  1. #24, I didn't realize that you were still in school. I'm a little older than you, so the education factor is not fair to consider. I was at the BA-Brentwood High game, the Brentwood High-Riverdale game, and almost all of the MBA games home and away including both MBA-BA matchups. I think I have a little more info than you do to justify the ground on which I stand. I am of course assuming that you were playing on those given Friday nights and not in attendance at the matchups I mentioned above. For your information, English Class is always in session. It is a wonderful language; learn to master it; it will help you go far in life. 24, I was young too, so I know from where you view the world. Stay in football and study your tail off in the classroom and on the field; both will prepare you for the world that lies ahead. I wish you a wonderful and bright future!
  2. Fan of numerals, You go whip McCallie, Baylor, MUS, and Brentwood Academy in consecutive weeks, and I'll crown you State Champion! MBA soundly defeated each of those teams in their last four games. Maryville and Brentwood High are the only other teams that could have possibly pulled that off! I am FlyBy
  3. Hey Jacket, you said: "brent wood would of beat ba if they were playing for a championship, i would bet the farm on it. mba couln'dt compete with maryville or hillsboro, the preppy boys would just fold up. when privates go through the struggles like public do then they can be considered the best." What farm are you going to bet? I may want a piece of that action! Your statements in the rest of your post are as bad as your grammar. It is absurd for you to make such statements. For your knowledge which is questionable(to be kind), MBA and Hillsboro played often in years past, and it was not much of a rivalry. I talked with Coach Quarles from Maryville briefly after the game Saturday. I think that I may suggest that one of MBA's open dates be filled by Maryville next year. It would be a great game! You can come up and sit with me, and I'll teach you a little about the game, so that you will not embarrass yourself like this in the future!
  4. Mustang, I'll be the first to say that I don't know a whole lot about your program this year; however, I have considerable doubts that you could go four quarters with those teams. That in no way is meant to be disrespectful of you or your program. I am also calling upon past experiences both on the field against you and in the stands watching you. You have a solid program there, and I think that you will continue to become an even stronger power. Maybe soon, we'll have one massive private school league in which we can all go head to head and settle it on the field. Until then, we'll keep meeting on the scrimmage field. Congrats on a great year, DLHS!
  5. 3, I did not include BA due to their performance in the game that counted. Their players and coaches were whipped in all aspects of the game: emotionally, physically, and mentally. None of the four teams I mentioned can be categorized in that way in regards to the Championship game, which is the game that matters. The beauty of the High School game is that the best team in each classification crowns itself Champion at the end of the year. Therefore, a team like MBA can be young and inexperienced at the beginning of the year, but become a Champion over the course of a season by the gaining of experience, knowledge, and understanding of the game!
  6. Hard to say Big Red. I watched parts of all of the state championship games. I think that there are four teams that stand out from the others. Even though the score was close tonight, I don't think that Riverdale is one of those four. The four are Maryville, MBA, Brentwood High, and Hillsboro. If I were an opposing coach, I would have concerns about each of these teams. Thank you to all of the teams that made this year special; and congrats on a great year of High School Football, despite the presence of the TSSAA! I am FlyBy

    Unsung Heroes

The beauty of High School Football is that it provides an avenue for over-achievers to contribute. Immediately, undersized kids who have become pretty good football players come to mind. You know the ones that play with tons of heart and get the most out of the body that God gave them. Therein lies the spirit of High School Football. Who are some of the kids that never get mentioned in the papers or on chat boards but are hugely responsible for their teams success on Friday nights? I think it's time that these guys get some appreciation. I am FlyBy

    MBA

Coulibaly, Didn't you play basketball? You must have; because, you know nothing about the sport of football! Princess, I don't know what game you watched, but it wasn't the MBA-BA state championship game. To make the kind of statements that you made shows your lack of appreciation for and understanding of the greatest game on earth. You left out the most important part in the success of the MBA program this year and that of years past. Year in and year out, MBA puts the smartest team in the state on the field. Only one team compares in the quality of student athletes that comprise our teams, and that is McCallie. We are well coached which allows our kids to learn and understand the game, not just go through the motions. You could stand to learn a little about the game, since it is obvious that you know as much about football as you do physics. I'll gladly offer to teach you about the game that so many of us love. Let me know when your hectic schedule allows, and I'll put together the core curriculum for you. You can start by reading Sun Tzu. If you don't know about Sun Tzu, then we'll start with Ned and the first reader. Until then, enjoy your lunch breaks! For the record, MBA is the State Champion,..... again! I am FlyBy.

    BA question

Panfan, That's a bit much! Some people do well in certain environments, and others don't. I spent some time there, and quickly determined that it was not for me. I do not care for the school, but I do know that there are a tremendous number of quality people there including coaches, teachers, and students. They definitely live in their own world, but that is perfectly fine for them to do. It is their school, not yours. Many of their alumni are friends of mine; we give each other a hard time when our schools face off, but I can certainly say that they are solid individuals worthy of much more credit than you are giving. 16. Well said Caesar! Everyone wants to wash it under the bridge, and act like it's no one else's business. For those of us who have been around him and played for him, we know that he deserves better than that; therefore, maybe it is our business. Tom is a good man and a good coach; maybe we are seeing that BA doesn't deserve him. This is a particularly sensitive area for BA folks, because people are questioning what they think they stand for. It is still a good institution for some people though.
  17. BABOB, Thanks for the vote for Rutledge, but why do you "hate" MBA?
  18. T Moore got abused in a bad way! We all know that. He took a mediocre team to the state title two years in a row. The teams that he had at BA were no where near as talented as what was put on the field this year. The issue is this: if they want to fire the coach or anyone else, they can. It is perfectly OK! The problem that lies within involves the "mission" of the school that is embodied by the "Triangle" which represents Christianity, Athletics, and Education (something like that). The Triangle is very important to most of the students, the parents, and the alumni that support the school. As a conservative christian, I appreciate those emotions and those beliefs. What a lot of people including myself question is what part of the Triangle was represented in the Coach Moore deal. As I said before, it is perfectly fine for BA to fire him, but have the guts and respect to stand up and say what you are doing and why. I am not close enough nor is it my business to question Masters' or Flatt's involvement in this deal. Quite frankly, I think Coach Flatt is one of the best coaches that this state has ever or will ever see. I am simply commenting on this situation as it is seen in my eyes, and you know what opinions are worth. I think Coach Moore is an excellent coach and will find the perfect place for himself. I respect BA and will continue to follow them as well.....
  19. I hope that you didn't mean to sound so condescending in your reference to the MBA program prior to Ricky's emergence on the scene, but just in case you did, here is information to address your statement. I have given you a lot of credit for your high road approach so far; I'd like to continue that respect. Year in and year out under Coach Owen MBA put solid programs on the field, Brandon. Know of what you speak before you speak. Remember, we were playing at AAA all of that time while you boys were whipping up on Milan and Kingston for your state titles. Yeah, year in and year out you boys had more talent even back then; but who did more with the talent they had? We did not recruit players like you were doing then. While you were out kicking small schools around every week, we were facing off against teams like Gallatin, Overton, Dickson County, Lincoln County, and Germantown every week. It is a lot easier to keep your kids healthy when they play a quality opponent once every 4 weeks. MBA struggled in the early 80's; but starting in '85, MBA became a fixture in the mid to late rounds of the AAA playoffs. Most importantly, Coach Owen was not only a coach, he was a teacher. Not just a teacher in the classroom, but a teacher of life. He instilled in us principles of quality and leadership that we still live by today. The Coach Owens of the world are few and far between. Not only do they know and teach football, they know and teach life! What Coach Owen was able to do on the field with minimal talent was nothing short of spectacular! Coach Owen was teaching and coaching before you were born! Has the game of football changed over time? You bet it has, and Coach O was able to stick to the basics while altering his style to continue to put quality teams on the field. Brandon, you are talking to someone who knows your program and its players over the last 20+ years very well. I respect BA and its accomplishments; but before you go and make general statements (6-4 and 8-3) without the knowledge and understanding of that about which you speak, do a little research first. MBA's football tradition reaches well beyond Brentwood Academy and its 30 years! "Flip son"(like the Coach Flatt reference?), we've been around since "The Reconstruction Period", for cryin' out loud! So don't make such condescending statements as those! Congratulations to BA and all of its accomplishments over the years, but let's show respect where it is do.... MBA is 6 and 1 over BA in the last 7 meetings... Roll Red Roll!!!!!! I am FlyBy
  20. You're ok in my book! Hat's off to another good year for your boys!
  21. No one has mentioned the talent level with which Coach Moore had to work!
  22. Hey B100, I saw a little "heart" from a lot of "scared" kids on the MBA sideline tonight! I remember Joe "the Blur" Johnson, Windham, Adair, Hockaday, Austin, and all of the others from your institution; flip, I still remember their numbers. No one is arguing that they weren't great! The MBA team of that year was just better in mine and a lot of other people's opinions. In regards to strength and speed: yes, we were all fast and strong then too, but we did not look like Will Bartholomew or Holbert........
  23. Tonight, the best team won. MBA was more physical and flew to the football. They made BA look slow and soft. BA still passed their share of hits, but this game was not close. MBA could have put this game away early; but give BA credit, they kept it close until the early third quarter. Is it correct that MBA has won 6 of the last 7 against BA? Way to go Big Red! This is the best of all of your recent State Championships, because you were not supposed to be anywhere close to BA this year.
  24. MBA vs Ryan McCAllie vs Baylor Each school has a long and proud tradition. These games are rivalries in the truest sense of the word. Throw out the records, because you never know who is going to win. To be a great rivalry, there must be great history. A school that has only been around for 20 or 30 years, doesn't have history comparable to these programs. Like it or not, that is the way it is.
