  1. Not the same thing. Everyone knew Alcoa would beat DCA. Trenton was definitely hyped. DCA is definitely a Top 5 team in 2A (as was CPA). How about the fact that Westview was rated #2 or 3 all year in 2A? Can you say overrated? I went to the game and Trenton was nowhere near GP's league. Trenton's defense was no match for GP's speed on offense, and Trenton's offense was ineffective. Why? They have good athletes, but their offensive schemes were too simplistic and predictable. Once again, coaching is the biggest factor for winning and losing in high school, not athletes. Trenton had no answers for GP's offense and their offense fooled no one on GP's side. Harper is an impressive athlete, but he was not as good as he was built up to be. If he is a Mr. Football candidate, Conner Lowery from CPA should have been.
  2. See the bold print above I added to your post. You are suggesting the key to winning is to do exaclty what CPA did to GP. CPA did win time of possession, the problem is that GP seems to thrive on long yardage and their speed still kills you. CPA had them in 3rd and long several times and they still broke long runs. However, CPA gave up 6 TD's in regulation - 1 kickoff return - 1 long pass on 3rd and long - 2 other long runs - and one short run after a long run. GP didn't win time of possession but they are so explosive it doesn't matter. I can't prove it, but I still think CPA was the 3rd best team in the state and would beat Peabody, so I have to take GP. The west has yet to prove they can beat Middle or East Tennessee the last few years.
  3. I get so tired hearing about how private schools can "pick and choose" and that is why they have an advantage in sports. That would only be true if: 1. the students were chosen based on their athletic ability. That is NOT the case at CPA (don't know about other schools). For example, both of my sons went to CPA for 12 years. One had no athletic skills at all and the other played football but not until his junior year. He was never projected to be a good player, but became one. He would never have been "picked" because of his athletic skills. 2. A large % of the students who were granted admission (i.e., "picked") ended up playing sports. That is not the case as less than 25% of male students play football. 3. Students were "picked" after they have proven they were good athletes. That is not the case as most football players start school in k-3 grade, before they can be projected as good players. 4. Students don't have to meet other admission requirements. That is not the case at CPA as the admission waitlist is sometimes long, and families who go to the church (CLC), or have siblings already at the school, get priority. I know this post should be on the private/public board, but I didn't bring up the issue on this board. I think most of the people who complain about the privates are the "arm chair quarterbacks" anyway, who need an excuse the players don't want. The players want to prepare, work hard, get better, and prove they can win against any and all odds, without excuse. If they do that, they will really be prepared for fighting the battles life brings them when they have a perceived disadvantage, rather than complain about life being unfair. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. Please read the CoachT rules and quit posting in all caps.
  5. I'd love to see DCA win, but I predict: Alcoa- 42 DCA - 28
  6. It is a 2-man race. If GP wins it all, volcamry42 wins contest. If Alcoa wins it all, fadepattern wins the contest. No one else has a mathematical chance. Bertier, thanks for putting this together. I enjoyed being involved. It's ironic that as a huge Region 5 fan, I picked against DCA (the team I wanted to win) and it cost me the contest. Go, DCA and GP. Let's have an all Region 5 finals.
  7. OK, I give up. What does this post mean? I haven't even posted on this game, and I am not a GP fan. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Anyway, IMO, when you get to the semis, games will be tight and you will have some surprises. I believe a team that can put 40 on Milan can beat GP, so this game will be a matter of who plays the best and makes the least mistakes. I say GP wins, but my opinion is based on their proven ability this year to pull out big wins against really good teams in the 4th quarter.
  8. Here how I figure it: New leaders: Volcamry42: 78 Fadepattern: 78 Previous leader (picked York) Divepix: 76 4 tied at 74 points Eliminated for sure: mkd24, jangel, curiousdave After further review, only Volcamry42 and Fade pattern can win because most of the remaining contestants have all picked the same semis and finals. So it is a 2-man race. If GP wins it all, volcamry42 wins contest. If Alcoa wins it al, fadepattern wins the contest.
  9. hmmmmm - you can't read. I did not compare DCA to Maryville. I said, "other than Maryville, DCA will be the best team Alcoa has played". That means I said Maryville is better than DCA. You are right. Your comment was not needed.
  10. I'm not stupid enough to not realize their starters are not giving up all those points. But I said, Alcoa's defense is giving up more points and their 2nd team is still Alcoa, not another team. Everyone knows Alcoa is the class of 2A and the favorite, but the game with DCA will still be played, this is still football, upsets can happen, and other than Maryville, DCA will be the best team Alcoa has played this year. I admire Alcoa's program and dominance, but no one is unbeatable forever. That's part of what makes the game fun.
  11. But the question is: don't you get tired of being wrong? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  12. Are you as confident picking against GP this week as you were last when when you picked HC, who lost by 20+? If Peabody has the Vick of HS, CPA has the Tebow (Lowery) and GP was good enough to overcome him.
  13. You're right, you can say anything you want. I made the wrong assumption that you wanted your posts to make sense. My bad. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. Well, I think my run is over. I have "sweet sorrow". Picked York, but wanted to see DCA win. I lost 2 of 4 games, so my run in this contest is probably over. Should have hung with Peabody one more week.
  15. DCA is the underdog, but I do believe they will score over 20. If they get a couple of breaks, who knows?
  16. You can't say: "Not to take anything away from DCA", then say:"they weren't all that great". That's a contradiction. Face it, you got waxed. I'm sure York didn't play that well. That's what happens when you play a better team.
  17. Boo-Hoo. How about some cheese with that whine? /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I know. Why don't we just multiply them all the way up to the college level so there is no way you have to ever play a private? Seriously, Camden was much better this year because they learned last year that they would have to really improve their program and team to compete in the playoffs. They accepted the challenge, worked hard, and almost beat GP. Unlike you, they decided to do something rather than make excuses. You should follow your team's example and understand that success in life is learning to deal with reality rather than make excuses and complain about disadvantages.
  18. C,mon, Antwan, anyone could make that post. You're usually more insightful than that. I'm disappointed in you. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> It does seem Alcoa's defense is giving up a few more points this year than usual. I won't count DCA out yet. After all, who would have thought Maryville would have almost lost last week? And DCA will be the best team Alcoa has played all year in 2A. They will be favored and should be, but stranger things have happened.
  19. No doubt, at this point, Alcoa is the class of 2A statewide. However, how about Region 5? Two of the final 4 with DCA and Goodpasture, and CPA gave Goodpasture its best game on the playoffs. DCA only team to best Goodpasture this year, and CPA only team to beat DCA this year. 5-2A by far the toughest region in 2A. An argument could be made that they have the #2,3 and 4 best teams in 2A this year. Good luck to DCA and Goodpasture next week.
  20. Good call. You won on both counts.
  21. I don't know. I had enough trouble figuring out the stuff I already did. Just easier to copy someone else's pick than make my own. 48 sounds good, though. I think it will be a good game. I don't know if cold weather will affect DCA passing game (which is a big advantage for them), but it could lower score. So, I say 28-20 DCA.
  22. I know you picked 48, that's why I did. Then you can't beat me in a tie-break. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. Yes, that is what the playoffs are SUPPOSED to be about; unfortuntely, the new Z-Plan reads like this: "two teams of known equal talent, who had already or just played each other, meeting Friday night with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser (that is better than most winners) going home, where the fiasco repeats itself." /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" Sorry, I couldn't resist. Best of luck to all the fine teams that remain and congratulations on their accomplishments.
  24. I heard you thrive under pressure, especially when the payoff is as great as it is in this contest. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> My point prediction for this week is: 48
