  1. First it is not a student based site. It is a site for those who care and are interested in high school sports. Many of the post come from fathers and coaches. Secondly, you have never read a post by me concerning Knoxville football since I have never posted anyhting about high school sports in Knoxville. Finally, my comment was merely how poor the heavyweight class was this year in DII. Regardless of how poor the talent was, each kid worked his tail off to get there and they should be proud. Having siad that it still doesn't make the heavyweight talent any better this year. neither is what I said an idictment if wrestiling as I beleive some of the lower weight were excellent.
  2. mles, To begin with this is an opinion board and I merely stated mine. Why do yoy feel the need to call someone an idiot because they have a different opinion. Secondly, I dare say you have not read any other messages from me since it has been a considerable time since I posted anything, and that was on the football board. You are correct I do not wrestle, but my sons have and I have probably seen and been around a great many more matches than you have having spent mearly every weeknend in a gym somwhere for 10 years. In years past, the heavyweights that were on the mat this past weekend would have been pinned within minutes. Can you imagine what a Scott Wells, Bubba Miller or even Gordon Berry would have done to any of these guys. Wouldn't have been pretty that's for sure. The only person who came across like an idiot my friend was... well I won't crawl in there with you.
  3. In my opinion it's a sad state of affairs for heavyweight wrestling that either one of them was in the finals!!!
  4. I guess BA and the rest of the "high school only coaches" should just quit now. Ryan did lose a good coach when Jack left, but more importantly they lost somebody who the kids could communicate with. Also Jim Miller is on the staff and he played in a pretty good college program.
  5. I think they only graduate 5 this year.
  6. Ryan's problems began when the current board assumed power. None of the exisitng board were athletes in high school. Eddie Krenson realized the direction the school was heading and packed his bags. When the new headmaster showed up he informed the student body of his extracurricular interest first of which was the band. Athletics came in somewhere around 7 or 8. Next he allowed the associate principal(a priest) to assume too much power, who was also not an athlete. He is also the individual who makes decisions on need based financial aid. Not many if any atheltes qualify regardless. (remember the divison they are in gives need based assistance) Next the individual in question expelled 5 Sophomores (who would now be seniors)for a relatively minor incidence for 2 1/2 semesters, insuring they would either not play football as juniors or not come back to Ryan. 4 of the 5 would have started both ways for the last two years and did not return to Ryan. 3 of the 5 never played on a football team that ever lost to a BA or MBA junior high or freshman teams. This was the nucleus of the team that won the freshman city championship. Last year concerned alumni, recognizing the state of the athletic program, asked several of the longtime supporters to meet and figure out what the problem was and how it could be resolved. One individual who had been instrumental in raisng money, building, and moving Ryan to the new campus expressed his concern over the lack of facilities and commitment and was immediately rebuffed by the headmaster. He advised the headmaster that he would not be back. He has since become very heavily involved in JP II. In the next 3-4 years JP II will become dominant. One final note the Bishop has pretty well focused most of his efforts on JP II which he considers his project. I beleive Ryan's reign is over for awhile if not forever. I feel for Jemison he has been dealt a hand he can't win. Good athletes always make good coaches.

The rule is 19 by August 1st. There is an 8 semester rule, where a student can play 8 semesters.
  8. Not sure where my post went, anyway. A good player on a poor team gets zero recognition. To make matters worse they get double and triple teamed most of the time.
  9. Pat Tubbs NCS knocked 2 or 3 out including own team.
  10. I haven't seen Lewis County, but I have seen Harpeth and if Harpeth is the best in the Region it's going to be a down year for the region.
  11. While there is no question GP has the better team, if for no other reasons superior numbers, they were in shock. Last year they played starters a couple of series and put in 2's and 3's. This year when they both pulled starters it was 13-13. If they played 10 times GP would probably win 10, but give those NCS kids credit, almost all starters have to play both ways.
