  1. C'mon man get over your superiority or inferiority, whichever it is, with Memphis. You always attach a to the comments, but I, for one, don't get it. Is it some inside joke that we Memphians are supposed to secretly understand? Am I supposed to respond to you that I want you to merge with Kentucky? Help me here.
  2. My predictions Briarcrest 63 Webb 36 ECS 60 Brentwood Academy 28 Harpeth Hall 72 Baylor 34 Father Ryan 58 SBEC 45
  3. If you don't like the freedom that allows her to make her silent protest, even if you disagree with her, than it seems to me that you're living in the wrong country. Instead of screaming at her to "get out if you don't like it", be thankful that we can protest, see the irony in what she's doing, get mad at her, laugh at her, or wish she could make her point in another way if you agree with her. I've found that sometimes it's best to just ignore silly behavior, no attention is drawn to it, and it loses its ability to affect us.
  4. I'm not saying it's right, but it is funny that the east Tennesseers now are going to know what it feels like to have to travel for the state meet. Here in the West we've been complaining for years. The kids love the chance to see somewhere new though, and I'll miss the excitement of getting to "go" to the state meet. I feel a bit sorrier for the northeasterners though, but, if you're going to make a 5 hr. journey to Nashville, just make it 8 and come on to Memphis. We really are excited here to show off all the great facilities that have been built over the past 10 years, and I think the kids will have fun being here. I'm glad it's finally our turn.
  5. Region 8 is getting much better. I'm not ready to say it's tougher than region 4, but it's not far. Craigmont AND Hamilton gone before regions. Who would have thunk!
  6. A team will beat a good player MOST days not anyday.
  7. I saw the irony and couldn't resist. It was meant to be in good fun. I hope you took it that way.
  8. Hey MAYFLOWER, For me misspelled words/names ARE bothersome! As another English teacher, subject/verb agreement is my pet peeve.
  9. She played at Hamilton as a freshman and sophomore. she then moved within the Melrose boundaries for her Jr. and Sr. years.
  10. Ashley Shields scored 49 points last night though her team was defeated in the 16AAA final 75-62 by the East Mustangs. East got balanced scoring and played with intensity as they avenged two previos defeats to Melrose.
  11. They do have private schools in Mississippi, but Mississippi has complete division between public and private so their competition would be from between one hour and three hours away every game. By joining D2 West they they are 5 minutes from Bishop Byrne and 20 minutes from 10 other region opponents. Many of the kids that go to the school live in Tennessee, and the school itself is just over the border.
  12. I for one am glad they are in the division because they add depth, competitiveness, and outstanding athletes to the D2 region. They are small but good. D2 West has 14 teams in the region as opposed to D2 East which has 5 and D2 Middle with 7. As long as other private schools won't join D2, I'm glad they're here.
  13. Retard to me is funnier than offensive, but if it offends you, I sure won't use it in the future. [Edited by brownhut on 3-1-03 6:31P]
  14. 25-5 SBEC (Southern Baptist Educational Center) out of Southaven, Mississippi defeated Hutchison School today in Div. 2 West Regionals to capture 3rd place and advance to the D2 sectionals next week. Has any other non-Tennessee team advanced in state basketball play? I need help from some history buffs.
  15. Congratulations Craigmont on a great year with a very young team. District 16 AAA has the toughest quaterfinal elimination games in the state, so there is nothing to hang your heads about.
  16. Maybe you could explain what part you think is "ludicrous" and give us some reasons why your opinion differs. The opinions are old, but I think all those teams are still very good.
  17. My opinion D2 West Girls Gresh Gorman - SBEC Julie Martin - ECS Jada Mincy - Briarcrest Sara Hester - Hutchison Stephanie Williams - ECS It's a big line-up, but I feel these are the top 5. Any arguments??
  18. Yeah, goodluck! But really, y'all have such an EASY route to get to sectionals. One elimination game against a cupcake before the semi's. Then in the East, don't they all make it to the semi's? Here in Mempho, the round of 16 is pretty easy unless someone is playing out of their mind, then everyone plays a quarterfinal elimination game that's hyped and competetive. (Just ask ECS against St. Agnes)
  19. Actually against Hutchison it hasn't been 50/50, but zero for two.
  20. Please let me know if this isn't correct Seedings are divided into Large (L) and Small (S) school finishes in the region Top Half ECS L1 - bye Tipton-Rosemark S3 vs. St. Agnes L6 Hutchison L3 vs. Lausanne S6 Bishop Byrne S2 vs. Immaculate Conception L7 Bottom Half SBEC S1 - bye Harding L4 vs St. Mary's S5 First Assembly S4 vs. St. Benedict L5 Briarcrest L2 vs. Catholic S7 [Edited by brownhut on 2-20-03 2:24P]
  21. Once again statements concerning the past trying to validate an assumption about now. But we'll see soon enough. By the way, I don't get the "homie" and "Memfis" stuff. I'd feel bad for you if someone mistook it for some sort of racial reference. I can see how it could be viewed that way.
  22. Once again, no reasoning, no explanations, just answers like "no way" and "yeah, right." I'm glad your schools are good at basketball because logic and debate are definitely not your strengths.
  23. Yeah, it's fun to talk of the past, but it really has no bearing on teams right now. I don't think anyone has insinuated that NW Tenn. teams stink, are overrated, or haven't been good in years past. But to imply that current Craigmont or East teams aren't awesome just because their grandmothers or mothers don't have rings on their fingers isn't logical.
