously. I have rated football officials and have caught myself thinking about what happened in a game when I saw the name of an official on the list. It is human instinct. How would you keep it out of the ratings?
  10. LargeK9, it seems to me that you want it like they have it in Kentucky where the coach gets his own officials to call his home games. Then you would have a say. But I bet you wouldn't want to go on the road. Do the refs know that you scratch them in your association? In the association in Memphis, they are not told who has scratched them and who hasn't. Are you also saying that the officials don't try to better themselves? That is incorrect because they attend at least 5 local meetings each year and are required to go to camp in the summer once every three years so they can work post-season games. What are you classifying as ref mistakes? Did they miss a rule or did they make a judgment call that you disagreed with. If they miss a rule then you have a beef but if it is judgment then you have no beef. The best miss calls and no one feels worse than they do but I am sure you know that already.
  11. Knightcourt the officials are not employees of the schools. They are independent contracters. They are evaluated throughout the year by their supervisors. The supervisors then nominate officials to the state office for the state tournament. The state then comes and watches the officials and then they decide who to take to the tournament. It is not done on length of service. It is done on high school mechanics, judgment, and how they control a game. From your post, I assume you are a coach. How would you evaluate officials? Have you ever called a game? Do you know the mechanics etc so that you could evaluate?
  12. Spirit07 you didn't answer the question. Can you get the ball on the floor? Can you hold it up and then pass it? Can you get up with it? Can you dive on the floor then slide with the ball? What is the rule?
  13. Acoachwife, what calls did the refs miss that a ten year old could have made? I saw the game and guess you might be talking about the so-called lack of traveling calls when the Middleton guys dove on the ground for loose ball. If this is so could you tell me what the rule is for traveling. I also heard #44 yell at the refs as they left the floor that "you stink". That showed alot of class on Adamsville's part.
  14. Which players were hurt in the previous MUS game?
  15. The CBHS qb will play. He received a slight concussion last week against MUS. He is not a big kid but he makes plays.
