  1. I don't know of any public school with turf paid for by the school system. That is not likely to happen. Our indoor practice facility was paid for by boosters (close to $1 mil). Our field house was paid for by boosters. The new visitors stands were paid for by the school system. Of course...when we did that...Gordonsville got them also. They did need new bleachers because their homeside was condemned. They also got an indoor baseball/softball facility. When you are winning especially...it is beneficial to expand. A lot of SC fans used to stay at home when they played at the U because there is no place to sit. The expansion there would pay for itself.
  2. It was ok until the last few years. The U never filled their home side...and it is small. The visitors side has never been large enough for a mediocre crowd. It didn't matter what class they were in. The layout of the fields is great. Stadiums can be expanded though. They have plenty of room to do so. The Monterey thing is worse. Not putting stands on the visitors side due to wetlands is ridiculous...although there are some pretty nice stadiums with stands only on one side. As far as school size...that is a much deeper problem. Most counties are not going to over build by very much due to limited resources.
  3. DC 803...U 740...GC 708...Seq...691...CC 618...YAI 612...Smi...599. That is what they have on their tssaa pages. That is probably the most recent count.
  4. How's that? You lost me. How did they not build for the future? What difference does their athletic class make?
  5. Actually the U is the 2nd largest in the region right behind DC. Smith County is the smallest. The U was sometimes one of the largest in their district/region when in a lower class. Sometimes they were one of the smallest. And yes...they can now draw from a much larger pool than any other region school.
  6. They can pull from all of Putnam County...which has over 73,000 people. You always want to bring up size of schools and population base. The U is right at the top in both in the region.
  7. Going to go out on a limb and say the U is better than most think. I will say 26-0 the U.
  8. I am sure Monterey is excited to finally play a home game. Somebody post pictures.
  9. He never ran it up on anyone while at SC. He had numerous chances and incentive to do so.
  10. Maynord will take it easy on his school if he can. He is good friends with LA coaches. If they run it up...it won't be on purpose.
  11. It will be 6 classes. All in their own regions...not a split for playoffs. No z plan
  12. They were in the region with Catholic.,.A-E...and Fulton that year. They were probably better the year before that when they were in our region.
  13. I don't think it will be toward Chatt. It will likely be similar as before the 32. It is fun to play great teams. It makes you better as it did LA in their title year. It was fun in our region when we had LA...Portland...Trousdale. There were no easy games.
  14. They are going back to even classes. That will likely take Cookeville away from boro region
  15. You are comparing the great U with Mt. Pleasant & Eagleville? Lol I guess if Cookeville O was as good as last year...they would have had 600 yds instead of 400. They only played less than 3 quarters due to a running clock. Cookeville had a few penalties that will be cleaned up. Cookeville's region is tough enough. It doesn't hurt to have a couple of easy games to start the season. It is difficult to hold anyone to 0 total yards. The U is not that bad. Cookeville is much faster than last year on offense and defense.
  16. Lebanon will likely be in their region next year. The U & LA wanted to play Cookeville. I don't think they will play next year.
  17. Maynord was over 10 years after Rankin. Lol There were 2 coaches inbetween. The program was in dismal shape.
  18. Freshmen? You wanna talk about freshmen...freshmen....lol
  19. Yeah...Maynord only won 9-10 games a year over 14 years at SC. He had 2 semis and a few quarters appearances. Several region or district titles. SC's facilities were awful when he came there. SC usually had close to if not the smallest enrollment in their region or district in all of those years. They rarely finished lower than 2nd in the region. Herrin has done a good job at the U. I would take Maynord over him anytime.
  20. It certainly will make them have a chance to be better.
  21. Enrollment is one of the biggest factors in public schools. If you have over 1400 or 1500...it is less of a factor. That is why there are 6 public classes. There are a few lower enrollment schools that could compete...but rarely any that would win a 6a title. Maryville is really the only exception.
  22. Yeah...there are 8 classes just for the heck of it...right?
  23. Jamborees really don't mean much. You want to be predictable.
  24. I think Cookeville has the best defense they have had under Maynord. It is no surprise they have improved every year. Their offense could be better than last year even with the loss of Johnson & Angel. It will still be tough to beat the 'Boro teams. I really don't know how good the U is. They had better be a lot better than last year just to stay in this game. I don't think Cookeville will come out flat this time. The U can thank their DC for that.
