  1. Wow... this would be big news. Coach Pratt is really held in high regards around this community, and not just for what he has done with the football program. He has really invested in the community and made a big difference in a lot of young student-athletes' lives. Although... everyone knows how tough and demanding head coaches have. I completely understand his stepping down if this is truly the case to take on the role of assistant superintendent. In that position he would continue to make a big difference in the Crockett County community and, at the same time, have much more time to spend with his family. That being said... I don't know if this is anything more than a rumor someone has started on the message boards. I wold suggest people not speculate too much.
  2. This should be a GREAT game. Some things to think about: Matchups: The best offense in region 7AAA (Crockett) is up against the best defense (Covington)...Crockett County is averaging over 40 points per game while Covington is only giving up a little more than a TD per game. Covington's performance against Dyersburg and Ripley is scary. Those are two quality programs that were held to 9 points total. Is it correct that Ripley only amounted to 26 yards of total offense last week? History: Crockett County has never won in Covington. It's no secret that Crockett County plays much better in Cavalier Stadium than they do on the road; in fact the Cavaliers only win over Covington (ever) was in Alamo in the 2001 state-semifinal game. The Cavaliers won 12-9. The Cavaliers have played in Covington three times: In 1991 Covington won 33-0. In '98 the Charges won 30-0, and last year in the quarterfinals Covington won 25-7. Crockett County is 1-6 against Covington all-time. The revenge factor: Covington beat Crockett County twice last year. So there will be a little extra motivation when it comes to practice this week. I would make a prediction, but...I don't make predictions! I REALLY wish I could make it to this game, but alas....I will be in Knoxville, because on Saturday I will be sitting on the 50 yard line, in the front row as Tennessee beats the tar out of the Crimson Tide. Look for me on TV guys....I'll be all "painted up"!
  3. Well, I am finally going to be able to make to see the Cavaliers play this year. Living and working in Knoxville, I do not have many opportunities to do so and I'm pretty pumped about a great matchup between the Tigers and Crockett. I know the coaching staff of the Cavaliers has been preaching all season long (as a matter of fact, since the Cavaliers started winning back in '97) that ANY team can be beat on any given night. This should be a great game between two solid programs. Good luck to both teams and safe travels to all of the people going to and from game.
  4. There are some pretty darn good websites for some of the Tennessee high school teams...and while I am definitely a very critical person when it comes to design, ease of use, and functionality on websites...I think there are some that stand out as "really good" websites. I also love to see high quality photos on websites....which can be done efficiently. Of all the websites mentioned on this forum I would rank them like this: 1. Farragut 2. Blackman 3. Hixson 4. Riverdale 5. White House 6. Crockett County Of course...I run the website for Crockett County. It does not have as much content as I would like, but I think it is well laid out and easy to use. Of course, it is hard to get content on the site while taking college classes 350 miles away. Some of the other sites mentioned do have more "stuff" on them, but they are not easy to navigate. Not to say they are bad but I jsut think these sites stand out above some of the others. I REALLY like Farragut's site! Some things I don't like (just personal taste, but many professional people would tell you the same thing): 1. Music....should NOT be loaded and played automatically ont he homepage. It distracts many of the people that will visit your website. Instead of looking for a way to turn it off, they just leave. 2. KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)...see Google.com. There is a way to provide a lot of information without putting 20,000 links on one single page. The viewer is overwhelmed. 3. Good photos...do not use grainy, low res pictures. But also do not use high res pictures (remember 72 dpi is reccomended for web viewing). Either use good pictures or no pictures at all. People see pictures first! 4. Interactivity...use some flash buttons and some element of Java script to entertain the viewer. I know I always have fun with flash menus just rolling my mouse back and forth. 5. MOST IMPORTANT!!! Keep your site updated...this keeps them coming back. I don't know why I decided to type all of this...guess I'm just an internet dork, but maybe this will help someone with their site. I know the first few tries I took with CrockettFootball.com were well below what I consider my "standards" right now...and there is always room to improve. I know I learn something new everyday!
  5. Actually, this was the thrid meeting of these two teams. They met twice already in 1991 and 1992. If anyone is familiar with Crockett County football they won't be surprised that the Cavaliers lost both of those games by a combined score of 13-63. A lot has changed in Alamo since the "dark days" of Cavalier football however and the boys proved it tonight. The Cavaliers win homecoming for the ninth consecutive season. 21-0. Wow! Even I was not expecting the Cavaliers to post a score like this. Being removed from going to the games (I'm a super senior at UT Knoxville), I was very excited to get the message from my Mom that the Cavaliers pulled out a huge win that goes a long way to securing a playoff berth. With Manassas next week and Dyer Co. the week after I look for the Cavaliers to try to rest and heal up a lot of players before finishing the season with Covington and Haywood. It should be exciting down the stretch, especially with the Obion upset tonight! GO CAVS! and go vols too!
  6. Acutally craigcoc (you are mistaken)...Crockett Co. leads the all-time series, by quite a bit. Southside has only beaten Crockett Co. twice. Crockett won in '97 on a last minute kick by Detrick Price, in '98 Crockett won on the legs of Dante Brown and Jonathan Cook. Southside came back from a halftime deficit to beat Crockett Co. in '99 (that was Jabari Greer's senior season), and everyone remembers 2000 when Crockett Co. beat T.J. Moseley and company with a Samuel Ronk pass to Jon Pitts as time expired. In 2001 Crockett Co. defeated SS twice, once in the playoffs. Crockett was also victorious in '02 and '03. Southside did win this year in the regular season 21-0. If I am correct, and I believe I am...the series stands at 7-2 in Crockett County's favor. Actually craigcoc, I am a little disappointed that you forgot about the 2000 game. Probably the most exciting game ever played at Cavalier Stadium. In the words of Daryl Worley..."Have you forgotten?" Sorry man...but I had to correct the mistake. I will admit though, that despite Crockett's supremacy in the series...these two teams HAVE delevoped quite a rivalry. It should be a great matchup for the second round of the palyoffs. BTW...Crockett Co. is 2-2 when Southside is the home team. Looking forward to a great game this Friday! My prediction later this week.
  7. It is now halftime.... Crockett leads McNairy 11-0.
  8. Crockett Co. 11 McNairy 0 start of 2nd Q listen live on WCTA radio - www.crockettfootball.com
  9. Hey don't forget the 2000 season. I think a Browder was taking the snaps then too, and the Cavaliers came to McNairy and went home with a 26-0 victory. It was a dominating performance (and the first time Crockett County ever beat the Bobcats). The all-time series stands at 3-6 in favor of the Bobcats. Don't expect any dominating performances tonight though...it will be a tough one. Look for the McNairy passing attack and the Cavalier kicking game to play important roles. Crockett County 27 - McNairy 21
  10. I'm a student at UT Knoxville right now and am looking for a football team next year that could use a volunteer coach to help with a freshman or middle-school team next year or even this spring. I'm planning on becoming a teacher once I get out of school and would love to be able to get a job as an assistant on a football team as well. But right now I thought it would be good to be able to get some experience with kids and maybe be able to help some people out that are need of it. I played in middle school and high school at Crockett County and know played mostly on the offensive/defensive line but I'm a quick learner and can help out anywhere. Hopefully, I can find someone in the Knoxville area, but I could drive a little ways if I had too... ...If anyone knows someone I can call or can help, it would be appreciated. Thanks.
  11. I hear a lot of talk every season about how Earl Nall and the other ratings out there aren't very accurate and how so and so team should be ranked higher...well, Earl is brave every year and posts his final ratings before the playoffs start...let's examine the results....... Div II-A 1. SBEC (won state title) 3. Bishop Byrne (state runner-up) Div II-AA 1. BGA (won state title) 2. Knox Catholic (state runner-up) Div II-AAA 1. Brentwood Academy (state runner-up) 2. MBA (won state title) Div I-A 3. DCA 5. Boyd-Buchanan Div I-AA 2. David Lipscomb 3. Huntingdon Div I-AAA 2. Fulton 5. Covington Div I-AAAA 3. Hillsboro 4. Morristown West Div I-AAAAA 1. Germantown 3. Riverdale In all 8 classifications, the champion and runner-up are in the top 5 of his rankings. I'd say that's pretty darn good folks...I mean of course there are upsets that will throw things off a bit, but to be that consistent has to say something for the viability of computer rankings...whatcha think?
  12. OK...have you seen the field at the Coliseum over the last two years? By December it looks awful, almost as bad as The Meadowlands. NFL games, TSU games, concerts, etc. Add 5, or 8 high school championship games to that mix and there wouldn't be anything but a mudpit left to play in. I think the state championships are fine in the 'boro. For folks that have to drive further, it's like what...25 minutes more than driving to Vandy?...the TSSAA likes it and most of the people commenting on this thread like. And more importantly....I like it. I think any move to FieldTurf™ would be a good one. I've run on the stuff at Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex and it is awesome. The only thing wrong with is is that some players complain about the rubber pellets getting in your mouth, etc. But if you look at some grass fields where sand is used...it aint much worse. I don't know anything aobut the expenses of making a change, but just thought I would give my two cents on the matter.
  13. My senior year at Crockett Co. was Earnest's freshman year. I won't forget even then the plays he made as a freshman in the defensive backfield...I always regretted that he wasn't a couple of years older or that I was a couple of years younger so we could have played together more...I would have loved openin' up some holes for "Scoop". Being in college I didn't get to see Earnest play much this past year. In a scrimmage game against Haywood he really showed out...he stepped up big in the Southside game and was off to a great start against Greenbrier before disaster struck....however, the most memorable game I saw Earnest play in was his sophomore year in the State Championship game against AE. I think everyone there will remember the impact he made on that game and was THE reason Crockett County had a chance to win that game. I think that is when all of the college scouts noticed him too... Good luck Earnest wherever you go, take that Cavalier work ethic with you and show 'em what kinda boys we raise in Crockett Co....I'll be watchin' every Saturday!
  14. Well...I'm gettin ready to hit the road. Great post Teddavid, you took the words right outa my mouth, er...keyboard. Lookin' forward to meetin' all the CoachT guys tonight and makin' plenty of new friends. 7 hours till kickoff!! Go Cavs!!!! Good luck Bro'!
  15. Well....just a bit of history Last year when Marshall Co. played Crockett there were two players up for the Mr. Football Lineman award. D'Juan Love for Crockett Co. and Nick Fender for Marshall Co. The score was 45-0 Crockett and D'Juan ended up witht the Mr. Football Trophy. So it looks like history supports your statement GBT57...
  16. Hmmm...well, not that it is up to me. But I say the more the merrier BDPNO1FAN. I've always liked White House. Saw ya'll beat Humboldt in the '96. That was before Crockett Co. had a winning season. And I really enjoyed seeing ya'll whip them Golden Wildcats from Orange Mound in '97. They put us out that year in the 2nd round. That was a great game...White House looked outmanned terribly (Kindall Moorehead played for Melrose that year) but ya'll took it to 'em and won the gold ball. Too bad ya'll don't still play in 3A...
  17. I already posted mine big p ...Crockett 62 Greenbrier 59 in 6OT ...hope I'm wrong - might have a heart attack if it came to that! ...although be warned, three of the 12 games (H.S. and college) I've gone to this year didn't end in regulation.
  18. the only one to be sure about is DII-A...the WEST ...besides King's and St. Andrews they are all in Memphis!
  19. cavcav, I think I am going to leave Knoxville pretty early and meet all the guys by the RV about 4 or 5, whenever they get there. I've been wearin' my marroon all week up here in K-Town, I won't put my orange back on until Saturday. There aint much else to say about this game that hasn't been said...but I've uncovered some statistical information that Cavalier fans should be wary of.... Playoff Record: Home 11-1 Away 1-5 (includes state championship appearance) Our boys have never traveled well in November and have been lucky to play a lot of home games in the Playoffs. Hopefully we can reverse this trend for one night in 2003...Go Cavaliers! I said earlier I wouldn't post a score this week, but the temptation is too strong: Crockett Co. 62 Greenbrier 59 in 6 OT Alright guys...do I need to bring any food...or are ya'll gonna feed me for free?...don't make a poor college kid pay... Lookin' forward to the best game I've seen this year (and I've been to UT/Bama and Maryville/Knox Central)...see ya'll Friday!
  20. Trestor...for a history teacher...you sure are on this board a lot...when do you teach history??... ...just kiddin' man. As far as the game goes, I am looking for a hard fought defensive effort. Defense is what it will take to win this ballgame. Who can stop Herndon? Who can stop Williams? and who else for each team will step up and make some big plays. I am not gonna make a prediction this week. Look for this one to be low scoring.
  21. jshanes... ...save some food for me man, I'll be travelin' from Knoxville to meet ya. Should be a lot of fun...lookin' forward to a great game. Is it only Monday????
  22. Crockett Co. 28 Page 24 Final Hard fought by both teams...hate for fo either to lose this one
  23. Crockett County had to punt, but there was a roughing the kicker call and Crockett got the ball back with 1:52 to go in the 2nd. They fumbled with 1:00 left...Page gets the ball...got the ball down to the 3 yard line and fumbled...Crockett recovered and ran up the middle to end the half. What a game!!!
