  1. Smooth.... Not a Notre Dame fan at all, and Alcoa recruits like there's no tomorrow. Heck, they don't even deny it anymore. The 3 point line came into existence in the late 80's. I know this is probably a long time ago to someone in their late teens like you, but really...it's not. The point is that Perry County has a lot of tradition and expectations to succeed. The other teams in Perry County's district have never won a State Championship in boys basketball and I sincerely doubt they have ever produced a D-1 player (PC has at least 4) and especially haven't produced a pro (PC has 2). You think they don't deserve to have their own thread? I think you are wrong. The 6 gold balls think you are wrong. The Big Ten Player of the Year thinks you are wrong. The Parade All-American thinks you are wrong. The one-time all time leading scorer for Vanderbilt (even though he was used sparingly his senior year due to a coaching issue) thinks you are wrong. The mid-50's teams with a school enrollment of about 150 that won 3 consecutive State Championships against urban schools with enrollments approaching 2000 think you are wrong. If someone is inconvenienced by a Perry County basketball thread, then that's their problem. Anybody who truly knows anything about high school basketball in Tennessee doesn't have an issue with it, I assure you. Jealous haters, on the other hand.....
  2. Perry County/Linden has won 6 state championships (should have been arguably 7 or 8)...3 of which were won BEFORE THERE WERE CLASSIFICATIONS. They produced a Parade All-American shooting guard who averaged almost 42 points per game 15 years before the introduction of the 3-point line (only 15 players in the entire country get named "All-American"), and a player that went on to become the Big Ten Player of the Year as a Junior at Indiana, as well as a first round NBA draft pick. And this only scratches the surface of the accomplishments of Perry County basketball. All this from the 6th least populated county in Tennessee. A place that couldn't recruit from surrounding counties school districts if it wanted to. I'm pretty sure Perry County has earned the right to have their own thread. This is comparable to someone complaining about Alcoa having their own tread in football the football forum or Shelbyville girls having their own thread in the girls basketball forum.
  3. First of all...somebody isn't reporting scores because the last 2 games aren't on the scoreboard. Okay. Now that is out of the way. I haven't seen them play, but I have to believe that they offset their size with speed. This will probably get them through the district with no more than a couple of losses...maybe none. And it possibly will get them to the State. I don't know how the other 1A powers in the state stack up, but a well-disciplined team with good guard play and a big man that can handle the ball will offset a lot of speed advantages. I hope they can put together another run at the State. In PC, if you don't make it to the State, you didn't have a good year. It's funny to go to other gyms and they have banners all over the place for everything, but PC only has banners for making it to the finals (unless they have changed). I remember being upset when they put up the "runner-up" banner for the '96 team. In my opinion, PC should only raise banners for State Championships. I also think they should stop retiring numbers for All-State Tournament honorees. They could retire their jersey, but keep the number active. Only First Team All-State honorees should have their number retired. Just my humble opinion.
  4. A quick point that really has nothing to do with the game. Around here, when you say "c ville", people automatically think "Centerville". It's a little confusing. Similar thing happens around Lawrenceburg. Many people who have to write the word "Lawrenceburg" a bunch will abbreviate it as "L-burg", which confuses the fire out of people from Lewisburg, who do the same thing, but to a lesser extent (because Lewis is shorter than Lawrence). Carry on....
  5. No doubt...but I have been the most honest.
  6. I was referring to posts made in one of the previous LC vs. GC threads in association with this one. I suppose I should have clarified. And I agree. I did come on a little strong. I guess I was set on attack mode...something at which I am very adept.
  7. From my rather limited knowledge of Giles County football, it has pretty much stunk to high Heaven up until the past 3 or 4 years. Five or six years ago, Lewis County eviscerated them and had the freshmen, 4 grade schoolers, and 2 majorettes playing by the end of the third quarter, so get off your high horse...you're sounding like a Florida Gators fan. You're just chapped because you weren't satisfied with a 22-0 win. And don't come back and say that it's not so, because we all know that's what it is. You were expecting a 50+ point offensive showcase by the Bobcats, but when it didn't happen, you make excuses. Again...see Florida Gators. Lewis County is obviously having a down year. It's a small public high school...it happens. They have been beaten by 3 1A teams this season, and you come here trying to rub salt in the wounds by talking smack (still...a week later) about the game with Giles County. They won...Let it go. The teams will be more evenly matched next year and you will have 11 months to think up creative cutdowns in the time leading up to the game...then even more creative excuses if Giles County doesn't deliver a beatdown on Lewis County, or God forbid, gets beaten by them.
  8. First of all...I wasn't there, so I don't know exactly what happened. Sometimes, scores can be misleading. Having gotten that out of the way... I think that it is somewhat impressive that this particular LC squad was able to hold GC to 22. This team is probably the "least experienced" team that LC has fielded in quite some time. And from what I've read on this board, this is one of the best GC teams there have been. Maybe even championship caliber. Again, just going by what I've read. So, with those two things in mind, I do believe that is something of which to be proud. I'm sure GC had the athletes and the game plan to thwart the wing-T attack of Lewis County...even with LC probably trying to pass about a half-dozen times or so, which is really airing it out by their standards. This is the reason for the goose egg on LC's side. Giles County won the game. There is no need to make excuses for a win and it is poor sportsmanship to belittle an out-manned team that put forth a valiant effort and stood their ground against a much better team.
  9. Wow! Maybe the biggest win ever for the program? I don't know anything about Collinwood's team this year, but I assume they are pretty decent. They always are.
  10. Well...congratulations to Lewis County for (apparently) affecting the passing game. This really showed me something. Is it possible that having to adjust to the talent and passing of bigger schools just might be beneficial to Lewis County come playoff time? Who'd of thunk it? The previous poster mentioned the rain, but I didn't realize it was raining that much in Hohenwald.
  11. No disrespect intended, but I figure that this thread will be much more competitive than the pending game between the Bobcats and the Panthers. Giles County's ability and willingness to pass should prove to be too much for LC. Figure in an "offensive" defensive game plan by Giles County and you have the makings of a long night for LCHS. Lewis County just can't replicate any kind of a passing attack by their scout teams in practice. The defense just doesn't get to see an effective passing game in practice. This isn't a dig at this year's team, either. It has been that way for a long time. If the TSSAA had outlawed the forward pass 20 years ago, I have no doubt in my mind that Lewis County would have won at least 1 State Championship and would have made it to at least a half dozen Semi-Final games. It's those pesky teams that insist on passing and loading the box on defense that have always stopped LC from advancing.
  12. What the heck is a preformance?
  13. Haterade...good one. I don't care if somebody comes here or anywhere and talks smack. Just better be hungry when it doesn't go down like predicted because there's going to be a table full of crow to be eaten. I've always been a fan of settling the game on the field. Talk is cheap and the people who are doing the talking make themselves look stupid when their predictions don't pan out. This applies to anything...not just this meaningless high school football game.
  14. This is why it's never a good idea to boldly prognosticate on a message board. Care to predict the outcome on any college or pro games this weekend? I need a little extra cash.
  15. The play calling is most likely on par with what it has been for the past several years. Not a jab at the coaches at all. Just a fact. Everybody who knows anything about Coach Sharp knows he hate's passing worse than God hates sin and he just won't do it very much. The middle school program and even the junior pro program runs (or used to...I'm not certain about now) the same offense and defense as the high school. This means VERY limited passing (3 attempts in a game would be airing it out) and the 4 linebacker defense. This also means that if Lewis County can't run, they can't move the ball. And they are a little lost against a good passing team because their base defense is so ingrained in the kids' heads. I believe that these kids just need a little more time. They will pull it together and get a few wins. They will figure it out.
  16. Yes, this is well known. Or, at least I thought it was.
  17. Holy Lord in Heaven! It's pretty obvious that my posts are a little thick for some to swallow, so I will try to dilute for the challenged. I said OUTRIGHT in my last post that I wasn't referring to this year's team. I know my posts can be a struggle to understand. I try to dumb them down as best I can. Really, I do. I don't doubt for one minute that any of the kids on this year's Lewis County Panthers football team are anything other than great kids. As I said before (and obviously need to clarify) I KNOW NOTHING OF THIS YEAR'S TEAM AND MY STATEMENTS WERE ADDRESSING A POST ABOUT HOHENWALD/LEWIS COUNTY ONLY PRODUCING ONE D1-A PLAYER. Maybe you need to go back and re-read my initial post on this subject. I think you'll find that I addressed all of the same frigging things you implied I should have addressed in that initial post. I will help you out and paraphrase....It's not Coach Sharp's fault that some of the players who were talented enough to play at the next level, didn't. The post is on page #2 of this thread...second from the bottom. I would hyperlink, but this board doesn't have that feature.
  18. Obtuse! Ha! Looks like somebody has been watching The Shawshank Redemption! Better watch it, Andy...Warden Norton will throw you in the hole for using big words he doesn't know the meaning of! I love that movie. Get busy livin'...or get busy dyin'... Love it!!! Saying that only one D1-A athlete has come from the Lewis County football program is true, but not altogether accurate. There have been athletes who have played for Lewis County under Coach Sharp who could have suited up for a number of D1-A programs. Granted, they didn't. Some shot themselves in the foot and some were just plain not marketed because Coach Sharp didn't want his good name attached to them. They were thugs, troublemakers, intellectually challenged, chemically enhanced (this one isn't exclusive to the talented players...this has been the 400 pound gorilla in the corner for years. Ever wonder why there are so few players over 6 feet? This needs to stop.), or Coach Sharp simply didn't believe they had the heart and gumption to last in a college football atmosphere. This isn't a big secret inside Lewis County. All this notwithstanding, I hope Lewis County will figure out a way to turn it around and make a good showing the rest of the season. These kids have a lot of pressure on them to succeed due to the tradition. Lets keep this in mind. Do you know any of this to be fact or pure speculation? I can give you one fact...this years senior class.....none of that applies without a doubt, From top to bottom. None intellectually challenged, none chemically enhanced, no thugs etc. Pretty harsh statement if you don't know any to be true, not only on Sharp but the program as a whole. They do have some "natural" talent with brains. If you don't know any of this to be absolutely fact, you have thrown a big cloud over alot of players, past and present. If you do know fact.....report it to the TSSAA and get it cleared up and fixed. I do agree with your comment about the pressure these kids are under this year. I'm curious to see how the fans support them through the tough times facing them......last weeks crowd was down some, but probably due to the fair being in town.....I hope......this week should tell if the support is there. Lewis has a couple of classes coming up in the next 2 years with big numbers that should bring the program back to where its expected to be. If the coaching staff would have known that TSSAA was going to throw this at them, the might have played more 2nd and 3rd stringers last year to gain experience.....but it is what it is. If you want to watch some exciting ball....come out and catch a game.....the outcome is never certain......till the finale horn goes off. Side note...This years seniors are more like Vandy players in the SEC, smart and play hard even with the odds against them.....maybe we could have a brain bowl after each game and at least get a split I know nothing of this year's team. I really wasn't referring to this year's team. And I assume that you are talking about the enhancement statement. I have to assume that you are being facetious on this one. Lots of high school programs have this issue. It's really not hard to pick them out. And why is this a harsh statement on Coach Sharp? Saying that he doesn't want to sully Lewis County by marketing a kid that is a good athlete, but has a serious downside is harsh? And I might be mistaken, but I thought that this new setup has been in the works for a couple of years. Using the theory that Coach Sharp would have played more second and third stringers in order to get them some playing time if he had known would hold true for this year, too. By this logic, he should be pulling the seniors in favor of freshmen and sophomores in order to get ready for next season. Coach Sharp puts the best players on the field with an eye on winning the game that is being played.
  19. Very nice setup the Tennessean has. You can click on the player's name and get a game-by-game breakdown of his stats. Good for the players whose team reports the stats to the Tennessean... Bad for the ones whose team doesn't. It's kind of refreshing to see that the "tackles" aren't in the realm of ridiculous, yet. That's bound to change as we progress into the season. By week 6 we'll start seeing the top 20 shuffle around with some teams reporting insane (dare I say it....false) tackle numbers for their leaders. Happens every year.

  21. Are you really a coach? I mean, a coach of a high school team? Because, if you are, that would suggest that you are either a graduate of a university or at least a student teacher. I'm not trying to flame you and this post isn't directed at you, in particular, but here's my point... Everybody needs to stop being lazy and start trying to use punctuation and capitalization where necessary. I know this stems from text messaging and IMs, but when it's typed out on in long-form, it makes the author look less intelligent...even if he or she is very smart. It shouldn't be the reader's job to have to read the poster's post 3 times just to place the mental commas and periods so that it makes sense. LCHSgrinch is a perfect example of someone who can post articulately....and he IS a coach, but not for who most people probably think. Hope I didn't out him on that.
  22. Just curious, did you see that coach calling defensive plays or are you just assuming it was happening because the two coaches are related? It isn't difficult to know what LC is doing. They've done the same thing for years. Since they have beaten MP for several years is it possible the MP coaches figured it out? That is an undeniable fact. I'm thinking this new district setup will cause LC to have to pass more or start getting used to 5-5 and 6-4 seasons. I love running as much as the next guy, but it's common knowledge that the threat of a pass will loosen up a defense...otherwise, they are going to go "Dead Red" on the run. The Wing-T has won LC a lot of games in the region, but has cost them dearly during the playoffs.
  23. Great post Terminator. My guess is they won't even make it to the play-offs. But if they do get to the play-offs from thier recruiting this off season, I say a private school will knock em out 1st round 49-0 (by half time) And you, of all people, should just go ahead and keep your mouth shut. If you are the resident representative of Alcoa, you have absolutely NO RIGHT to call out anyone for recruiting! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! I would be very curious to know how many of the starters on Alcoa's great teams were born and raised in Alcoa's school district. My guess (see...I can guess, too) is that about half of them are from outside Alcoa's zone (and I know they are an open-zone school...how convenient) and were "invited" to come to Alcoa's Jr High when they were noticed for their talent or potential. heck...Alcoa out-recruits the D-II privates!
  24. I would assume that the recruiting comment was in reference to the number of players that originated in other school districts, but found their way to Lewis County instead....even though they still lived in said school district. Mt. Pleasant and Summertown, to be exact. Summertown has no football program, so those kids have the option of legally going to play for Lawrence County. I don't pretend to know the legality (in the TSSAA world) of a kid or kids playing out of county when their school doesn't offer football. Pretty sure it's not "legal" for a kid to live in one school zone, but attend another school for athletic purposes when the school they are supposed to attend offers the sport. I know it's unethical...especially if the local schools are in any way supported by property taxes. This little problem has stood in the way of LC having a legitimate gripe against the Nashville privates and the open-zoned schools (Alcoa). Reminds me of a saying about throwing stones in glass houses....DON'T!
  25. Cant go wrong with a vote for Richland. Their visitor bleachers should probably be condemned. Also, Mt. Pleasant doesn't have a great set-up either. Their home bleachers are in the dark. Seems strange. And kind of off topic, but Lambuth University's facilities/field/"stadium" are ridiculous. Lewis County's Jr High stadium and facilities completely blow away Lambuth's. These NAIA schools play on the kid's desire to play college football and the parent's desire to brag about their kid getting a "scholarship"...but, the reality is that they rarely ever offer greater than a 50% scholarship and double up the tuition. Then, they give everybody and their dog one of these "scholarships". Sorry about the rant. I just think the parents need to just accept that little Johnny was an outstanding high school player, but isn't good enough to suit up for a D1, 1AA, or DII school. Coming to terms with this fact would save them tens of thousands of dollars. (I know they call the different divisions by different names, now, but I am too lazy to look them up)
