    JV Games

    Oak Ridge - 18 Rhea County - 0
  2. Yes, stopping Booker and Gulmire is easier said than done. Booker is bigger this year, he is playing at about 185. The biggest difference this year is that he is much harder to bring down than last year. I have yet to see anyone tackle him one-on-one. However, I feel that the key to our success is whether we can get our passing game on track. Probably the same goes the other way for DB whether on not they can run the ball. While this game is a key one, it seems to me that both teams are still maturing and will be much better come playoff time. Looking forward to the game, not looking forward to the bleachers or the mile-long hike to the bathroom.
  3. Well, AJ was a 3-A semi-finalist last year. Normally very competitive in small town Illinois football, which is to say they are going to get killed. However, it would be fun to see my boys from S. Illinois have a good showing.
  4. Can any of you Brentwood Academy people give some background as to how this game got scheduled? I was born there and grew up about 25 miles away in Marion.
  5. It was not this close. Our first-unit defense played very well. I think Bradley had 2 first downs in the first half, one of which we gave on a off-sides penalty. I don't think they gave up more than 50 yards total offensive. Our offensive played well at first, but got very sloppy after getting up 21-0. Cory and Spencer played well all game. Our quarterback needs to be more consistent, but more game time should improve that. I like the way we came out and played at first, but we need to play with more focus. Bradley fought hard almost all of the game but was completely overmatched. There is much work to be done to prepare for DB, but it should be quite a defensive battle.
  6. I like how our Cats have progressed so far, I'm picking Oak Ridge 35-0. What say the rest of you?
  7. The Cats are going to hold up just fine thank you. They played exactly the kind of game you would want them to play this past friday night. They came out sharp and just dominated Clinton. I think you will see improvement every week and more evidence that Oak Ridge is back on top.
  8. Scott should be a good one for our team. With experience, he should get better in a hurry. If you come to the game tonight you can see for yourself. I think everyone realizes that we have to have balance to win, even though with the backfield tandem that we have, it would be tempting to run most of time. However, I am ready to see some teams burned that load up in the box to try to stop the run.
  9. Clinton vs. Oak Ridge here. Good old-fashioned hate going on here, great rivalry even though OR rules the series.
  10. Cavcav, Several midwestern states use different classifications for different sports. Illinois for years only had 2 classes for basketball. The whole post-season was single elimination. However, I think there should be 4 classes in football, 5 is too many. But...back to the thread, only in TN do we have this discussion. There is no good reason why Public and Privates shouldn't play each other. Let the Super-Seven be 5-A. Sometimes they will win, sometimes they won't, but one thing is for sure, there will be better football in this state.
  11. Does he play football??
  12. Yes, and just because a family moves so their athlete can play in a certain school doesn't mean they were recruited. But, it does make enforcement of the recruiting rules much more difficult.
  13. Take a look at this link and see the wave of the future when it comes to school choice. Ocala Star Banner This is an excellent article describing the experience of the Marion County, FL school system handling summer transfers.
  14. MBA players and fans, Big Congradulations from this new TN resident. This was a big night for TN high school football.
  15. Rebelron, You're already making me feel better. Yes, I like the way we have improved over fall practice. We looked very sharp on offensive against Bearden. Still looking for improvement in our pass coverage, but that will come in time. Good luck again to the Rebs, hope McCord can get back to 100%. We're still going to stomp the Dragons!
  16. Oldcat, you must not have been to the Bearden scrimmage. All I am going to say about that. Clinton game... This is the game where the Cats must set the tone for the season. It is a given that the Dragons will come fired up to play. We need to be just as fired up and play like champions. If our guys do that it's 49-0 Oak Ridge. ...Just waiting to hear from the Clinton fans. heheh
  17. Probably because the smaller schools don't want it.
  18. Wow Catwatch! Those are strong words for such an old coot. Welcome to the thread. TnBreakers pretty much sums up my feelings as well. What is amazing is I have been waiting for several days to discuss the Bearden scrimmage and all we have is your intelligent comments. Let's get behind the team and cheer them on to state!
  19. Yes, I thought you all came out a little flat, but I try to refrain from being too negative, being a scrimmage and all. I do wish you all the best this season, of course not when you play us! :justwrestle: Thanks for the kind words about the Cats. We should go a long way this year, if we pull together and play to our potential. I hope you all can beat the injury bug as well. I was the guy running the box on the chain gang.
  20. Ok, Here are my impressions from the chain gang perspective. We were a lot crisper in our execution of the offensive. The blocking was better, both quarterbacks carried out their fakes very well. Cory and Spencer ran very strong. First drive was almost all passing with Booker catching the touchdown on a short pass from McMahon. Next score was all run with MaMahon scoring on a keeper from 11 yards out. Score was 14-0 at half. Next half was more mixed on the play calling with Spencer Gulmire scoring from 10 yards out. Later, David Thompson scored from 55 yards as the 2nd unit played in the 4th quarter. Late in the 4th quarter we had 2 quick scores from Daniel Johnson and #46 (whose name I don't have with me here) Defensively, Bearden could do nothing against the Cats defense. The only score was a field goal late in the 4th quarter against our 2nd and 3rd stringers. Overall, it was a good scrimmage. We made good improvements from last week. Still, there is work to do with both our QBs. I thought Scott looked stronger overall, but Cody had some incredible scrambles. The QB situation is probably still not settled. Our pass defense still needs more improvement. This week we couldn't stay onsides on defense which was the main reason that we didn't score more in the first half. It was good to see more balance in the offense this week. Of course Maryville's pass defense had a lot to do with last weeks. But, we need the passing threat to keep other teams honest.
  21. It's alive, It's Alive, IT'S ALIVE!! JPATS is back!! Can't wait to see Jeff County in the playoffs.
  22. Sorry ToHot, Oak Ridge put up 7 TDs on SD's defense. You're hearing wrong.

    Oak Ridge QB

Hey Old Cat, Did you see the scrimmage tonight?
  24. Ok Willy, here is the score 41-3, Oak Ridge. I'll comment later, but we looked sharp for the most part. Good scrimmage for us.
