  1. Yeah, I don't think Coach Joslin will be going anywhere, even if it was offered to him. He already followed one legend at Gallatin, Calvin Short, so I don't think he would want to follow another one. Great coach, great man, perfect fit in Cookeville.
  2. Gallatin, '91-'93. #77, OL. Started at Left guard in '92, center in '93. We were 14-1 in '91, lost to a monster Oak Ridge squad in the Clinic Bowl. 15-0 in '93, beat Clinton in the Clinic Bowl. 9-2 in '93, won the Region, got a bye, and lost to Oak Ridge 14-7 in the 2nd round. Only game I ever lost at home. Played at MTSU my freshman year, didn't like it, quit and concentrated on school.
  3. If Overton's defense is as good as advertised, Gallatin had better start holding onto the ball better. Turnovers will kill you all of the time, but especially against a stingy defense. The Wave has been able to move the ball rather effectively here lately, but it hasn't really shown on the scoreboard because of some of the fumbles. Hopefully everyone will be healthy this week, because I think we may need it. You know Overton will have some outstanding athletes, most Metro schools do, but I think Gallatin's conditioning and depth will win out in the end. I missed my first game of the year against Antioch because of a wedding, but I'll be back out at Overton. Go Big Green!!
  4. Lassiter's play-calling the last few years have left me scratching my head!! Don't get me wrong, you don't have to be able to pass to win in high school football. BUT, when you do not have the most talented team, you need to be able to throw a little to keep the defense honest. I have been glad to see them throw a little more this year, but Gleaves and Hall being out last week really hurt. They are both playmakers, and when they are healthy, it makes a difference.

    Gallatin

13 years!!!! Wow, seems like just last week to me!!! Has it been that long since I was the 16-year-old starting left guard for that team? I'd sure like to see them go back, but they ave some big holes on offense to close up. I agree, I think next year will be the shot.
  6. I was also at the game, and I'll have to say that the best team won, and I'm a Gallatin grad. WC has a talented, disciplined, well-coached team. I'll be surprised if they don't give Riverdale all they can handle. Granted, Gleaves and Hall being out did hurt when we were trying to play catch-up. The Wave has some big holes to fill on offense, and especially in the play calling. They can't keep putting the ball on the ground, and they have to limit the mistakes against the talent-laden metro squads we are getting ready to face. I think the defense may have been exposed a little by WC, but once again, Gleaves and Hall being out definitely hurt there too. Go Green Wave!!!!
  7. Al Wilson isn't even the best LB from JCM, Anthony Hicks was a monster there in the early '90's. Jason Walters from Christian Brothers was very good, too. He ended up starting on the defensive line for Syracuse.
  8. Actually, in '91, our only loss was to Oak Ridge in the Clinic Bowl. We were 14-0 going into that game, ranked #11 in the nation in USA Today. We were led by junior QB Lawren Lassiter, Robert Lassiter's nephew. In '92 is when we went 15-0 and beat Clinton in the Clinic Bowl. That was supposed to be a "rebuilding year" according to Coach Short, lol. '93 we definitely under-achieved in my opinion. We had some very talented players returning. 9-1 regular season, and lost to Oak Ridge 14-7 in the 2nd round after a 1st round bye. That was my only home loss ever. As for this year, the coaches really put the players in some tough predicaments. Not swapping tapes with McGavock was just STUPID on their part. Ego and too much pride bit them in their tails on that one. Not lining up to expect an onside kick was another. So what if they kicked it deep, they had squib-kicked all night anyway. Worst case in that scenarion, we get the ball on the 30 yard line. Run the ball and burn some clock, if we don't get a first down, let Ingram punt one deep. Instead, we give them the onside kick with good field position! Just stupid coaching IMO. Like I said before, Lassiter should concentrate on his own team more, not his own ego!!! Defend him if you want, but the man has a huge ego, I know him. He shouldn't be worried about being on 105.9 with his wife on Fridays, giving reports on what the Vols and Titans need to do to win. What about what Gallatin needs to do to win?
  9. I am still very upset with the coaches!!! Why was Gallatin not in an anti0onside kick formation? Everyone in the stadium knew it was coming!! I really question the capability of some of Gallatin's coaches. I know that the players play the game, but you have to have your players prepared to play and put them in a position to win. I have questioned it for the last few years. Just an example: not swapping tapes with the McGavock coaches this year. How do you prepare for a team when you don't know what to prepare for. Lassiter deserved to lose that one. Maybe Lassiter should worry more about preparing his own team, and quit worrying about calling 105.9 and giving his wife reports on what the Vols and Titans need to do to win!!!
  10. A little off subject here, but is Dr. Bentley Rawdon still in McKenzie?
  11. bhsOL, Riverdale did not win the Region in '93, Gallatin did. There was a 3-way tie with Gallatin, Riverdale, and Lebanon. We were all 9-1, Gallatin beat Lebanon, Riverdale beat Gallatin, and Lebanon beat Riverdale. It came down to out of region oppnents' records as the final tie-breaker. It went to Gallatin on that. We got a bye in the first round of the play-offs. GWAVE1, Gallatin did not have an undefeated regular season in '89, they lost to Oakland at MTSU, 10-0 I think. They then avenged that loss in the Clinic Bowl.
  12. Well, given the Wave's history against teams with alot of speed, they can definitely lose this game. I'm not saying they will, but if the defense does not contain and tackle much better than they have the last 2 weeks, then they could be in trouble. I realize it is a young team, but they need to find some consistancy. It is Week 9, those youngsters should have grown up more by now than they have. If they put it all together and play a complete 4 quarters, I see a win, but if they lay down at times, like they have been doing, HL could pull it out.
  13. I can't help but wonder, are we using our talent wisely? 825380600[/snapback] That is a good question, I wonder myself sometimes. I know McFarland is great on D, but I'd like to see him at QB more and move Shipley to the outside, he would give us a big receiver. How much of a threat could Hall be at receiver with a cast on his hand?!?! Why wasn't Brown used more at RB last week, he is a tough, hard-nosed kid and is harder to bring down than Harris, and he always seems to be fired up. I really question Gallatin's coaches sometimes, in all aspects of the games. Sometimes, Lassiter just seems to have no clue.
  14. You want to know what I am tired of? I am tired of hearing Gallatin talk about how pumped they are to play a certain week. This year, it was "Payback" against McGavock. Last year, it was what they were gonna do to Hunters Lane, because that was the week they found out they had to forfeit all those games. Every time, it seems like the on-field performance gets worse. Try this, try just going out and taking care of business on the field instead of talking about what you are gonna do. If you take care of business on the field, people will talk about you, instead of you having to talk about yourself. I don't know what it is, but Gallatin has really struggled in big game atmospheres the last few years. Not sure if it is the coaches, the preparation(or lack there of), or what, but something is wrong. The Wave wants to talk like they still have that swagger, but they just can't back it up like back in the day. I miss that! Back in the '80's and early '90's, we would stomp a mud hole in ya, walk it dry, and make you thank us for it.
  15. First off, I'll give props to McGavock for playing a very good game. It was evident that they were much more prepared for the game than the Wave was. Gallatin was obviously not ready to play. Don't know if I should blame it on the coaches or the players, or both. Not swapping tapes had something to do with it I am sure. Secondly, if you are Gallatin, how are you not pumped to the gills to play this game. I saw no fire in the team! There is no excuse for the level of play I saw Friday night by the Wave. I was very disappointed! They looked like a totally different team than the one that played Antioch. All the talk, and then no backing it up. Third, if they continue the rest of the season like this, they'll be lucky to win another game. They will see the wing-T again this week, and Hendersonville will definitely exploit the lack of defense if they watch the McGavock tape. HL will probably have more speed than McGavock. On another note, I don't really understand the coaches not swapping the tapes. I understand the bitterness toward McGavock, but you have to have your team prepared for every opponent. Another thing, Gallatin has to be the WORST come from behind team I ahve ever seen. It has been that way since Lassiter got here. The DO NOT have to offensive ability to overcome a big lead. They need to work on the passing game to atleast give the kids a chance to come back. You can't overcome a 21 point deficit by running the ball up the middle!!
