These quotes can go to both of Cloudland's basketball teams. There is no doubt that both Smith and Birchfield have lost their teams. With rumors about Birchfield already in the air, it may not be long until Smith's future is in doubt. I like both Smith and Birchfield, but it is becoming obvious that their players dont respect them. The next few weeks will be cruical in Cloudland athletics. Both have done great jobs, dont get me wrong, but a coach has to be in control at all times and it seems like the players are in control more then the coaches. It will be interesting to watch the next few weeks.

I think anyone can win the NFC right now. I hate to say this because I dont want to jinx the Panthers but they have a great shot if they can get pass Dallas this week. They should have beat Philly in the regular season but Kasey missed 10 points and they lost by 5, but like I said anyone can win the NFC if they put together a strong run!

I personally think that Stephen Davis of Carolina should get alittle attention. He has had an incredible year even missing 2 games. He has had around 1900 all purpose yards (give or take a few) and is a key reason Carolina is in the playoffs.

Goldenboy, you got your wish! What an incredible ending. It is ashame that Minnesota's season ended on what seems to be a questionable call. The Cardinals had not scored a touchdown with 2 minutes left in a half all year long until today. Just an incredible game!

I have 17 inches here too 'Ette. I can't get out at this moment because my driveway is solid sheet of ice and with 4 wheel drive it is still dangerous so I will wait around. See West Tennesseans Snow is not all its cracked up to be. The only other bad thing is I havent got to go skiing yet and it is killing me. I finshed my Christmas shopping in one day and still cant find the time to go skiing. All that fresh powder, beautiful weather maybe i will get to go before New Years.

I am offically done Christmas Shopping. I just got in and spent all day shopping but I am done. With a few stops at the mall, Houndogs, Wal-mart, and Fantasy in Lights at BMS. Yes, I bought some Christmas gifts at a racetrack but it works for me . I have had fun and believe it or not I saw several Roan Mountain people out and about. One snowy day and one day one year Christmas Shopping done! 'Ette, dont send all the snow away because this may stay and we will have a white Christmas. We got our foot all right, we got it a day and a night early . The snow is still falling and we could get 6 more inches today and tonight. Poor 'Ette must be losing her mind now. We really need a playoff system in college football. D-II has it and it works pretty well. The BCS did its job in my opinion. Why do I think that? Simple, the BCS does not care when you lose. The voters in the polls do. If Oklahama had lost their first game instead of their last, most likly no one would be talking about it. The one thing I don't like is that Oklahoma won't be Big 12 champs but could be National Champs. Something is wrong with that picture. There are also other scenrios that could cause problemsm, but oh well. We deal with what we have and just hope for improvements.

With Tuesday night's loss to Daniel Boone, the Lady Landers are sitting 3-3. With Cosby looming for Friday, the road is going to tough. Will they finsh above .500? In my opinion, they have the talent to be a dominant team. With only one player scoring points in the first quarter last night something seems to be wrong. Is it a bad case of ME ball or something else? Indepence is located in Charlotte and the game, if played, could be at Ericcson Stadium. I had the opportunity to go watch Independence, but could not make it due to weather. I watched a few 2-A schools in North Carolina and I was surprised at the level of football they played at. One Recruiting Note: Indepedence was were Chris Leak played and the sophmore quarterback this year was rumored to be better then Leak. Joe Cox is an unreal athlete and he is very talented. Look for him in the college ranks

I thought I would let you guys who love high school football know that the 2 top teams in the nation could very well be playing next season. Independece, Charlotte, NC and De La Salle, Calfornia who are #1 and #2 in USA TODAY poll are discussing a matchup the first week of the season. The game could be played in Charlotte and showed on ESPN. The matchup would see one of the 2 longest winning streaks in the nation end. De La Salle has won 150+ games straight and Indepence has won 60+. Also your classic private school verus public school matchup. It will be interesting to see if it does happen then what happens. Also, if you are interested in NC highschool football there is a website like Coacht. The address is www.nchsfootball.com. The message boards do have a certain amount of cussing though and it makes me glad Coacht and his mods keep such a close eye on things. Check it out

Yeesh! I love snow and the winter but this is getting alittle crazy. Heavy, Heavy snow one minute and sleet and freezing rain the next then vice versa. Up to a quarter inch of Ice and 2-5" of snow and sleet with more snow coming tomorrow and tomorrow night. If the storm takes the right track we could get up to a foot of snow. It is very dangerous on the road so if you are out and about in the mountains be aware of a dangerous situation.

That thought has crossed my mind every Friday night since CAK beat us. Anyway, 'Ette does not give invites to anyone who know what Coacht is except for her.. Her plans actually for some reason scare me for some odd reason!

Winter time is fast approaching. The Roan Mountain/Avery County, NC area recieved its first light dusting of snow of the season with more in the forcast for the weekend. The first snowflakes always get everyone ready for Christmas around here. The ski slopes are shooting for this weekend as opening weekend which is normal but Sugar Mountain opened for one weekend two weeks ago with their snowmaking equipment. I want to be the first one to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone.

I guess I will sorta be in the minorty for once. I dont believe in putting my Christmas lights or Tree up untill Thanskgiving weekend because it is a tradition and I do not want to overlook Thanksgiving. I do however attend some Christmas events (like parades, plays, Biltmore's and Pigeon Forge's deals) before Thanskgiving because it is hard to find the time afterwards. I also listen to Christmas music like Let It Snow, Winter Wonderland, and the such because it gets me in the Wintery Mood. I am a Mountain Boy and Winter is my favorite season. I love Summer, dont get me wrong, but in my heart Winter is number one. The Snow, Skiing, the harmony, just the whole deal. I love winter in the mountains and I guess I am the minority there also! Robjim, what would you do for Columbus Day, Memorial Day, and Labor Day for the overworked yard Santa?
