  1. Surely you are not serious about this statement?
  2. How about this? An athlete is standing in line for lunch. A student pushes him against the wall. He pushes the student back. Both are put in the in school suspension. The athlete is not allowed to participate in athletics that day. The home schooled student is at home. His little brother pushes him against the wall. He pushes the little brother back. Mom says, "Stop that." The athlete is allowed to participate in athletics that day. Doesn't seem fair to me.
  3. Many schools have attendance requirements for their athletes. If the student does not attend school they may not participate in extra-curricular activities that day. Since there is no way to monitor that with the home schooled student, are we not putting a heavier burden on the student who attends the school than the one who is home schooled. Presently all students have to meet eligibility requirements before participating in sports. This is done by checking school records such as grades, attendance and behavior. This is not an option for the host school with home-schooled students. Would the school have access to their records? Public and private schools alike have a code of conduct that all students must follow in order to participate. Students who do not attend the school would not have the same rules. This would again be a disadvantage for those who attend the public school. Student-athletes may only play for the school in which they are zoned. This is very easily monitored. My understanding of the bill is that the home-schooled student will be able to play for a school in their area that offers a particular sport. This would allow the student to play football for one school, basketball for another school and soccer for a third. This is not an option for the public school child. He or she can only play for their own school or a school that has a pre-established cooperative program. This would allow the home-schooled student more options than are available to the public school student.
  4. I started this thread and it seems that you have moved away from the point. I stated that 3 single A public schools won championships in which they were allowed to compete. That's 3 out of 16. This wasn't a public/private argument. It was just stating the facts that the single A public school is not very competitive as a rule in the TSSAA sports. This is not a one year thing. It has been going on the last 8-10 years. To answer another statement, private schools make up about 20 percent of those competing at the single A level. One argument is the private schools used to be the whipping boy. Those days are over. Our society is not going to wake up one day and say, "I think we should all go back to the small public school again. We don't like this private atmosphere." This is not a football argument as some want to say. It is a total athletic program argument. I would really like to see the single A public schools be in a group all to themselves. No double A schools and no private schools. After all they are all very similar. They generally are in rural areas. They don't dominate athletically. Yes they may do well in one sport but that's it. If they can't win then too bad. At least the playing field would be as level as possible. Just my opinion.
  5. The TSSAA competitive year is complete. Let's look at all of the championships that the single A schools could compete in. The school listed was the state champion in that event. Congratulations to all champions! Boys golf - Hixson Girls golf - Davidson Academy Volleyball - David Lipscomb Football - Donelson Christian Academy Boys Soccer - Christian Academy of Knoxville Girls Soccer - Franklin Road Academy Boys Basketball - Middleton Girls Basketball - Peabody Girls Cross Country - David Lipscomb Boys Cross Country - Elizabethton Girls Bowling - Walker Valley Boys Bowling - Smyrna Girls Track - Mitchell Boys Track - Martin Luther King Baseball - University School of Jackson Softball - Goodpasture That is 16 sports that single A schools competed in. Single A public schools won only 3 of those, both basketball and girls track. There is where the single A public schools base their argument over the unfair advantages that other schools have. I'm not talking about recruiting, funding, facilities, parents or better kids. I'm just stating facts from the TSSAA web site. Under the system that was in place during the 2004-2005 school year, the single A public school could not be competitive. We will see what the new year brings.
  6. What a classless statement. The Tigers from MP can be proud of their season. Afterall their players all came from MP. They didn't break any rules. They were happy to use the guys who walked down their halls.
  7. This was the rule several years ago. This is no longer valid. There is not a rule that allows a single transfer without being ineligible unless a move occurs. The old home must be totally shut down or rented out to a non-family member.
  8. Thanks, BBF. I've wondered why some people call Mt. Pleasant Rat Town. It's because they don't have a good hospitality room in basketball.
  9. From the records the seeding should be: Mt. Pleasant Wayne County Summertown/CA Santa Fe Perry County Clifton Zion/Collinwood Hampshire That would mean that Clifton would play Hampshire. Zion would play Collinwood. Wayne Cty would play the 1st winner and Mt. Pleasant would play the second winner. THe other games would be determined by who is 3rd or 4th. I don't know right now.
  10. How about the Dennis kid? I think he is a junior. He can shut down any shooter in the district. He can also drain the 3. The Mcneece kid can also shoot the 3. They just won't have a big man next year.
  11. As a casual observer of this game, I really enjoyed it. I thought SF would have won if Sims had played. Just kidding.
  12. How can you say that they usually make an early exit in the district. Last year they were the second seed. They came in second in the district and lost in the semis in the region to the region champ. This idea that they don't perform well in the postseason is false. They tend to end up where they belong or even better.
  13. I think CA wins this one in the "Pit". I will be there to watch. Don't really care who wins. Just want to see a good game.
  14. So many of these posts are typical. You can't beat Mt. Pleasant so just make fun of them. Why not be happy that young people are playing the game hard and finding some success. So your team isn't as good as Mt. Pleasant this year. So what. Maybe yours will be better next year. These things always go in cycles. I've seen Mt. Pleasant play about six times this year. I've not seen any cockiness from their players. They just play hard and shake hands at the end. Why can't you fans do the same thing. Coach Boyd seems to be a class act and his team follows his lead. Good luck Tigers!
  15. I said, "Enough said" but it didn't work for me. I was just commenting that the person made a pretty good prediciton. Maybe he had a crystal ball and could tell that your best player was going to quit. Hmm
  16. It is called a prediction. Looks like a pretty good one to me.
  17. Rank Team W-L Record Win Percentage 1 Mt. Pleasant 12-0 100.00% 2 Wayne Co. 10-2 83.33% 3 Columbia Academy 8-4 66.67% 4 Summertown 8-4 66.67% 5 Perry Co. 7-5 58.33% 6 Santa Fe 7-5 58.33% 7 Frank Hughes 5-7 41.67% 8 Collinwood 2-10 16.67% 9 Zion Academy 1-11 8.33% 10 Hampshire 0-12 0.00% Enough said.
  18. No sarcasm whatsoever. MTSU82 has the right to "feal" that way. I have the right to my opinion also. I just had some facts to back mine up. It was more than a feeling. Santa Fe would be battling for 5th at best behind S'town, WC, C'wood and PC. They have already lost to MP too.
  19. How can you say that? Santa Fe is 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the district. They have lost to 3 teams above them in the district.
  20. My parents used to do that in the 70's.
  21. I believe I started this topic by stating facts concerning those schools who qualified for the state tournament and how private schools are dominating the sport in class A/AA. The all-state soccer team has now been released. It is dominated by players who attend private schools. I know many will bash this post because of what I am writing. Note I have not made any remarks like others have made about the "evil" private schools or the "poor" public schools. I'm just stating facts. All-state soccer players 21 represent private schools 10 represent public schools 68% attend private schools 32% attend public schools That still looks like domination to me.
  22. Have you checked your map? Huntland and Moore County are a little more than 30 minutes for you. In fact you might need to leave on Thursday night.
  23. Give me a list of the private schools who play under the AAA classification.
