    VA Duals

CW160 are you kidding me? I Just hope that your younger brother logged on to your name and put that post, because it is very very ignorant, and I want to apologize to all the people have to read something like that. I agree the Bradley situation is always brought up, but I think it was cleared up when Lee Connell got on here and spilled his guts about the rivarly. I respect coach Logsdon and his decision, and if I was a betting man Logsdon would not want to come on here and read what you posted. I dont think any people have been crying about the D1 and D2 split is very frustrtating and most would like to see it changed, but what can we do? Just watch the sport of wrestling and cheer your team on. Its good to see tournaments that D1 and D2 schools can wrestle each other, like the Mccallie tournament where it would have been great to see Bradley, but had alot of competition, and the Ryan invitational this weekend where I think D2 schools had the top four spots, so I mean from what I can tell CW160 or your little brother who every put this post, D2 schools seem to be getting in every tournament possible, along with some of the other D1 schools its just a shame we cant see both wrestle in February, even if it was duals split and possibly the individual tournament combined with D1 and D2. But I mean what can we do. Like I said good luck to all wrestlers and teams with the last month remaining!! Lovetowrestle
  4. 103- Whit Dunning (Ryan) dec (8-4) Michael White (McCallie) Whit domintated the kid after making a mistake and going to his back for a quick two count be the refin the first, and controlled White the whole match and I think Dunning can take it to anyone in the state, maybe this is a State Finals match? 112- Jimmy Hiller (Ryan) dec (7-1) Tike Gooden (Red Bank) Jimmy Hiller is the absolute real deal, Gooden is a great wrestler and defeated a good Simpson kid, and Hiller dominated and did everything right, and he would have maybe gotten my vote for OW. 119- Cody Clevland (Mccallie) Maj dec (11-2) Frank Mondelli (Ryan) Cody Clevland pretty much domintaed the whole match, racking up alot of back points to get a good tourney win. I was very impressed watching Mondelli through out the tournament he beat some good wrestlers to place for Ryan. 125- Jack Silberman (Mccallie) M-dec (10-2) Charlie Oddo (Ryan) Silberman is the real deal domintaed all of the match Oddo for Ryan did a good job staying with him and maybe a tough important match down the road. 130- Raymond Dunning (Ryan) M-Dec 14-2 Willie Furman (Red Bank) What can you say 4 time Tournament Champion OW and wrestled a tough Furman in the finals, I think Dunning could have won the tournament in any weight class from 125-140, and maybe possibly give Marable and Ryan Scott a good match at his weight now. Another State Title in Dunnings future! 135- Spencer Manley (Mccallie) Fall 1:16 Jusitn Gooden (red Bank) Getting a pin in this type of tourney in the first period is always a huge accomplishment and something to brag about. Manley from Mccallie looked very very good, and Gooden from Red Bank had a good weekend, but leaving the mat shaking his head I dont think he knew what happened it happened so fast. His brother looked away after taking a picture and turned back around and it was over. Good Match for Mccallie. 140- Bobby Musser (Brentwood) Dec (9-2) Nick Myers (Ryan) Musser from Brentwood really impressed me it was his first Ryan invitational after transfering from Nevada where he placed in the state there as a freshman. He was very aggressive and good on his feet while defeating a good wrestler in Myers, i see both of these guys going deep in the tourney in February. 145- Nick Marable (Christian Brothers) Dec (1-0) Ryan Scott (Mccallie) Well the score says it in this match, I think all of their matches will be this close and low scoring, Marable got an escape I think late in the third and Scott could not get a take down, to win this match one of the guys have to make a mistake and the other capitalize or I can see it almost 1-0 or 0-0 going into the third everytime, Scott to me not as intense as usaual take nothing away from Marable, I think it will be a state finals match and I cant wait to see it! 152- Adam Stark (Ryan) Dec (6-5) Justin Miller (Benjamin Russel, Ala.) This was one of the most exciting matches I have seen over the years, with 5 seconds left a deperation cradle by Stark puts the Miller guy on his back to get 3 near fall as the horn sounded. It was very intense and got the crowd off their feet in the gym. My question is with Connell looking a little burned out after wrestling since he was six years old does Stark win state? A wide open weight class in February. 160-Chase McTory Fall (.54) Justin Knox (Farragut) Once aganin a pin in the first period is a big match for the winner and leaves the other shaking his head leaving the mat. Chase to me right now is wrestling very well and possibly trying to impress his brother with a gold medal in February. I have changed my mind on him he is a good wrestler right now and we will see if mentally he stays with it. 171- Michael Marable (Chrisitan Brothers) Dec (4-1) Blake Lutrell (MBA) Well the Marable kid did what he had to do to win, and pending no upsets this could be the state Finals match, I think Marable has improved after last year just being dominated by the kid from Ryan, I think it was Gorham who just beat him probably 10 times. I think that Marable can win state beating Lutrell. He is a good wrestler. 189- Leavy Davis (Westside) 6-5 Blake Goodman (MBA) This to me was the most intense match of the tournament, with every whistle blowing to signal out of bounds the MBA kid was flying in the air to land out of bounds, lots of upper body strength used between the two. I think that Goodman could have won the match if he shot near the end, Davis was gassed and out of steam, but he held him off and defintely deserved the win, both of these guys are sore this morning i am sure. 215- Ian Thornhill (MBA) Dec (4-1) Jeff Pereiria (Farragut) Thornhill put a coujple take downs together to win a close match and it looks like he might have a great chance to win a state championship as long as he doesnt make many mistakes in Februray. 275- Daniel Crosby (Greenville) Fall (1.05) Seth Cooper (MBA) This Heavyweight is for real and I am cheering for him to win the state after his show at the tournament. he picked Cooper above his head on a shot and pinned with ease. I dont know the kid and first time to see him wrestle, but what got me was how sportsmanlike he was on and off the mat he wants the state championship and I think he can get it. Good luck to Crosby. He could have gotten a good amount of votes for OW. 1. Father Ryan 286.00 2. MBA 217.00 3. McCallie 212.00 4. Christian Brothers 133.50 5. Farragut 107.50 6. Collierville 106.00 7. Franklin 102.00 8. Brentwood High 94.50 9. Houston 88.00 10. Red Bank 84.50 11. Fort Campbell 73.00 12. Greenville 71.00 13. Kenwood 70.00 14. Knox Catholic 67.50 15. Tullahoma 65.00 16. Westside 62.50 17. Franklin Road Academy 37.00 27. BGA 31.50 28. Dickson County 31.00 29. Glencliff 30.00 30. Germantown 26.00 31. Marshall County 22.00 32. Sycamore 19.00 33. Webb 17.00 34. Fairview 0.00 34. (tie) John Paul II 0.00 34. (tie) MUS 0.00 34. (tie) Smyrna 0.00 34. (tie) USN 0.00 This was a tournament filled with a couple powerhouse schools and D II finished in the top 4 and I was very suprised to see MBA second and Mccallie 3rd followed by Christian Brothers and Farragut and a host of D1 schools. Father Ryan just absolutely dominated with 13 out of 14 wrestlers placing in the top six. I thought it would be Mccallie and Ryan dualing it out for the top spot, but MBA fab four kept them in it with there upper 4 weights getting in the finals. Dont let the score fool you when the dual meets come around these top 3 teams will make it alot closer, and it will be fun to watch in February. Good luck to all teams and wrestlers this last month and a half! Lovetowrestle!
  5. Where can you check the Big Ones basketball standings all I can find is Football??
  6. I just wanted to send Congratulations to all the teams that competed this weekend out of state. Our state has a number of good rivalries, but the way I look at it when teams leave the state, its not a team you want to see lose. When Baylor goes to Alabama, I look at it as Tennesse vs. Alabama, Bradley goes to Virginia its Tennessee vs. Virginia, Father Ryan vs. Mater Dei, Tennesse vs. Indiana. I dont know how everyone else looks at the situation but I give credit to the teams that go out of state and wrestle the best competition possible, and love to see everyone win, and get a name going for Tennesse wrestling. All that matters in for your team is how you do in February, and until then go out and try to knock off some big name programs outside of the state! Go Tennessee! Lovetowrestle
  7. Looks like still a powerhouse in Indiana and in the nation. http://www.myinky.com/ecp/high_school_spor...1638930,00.html
  8. If I remember right I think Mater Dei has all there wrestlers back from last year?? And in their history have never lost there tournament?? Can anyone elaborate on that?? I hope that represent Tennessee well..Go Irish!
  9. Connel and Scott i am sure get after each other in practice they are both great wrestlers right now, like you can see in alot of situations good wrestlers practice against each ohter and push each other ot be the best they can be. Speaking about the Marable kid at 145 does he wrestle his bigger brother in practice? Lovetowrestle
  10. I have to agree with McCallie 152 Lee Connel he is a great wrestler, even though he is nursing an engery on his elbow I believe, and it seemed to affect him while placing 6th at there Tournament, and he foreited his last match? Can anyone in D2 give him a run for his money in February? Adam Stark of Father Ryan seemed to defeat him pretty easily 7-1? Does anyone know if it was completely of the injury or can the guy from Ryan compete? Like that say it doesnt matter what you do in December its where are you in mid February? Good luck to all 152's Lovetowrestle
  11. I am seeing a lot of good posts and seems there a couple good 189's out there and looks to be a fun weight to watch at the state tournament. I have not seen any post of 189's in D2, it looks like it will be Greenwood of Ryan and Goodman from MBA both state medal winners from last year if i am correct. The two will probably wrestle up to four more times before the state finals and I think it will be a one point match either way, maybe even always in overtime, Greenwood defeated Goodman in a close match at McCallie and it looks like thats how the whole season will go between the two. What are some future predictions for medal winners in February in D1 and D2? Lovetowrestle
  12. Tnwrestler, here is the brackets I think it took them a few mintues to get it updated. http://www.mccallie.org/athlet/index.htm, if that doesnt work just go to mccallie's website and you can find it. I think the tournament met everyones expectations, some good close matches. It looks like Father Ryan exceeded a couple expectations by beating a tough Mccallie squad, and the Georgia team was for real. Congratulations to all the medal winners and all the teams that competed. There are going to be some good rematches to look forward too! Lovetowrestle
  13. What do you think about Kevin Baltz on any of the lineups? When I remember didnt he almost have Mctorry pinned? I know he lost, but it was a great match. what do u think about him on at least an honorable mention list?
  14. Its good to get a copy of the brackets before hand. All the hype about the tournament is on paper and I believe it is going to be a really tough tournament. In my opinion this tournament will be more to tough than either the D1 or D2 state championships! But that doesnt really say much, on the board the Bradley tournament has been called "weak", and I am not putting it in the same league as the Mccallie one, but it probably is as tough as the State Championship, maybe exaggerating a little, but thats how frustrated I am not seeing a combined indvidual state championship, but there are plenty more wrestling supporters like me wanting to see the split end, but that would start a whole new thread. But who do you think got some tough draws??? Who will be future medal winners??? OW and Best Match to see? Lovetowrestle
  15. Who is the BGA kid, this is the first I have heard about a pretty decent wrestler from BGA, i know they have a 160 that was solid last year. And a 103lb kid made a difference in the football program? What position did he play?? Good to hear a couple names from BGA.
  16. Thegatlin it looks like your younger brother did pretty well and they way it looks almost as close as you can get to a middle school state, but what all teams were there besides Baylor,CBHS,and Freedom. Where there any other Middle School teams there Such as Lipscomb, Nashville Catholic wresting, Brentwood, Woodland, Apollo, or even McMurray. Would love to see all the championship wrestlers names and schools if you have that information that would be great, because i know there is alot of middle tennesse wrestling teams, along with west and east tennesse teams just curious to see who all competed. Lovetowrestle
  17. I am sorry I was trying to post where the question was who handed Simpson his first loss!
  18. I think Phillip came back and defeated Morrow in the following year final at the Powerade Invitationaland I am not sure but deffeated him one other time after that? Maybe someone has more info on that can back me up or put what really happened!
  19. I look at the National rankings year after year and want to know what we have to do to get a Tennessee team ranked. I know the McCallie tournament this weekend is a great way, especially if the team from Florida would have not backed out, but also helped if Bradley would settle what ever issues they have to settle to wrestle all the teams in the state. Not putting down Bradley, but would like to see every top team in the state get an oppurtunity to wrestle each other through out the year, to at least give State Champions from D1 and D2 a chance to battle out on the mat rather than fight it out with words over the message boards. I feel that Tennessee has been getting out of the state and dominanting a couple tournaments in the Southeast and even a couple D2 teams taking it to some Ohio teams. I just want to pick up the USA today and read a Tennessee team ranked in the top 25 and make other states want to come wrestle us. Does Bradley have a chance or Baylor have a chance to get nationally ranked if maybe winning state championships this year? I know Overton was in and out of the top 25 in the mid 90's and I think McCallie might have gotten a couple votes along with Ryan and Cleveland?? Who all knows about this?? On another note I was talking to a quote unquote old timer the other night at a wrestling match and brought up the National rankings and he said that if, former coach Frank Simpson of MBA didnt take the job at MBA where he had to take a couple sons out of Catholic schools in Middle Tennessee, that he might be an assitant coach at Father Ryan and sending all of his sons to graduate and wrestle for brother Pat Simpson wow would that have brought a National ranking or what? Those kids are definition great wrestlers and helped MBA build a prestige program and seem to be doing the same for Army right now. Does anyone know any truth about this?? Just trying to throw in a new thread instead of the best wrestlers in Tennessee history. What was the best team ever In Tenneessee???? year and team!! Lovetowrestle
  20. I didnt mean for my post to bring about a recruiting issue, those are some good points from you Tnwrestler, especially about the Williamson county area. I think its a little tougher to discuss when you bring in football recruting into it because their have been some schools that have been in more trouble with that problem, BA especially, many high school coaches can go watch the middle school games and tell them what they can offer to play football at their school, and that is the truth I have watched a kid leave a public school to go to a private school after being approached by a defensive corridinator. can tell when I think Baylor went on a Nation wide search for football players three years ago. And I remember when John Henderson wanted to go to Father Ryan when they were a power house and if he would have come chances are that Buck Fitzgerald, and Santanio Beard, would have probably come, but I dont know that situation. What I can tell that schools are doing a good job is getting middle school leagues up and going to get kids to get into the sport at an earlier age rather than just wrestling in High school i know Lipscomb, Clarksville, Father Ryan, Tullahoma, Overton and the Chattanooga teams are doing a good job on this. In some of the cases the high school just have feeder schools such as MBA, BA, and Father Ryan with numerous Catholic grade schools and now John Paul is going to get a good amount of kids. I think the recruiting issue about wrestling is getting blown out of proportion, and some of us dont have to get so uptight about ignorant posts about the situation, when a person is trying to bring down great programs or making an attempt to trash teams that have been so good and maybe their team not on top. This just my outlook and what do I know I just Lovetowrestle!
  21. I have to agree with McCallie, Ryan, and Baylor, but in the past dont forget about Overton. Bradley has been bringing it very strong along with a Soddy Daisy program! About the recruiting, thats just a good excuse to try to bring down a program, I know schools have got in trouble for recruting, but I think it would be tough for Ryan to recruit wrestlers because of their school being Catholic and very tough to get in you arent, I am assuming, and for McCallie and Baylor being boarding schools if a family has the money to send their child their to get a good education and wrestle for a very competitive team why wouldnt you do it? I am not sure there policy and like everything there are ways to get around it, but dont you have to take a pretty intense exam to get into those schools? I am not saying I would or wouldnt do it or trying to speak for others, but it seems pretty obvious it would be setting up a good future. I can name numerous public school kids that use false addresses all over the state to go wrestle for public schools is that not recruting? I dont like getting into arguments on here or calling individual teams or wrestlers out, but i know for a fact where a couple families that have sent kids to Overton to wrestle that dont live in that zoning for schools. It is all over the country lying about where they live! But Hey I just lovetowrestle what do I know??
  22. Those are MBA scores from the Harrison Duals, looks like the Big Red did pretty well with the situation with they are with some of the football players just getting in the groove of the wrestling season. Good luck to MBA
  23. Oak Hills, Ohio L 36-30 Caleb Midland, WV W 72-0 Campbell County, KY W 31-30 Harrison, Ohio L 43-30 Consolation Finals: Hamilton, Ohio W 51-23

    upsets

thegatlin, who all is competeing in Memphis this weekend?? Can you post the brackets or is it just dual matches? If you could post results that would be great!
  25. I dont think that a Clarksville freshmen wrestled a Father Ryan kid, because they were in Ohio at the Harrison duals along with MBA and the way it looks both teams did well. Maybe the Ryan freshmen or JV were competing in a tourney some where, but it is good to hear Clarksville having some good freshmen, they did a few more kids to step up and get that program where it was a couple years ago and it sounds they are going to be a strong team this year. Good luck to Clarksville.
