  1. Thank you Melton07. I really think if there was a local board that was elected or appointed that would be made up of coaches and officials, this could help with mediation. And this could be rotated every year to avoid the good ole boy system in both cases. It could be ran more like a board meeting or something of that nature. Again Thank You
  2. The other topic on the refs got deleted but got me to thinking. This thread is not being started to bash anyone. Let's be civil. My opinion: Coaches vs. Officials This has become an issue. How many times does this happen? At a meeting or a ride to a game... Ref 1 "This coach and I have had problems in the past and I don't see it being any different." Coach 1 when Ref 1 walks in the gym to call his game. " I can't believe we have this guy....He doesn't like me and I sure don't like him...He cheated us at Gym X and I am never going to forget it." This happens everyday all over the country. This alienates all parties and gives other officials or coaches preconceived notions about each other. It is causing the wonderful game of basketball to erode into knocked down drag out slugfests on a consistent basis. Solution/Idea: Local associations and coaches are made aware of dates and meeting times so both can attend. Yes, I know that the state meetings all parties are involved. Local meetings however are not. The meetings will be ran by assigning officers of there respective association. Allow things to be discussed by officials and coaches to get a better understanding of each other. Allow officials to discuss problems that they are having during the basketball games. In turn coaches can discuss problems that they are having during games also. It may help each party to better understand what is going to be called or not going to be called. The coaches will also know what the officials are being instructed to do. Cons: 1. Discussions could get heated and possibly become negative Act like adults 2. Physical Altercations Fine/Suspend or Ban from coaching or officiating games Pros: 1. Both parties could discuss issues like adults and human beings instead of adversaries. 2. Both parties could better understand each others point of view and maybe resolve disagreements. 3. Possibility of letting bygons be bygons. Do not begrudge each other for years to come. As you have read this please take this into consideration: COACHES GET FIRED AND OFFICIALS DO NOT!
  3. Was Bowling hurt? I noticed that she had 4 rebounds but did not score. She is a nice player and I know you had said she didn't play in there first meeting and thought the game would be different. Just checking to make sure she is ok. Was the game called one sided? You seem to indicate that in your summary of the game.
  4. Tuesday Lewis County over East Hickman Hickman County over Giles County Loretto over Spring Hill Marshall County over Page Friday Loretto over East Hickman Hickman County over Page Lewis County over Spring Hill Marshall over Giles County
  5. Yeah you are right. Waverly shot 34 freethrows and Hickman shot 11 at home. Good Call!
  6. Do you have any info on who Waverly and Cheatham played? It sounds as if this district should be very competitive. How did Montgomery Central look against Rossview last night?
  7. 1. Cheatham 2. Sycamore 3. Creekwood 4. Waverly 5. Harpeth 6. Stewart County 7. Fairview 8. Montgomery Central Are these teams going to any playdays? If so where, who are these teams scrimmaging? Come on 11 AA fans!
  8. 1. Marshall County 2. Lewis County 3. Giles County 4. Hickman County 5. Loretto 6. Page 7. Spring Hill 8. East Hickman This should make for an exciting year!
  9. This has been a big discussion. I have read the rules on the TSSAA website and to me they are still unclear. Will this rule affect aau teams in the spring or just the fall? Please explain your interpretation. From website: 50% Rule: Applies to basketball, baseball, and softball. Participation (includes practice) during the school year on a non-school team prior to the school season by students that will play the following season on the high school team is limited to 50% of the number of players required to play the game (3). Only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team prior to the school season may be placed on the same high school roster the following season. Those students cannot be interchanged on the school team roster.
  10. No, I was not at the game. I just heard the authorities had to be called during the thunder game. So what happened.
  11. Funny, I just heard that the authorities (police) had to be called on the Tennessee Thunder in Lebanon this weekend. Any details?
  12. Not a personal attack, merely an observation. As I stated in my earlier post, it is something I have personally witnessed and if it had been an isolated incident, i would have never even mentioned it. I am done with the topic. I was just stated what i saw first hand at Kenwood and what i have seen first hand over the last few years.
  13. Let me rephrase my statement. I have seen them leave tournaments without completing their committments to that tourney due to bad officating or something of that matter. I have watched them leave the court before the game was completed. I will edit my post. For that I apologize.
  14. Well here goes. I have personally watched the Tn Thunder organization for many years. I do believe they attempt to provide kids a positive atmosphere with their organization and staff. However, I recently was on hand to watch one of the thunder games this weekend at Kenwood High School. I believe these guys were 14u and they were playing in a very intense game on Saturday night. Although techinicals were not issued, the coach whined the whole game from start to finish. Two fans were ejected (assuming parents) during the contest. The game was even by score, fouls, and officiating was consistent in my opinion. But, these two fans were on the front row just wearing the one official out. They were seemed to be using the cheating aspect as well. As we all know, the officating in games now a days may not be grade A, but 99% of the time it has nothing to do with race, gender, ethnicity, or anything that would constitute foul play. To the incident, thunder player drove the lane and looked like he flopped after throwing up a circus shot. Father (assumed) runs towards the referee in a threatining manner towards the court and comes withing 2 or 3 feet of the court and the referee. He was immediately ejected. No technicals were given. A few minutes later. Thunder player was shooting freethrows and fan 2 (mother) shouts out "you ain't nothing but a punk $$$ referee". She was then ejected and no technicals were issued. I have also seen Mr. Williams and some of the others in the organization just continuosly ride officials from start to finish and parents act in very negative manner towards them as well. If it was just an isolated incident, I wouldn't even be on here. They have been ejected out of gyms, quit before the game was over (took their ball and went home so to speak) and many other issues that do not present a positive influence for these kids they claim to give so much too. Again, I do believe that their intententions are to help these young men, but are having an adverse affect due to their antics. Motivation Speakers are very good for the players to hear. Maybe the parents and coaches should be allowed to listen and take notes. Everything is not always fair and just bc it doesn't go your way, it does not mean that someone, something, or some other entity is against you or cheating.
  15. When a pitcher bounces the ball to the catcher and even bounces in front of the plate. "Hey, we're playing on the big field this year."
  16. We are definitely proud of you and your experience at the Deep South. But, just to clarify one thing. Although there were many colleges in attendance at this prestigious tourney, the majority of the high major and head coaches were at THE TOURNAMENT .... NIKE BOO WILLIAMS INVITATIONAL. But again, congrats on your accomplishement on winning the Deep South.
  17. It might have been closer but the Leonard girl (very good player) got to stand out of bounds guarding the ball in the press and got warned in the second half which was too little too late. She also stole the ball while standing out of bounds on the baseline and then scored. Rule: you must give the inbounder a minimum of 3ft. Not to mention the fact, Watertown has a steal and driving for a layup and RBS shoves girl head first into the wall and no call and RBS ball. Result Technical Foul. But, not to blame officials but the out of bounds rule is clear. With that being said, congrats to RBS on the win.
  18. With the rumors surrounding Gordonsville, who takes this one?
  19. And no offense intended, but Whitwell is in the top 10 and Mount Juliet Christian beat them. The combined record of Whitwell's opponents are like 8w vs. 60 losses. Again, this was not intended to offend anyone.
  20. I heard rumor that the siegel nation and Oakland fans got in a fight after the game. Is there any truth to this any info?
  21. wow, it sounds like they really screwed that one up. tough luck to watertown. looks like officiating again has decided the outcome of a game (which is not supposed to happen). wish the kids could have decided that one.
  22. Friendship over MTCS by 5 Watertown over Springfield by 7
