  1. Bigchief you probably know me as well. I remember that injury very well Randy. I had to run all the way to the cafeteria to get you some ice. Purvis will be ok and so will MJ. 5. In the the immortal words of Yogi Bera, "It's de ja vu all over again!" Lets see, since my freshman year at MCHS back in the 1981 season (Ouch, I am getting old!), there has been nine head coaches at Macon County. NINE head coaches in 27 season. The life expectancy of a MCHS head football coach is THREE years. This by no means I am knocking any of these coaches. I consider all of them a good friend of mine. Anyone that knows anything about coaching knows that you cannot build a consistent, winning program in three years. One head coach every three years doesn't work. Macon County is prime example of that. Look at all of the programs that have won consistently over the years. How long have their coaches been there? How many head coaches have been in their program over the last 20 plus years? I still bleed blue and white. I pull for the Tigers every game unless I am facing them. Good Luck to everyone and hello to all of my buddies back home. Juan Clariday, MCHS Class of '85.
  6. Sequatchie County is looking to play a game home or away on Tuesday April 29th. If interested please call Juan Clariday at 931-636-4301 or 423-949-2154.
  7. My prayers are out for all my native Macon Countians, hopefully there will not be anymore casualties and let the healing start. Macon County has always been a strong-willed community, it will take time but Macon County will bounce back a stronger & closer community. I was able to contact my family and everybody is ok. If anybody can give me an update, I sure appreciate it. Juan Clariday MCHS class of 1985
  8. Hey 1 Buck 2! What's going on up home? Macon is no different from any other place, there is always parents that meddles, coaches who might cross the line every once in a while, cliques that conspire to do one thing or another. It happens at lot of places. The bottom line is that let the coaches coach, hopefully they will motivate the kids in the right way but sometimes coaches may have to use negative criticism to get a player to perform to his/her abilities as long as the coach does not cross the line and make it a personal vendetta and say something that he shouldn't. The coaches spend more time with the players more than his own kids (I am talking from experience here) they know who is doing what. Parents should support the players and coaches but if they feel something is wrong, come talk to the coach in a civilized manner, set up an appointment and talk to the coach. What's said in the office stays in the office. Don't come racing down the field after a game or wait for him in the parking lot as he is getting into his car (this happened to me after the biggest win of our season and I couldn't even celebrate the win for 5 minutes) and make it a public spectacle. I guarantee you that more can be settled if an appointment is made and the differences are ironed out. Finally, the game is for the kids, everybody should do what they can to make it the best experience possible for them. Let the players play, let the coaches coach, and the parents/fans support the team. Good Luck the rest of year to my old school!
  9. Sequatchie Co. is looking for a game for Tuesday May 1. If interested contact Juan Clariday at 931-636-4301 or 423-949-2154.
  10. LOL ..... Thanks Binns!. It's tempting but I think I'll stick around a while. What a memorable first game. A 10-0 win with my pitcher pitching a perfect game. Bud Christy had 10 K's in his perfect game victory.
  11. LOL. Tell him we'll meet @ Tucker's Gap and then go over to CU to play 2.
  12. Sequatchie County is looking for a scrimmage on Thursday (3-8-07). If interested, contact Juan Clariday at 931-636-4301 or 423-949-2154.
  13. According to my calculations, 23 number two seeds won last night. There are two AA games to be played today. Anderson Co. vs. Gibbs and Marshall Co. vs. David Lipscomb. Break down by classes: 5 number two seeds won in Class A, 8 number two seeds won in Class AA, and 10 number two seeds won in Class AAA. On paper they may be considered upsets, if you go by seeding. However, in reality, some of those games probably were not upsets. Hey Binns, I still heard that ball hit the batter's foot.
  14. OK, I'll add my $0.02 worth in this great topic. Here is my baker's dozen. 1. Bull Durham (has some of the best movie quotes ever, Meat.) 2. Remember the Titans (Ain't no mountain high, ain't no valley low.....) 3. Miracle (brings back a lot of memories, I was 13 when they won the gold.) 4. Brian's Song (the origninal and tell me, who did not cry at the end). 5. Long Gone (Stud Cantrell, Joe Louis Brown, Jamie Don Weeks) 6. 61* (The movie was actually shot at the old Tiger Stadium in Detroit.) 7. The Pistol (Can't forget Pistol Pete). 8. The Sandlot (I wish I'd had the guts to kiss the lifeguard like Squints did). 9. Hoosiers (3, 2, 1, ......, in-and-out.) 10. Slapshot (Let's play some old time hockey!) 11. Major League (The first one was the best!) 12. Field of Dreams (Build it and he will come.) 13. Something for Joey (The story of Penn State Heisman Trophy winner John Cappiletti and his brother's fight with luekemia. Who did not cry when they heard Cappy's speech when he won the Heisman?) Honorable mention: Cutting Edge, Vision Quest, Caddyshack, The Natural, The Juction Boys, Rudy, and Victory.
  15. Marion beats Grundy 3-1. Grundy eliminated. Hixson leads Marion 5-3 top of the 4th, lightning delay.

  18. My plan would be shotdown by the TSSAA in a heartbeat but I think this might work. I base it on the current NCAA format. 1. The regular season don't mean much any more just for seeding purposes in the district tournament. My first step would be eliminating the district tournaments. 2. Instead, take the top three teams in the regular season and play a six-team double elimination regional tournament like the NCAA use to do. That puts more importance on the regular season. The site will be rotated like it has been. Even district, even year. Odd district, odd year. Talk about attendance and gate money, the T$$AA should seriously consider it. It would be an incredible atmosphere for these tourneys. 3. The winner and runner-up of these regionals go on to play in the Super Regional (same as the current sectional) and play a 2-out of-3 Series. The winner goes to Spring Fling. Under this plan, the one pitcher wonders would have a harder time advancing. The team with the deeper pitching staff would more than likely advance. The better team would go on. But, that doesn't eliminate the possibility of upsets. Let's hear from you. What do you think about this plan?
  19. Grundy County needs a couple of games next week. Looking for games on Monday 5/2, Tuesday 5/3, and Wednesday 5/3. Grundy has clinched the regular season title and due to some cancellations are not scheduled to play again until Saturday 5/7. We will travel to your place, we just want to play ball. If anybody is interested call Juan Clariday 931-692-5400 (school), 931-467-5826 (home), or 931-636-4301 (cell). My e-mail is Juanclariday@aol.com Thanks.
  20. Del, Our field was too wet and Bledsoe said their field was fine. So, we went up to Pikeville again. We defeated Bledsoe 21-0 again. Mychaell Seagroves went the distance for the win. He allowed two hits, walked one, and had nine strikeouts. Offensively - Justin Cannon 1-for-3 (2 runs scored), Sitz 2-for-2 (2 doubles, 3 runs, 1 rbi), Fults 2-for-3 (one home run, 3 runs, and 4 rbi), Melton 0-for-2 (got beaned twice, 1 run), Willoughby 1-for-4(1 run, 2 rbi), M. Brewer 2-for-4 (3 runs), T. Caldwell 3-for-4 (3 runs), K. Christian 3-for-4 (3 runs, 4 rbi), and Tyler Campbell 1-for-2 (1 run, 2 rbi). Grundy plays Whitwell tomorrow at home. JV @ 4 pm, Varsity @ 6 pm. JC (Melton also had 36 L.A.W.'s )
  21. Sorry Del, I was trying to talk to you, my wife and watch Vandy's miraculous play at the end of the NIT game, I overlooked Melton. I know, I know, "How could I overlook Jeremy!" Hey today's game was rained out and rescheduled for tomorrow at 5 pm. JC (Who thinks that Melton actually had 50 L.A.W.'s and 25 "Don't be shy!" 's).
  22. This is an important game for both teams because overall record comes into play in a three-way tie breaker. I'm not for sure how Coffee Co. is standing in their region but their overall record could be a tie-breaker. But for Grundy, this game is huge. For example: If McMinn Central beats Howard, Walker Valley beats Sequoyah, and Grundy beats McMinn Central, WV, McMinn Centrral, and GC will have a 3-1 region record. Head-to-head comes first - WV beat GC, McMinn Central beat WV, GC must beat McM for this scenario to happen. That would cancel out head-to-head. Then, overall record comes into play. McMinn Central controls their own destiny: win out and they win the region. WV and GC must win out to have a shot at the region title. Sequoyah and Howard are capable of spoiling those plans. The non-region games become crucial. GC has a tough non-region schedule with Coffee Co & Whitwell plus McMinn Central. WV has Warren Co., Sequoyah, Cleveland, and Sequatchie Co. McMinn Central looks like they have an easier non-region schedule as they have Union Co. and Lookout Valley plus they have Howard and Grundy left on their region schedule. It's possible that all three teams end up 5-5, THEN WHAT? So, it looks like the playoffs start now in Region 3-3A.
  23. CUMBERLAND BULLDOGS 2004 NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!! CU defeats Oklahoma City 10-3. Former Trousdale Co. star Craig Moreland with a 3-run blast to put the game away! As a former CU Basseball alumni, I can not put into words what this means to me and all of the players that has played baseball at CU through the years. Coach Hunt is a class act. He really deserves the title. He and I are very close and I could not be any happier for him. My emotions are so high right now. I am gonna find my old jersey, hat and my 1993 world series ring and wear them tomorrow night in my summer class at MTSU. WAY TO GO 'DAWGS!!!!!!!! On a more personal note: What a year in baseball it has been for me. I coach at Grundy County and we made the state tournament, finishing fourth with a 33-9 record. Now, CU is the 2004 National Champs! 2004 will be a year that I'll always remember. Thanks to my Grundy players for making this a special year for me. Thank you Coach Hunt for making me the coach and man that I am today. Without your support and "tough love", I wouldn't be the person I am today. I can't wait to get a 2004 National Championship T-Shirt. LOL!!!
