  1. Hey...it's Christmas......no hating until next week.
  2. I'm fairly certain we're on the same plan as Tennessee. I think we were one year behind in adopting it. If I'm wrong maybe someone will straighten me out.
  3. Eagles battle back to win Kyle Maynard Duals December 22, 2010, 8:05pm By Brandon Brigman GNWA Correspondent bsbrigman@gmail.com SUWANEE — Mac Bennett is no stranger to big matches. The Collins Hill senior has wrestled against some of the best teams across the country over the last three years. So when Collins Hill led by just one going into the final match against Baylor (Tenn.) in the Kyle Maynard Duals on Wendesday, he never flinched. Bennett used a first-period pin over Timothy Shober to give Collins Hill a 39-32 victory in the finals over Baylor. "It wasn't really me. I mean, the credit really goes to (Matthew) Connell for his win," Bennett said. "That match put us over the top. He took the pressure off me and I didn't have to pin, just win." Collins Hll regained the championship of the event it hosts in honor famed alum Kyle Maynard, who wrestled for the Eagles in the early 2000s. Collins Hill lost in the finals of last year's tournament to nationally ranked Brandon (Fla.). "We had to bring it back home," Bennett said. "Kyle is such a great guy and I've got to know him a lot lately." Collins Hill (17-0) came into the tournament fresh off a win at the Midwest Classic in Kansas City and ranked No. 18 in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News. The Eagles led Baylor 15-12 after Nick Holbert (pin), Sean Russell (decision) and Todd Headlum (forfeit) picked up wins. Then the shocker of the night happen when Collins Hill's best wrestler and two-time state champion Bazell Partirdge was pinned by Zach Watson, a Tennessee state champ, in the second period. It's the first time in his high school career Partridge has been pinned. "That kid is a super stud," Collins Hill coach Josh Stephen said of Watson. "(Partridge) isn't used to losing, especially being pinned. It was a sign of bad things to come." Collins Hill lost the next four matches to trail 29-15. Then Dustin Ellis and Andrew Krawulski came through with big pins to put Collins Hill back in the match. "We knew our strength was in the middle of the lineup and we tried to build a big enough lead to hold them off," Baylor coach Ben Nelson said. "They are just a quality program and we know it's always going to be a close match with them." Connell came through with a pin two matches later to put Collins Hill ahead 33-32 and then Bennett secured the win. It was a sweet victory for Bennett after being pinned in big duals against Brandon (Fla.) and Blair Academy (N.J.) last season. "That was more exciting than I wanted it to be," Stephen said. "It made the hero out of some other kids that normally are not." The dual was might not have been as close if the Eagles weren't without defending state champion Drew Ferugson-Mitchell and state runner-up Spencer Rickman, who had to miss the tournament for personal reasons. The Eagles cruised through pool play of the tournament, defeating Hayfield (Va.) 72-12, Cedar Cliff (Pa.) 40-22 and Ola 55-16. Collins Hill then beat Hillcrest (S.C.) 55-17 in the semifinals. 4. If I get a box score I'll post it. Yes....no Ferguson or Rickman....but that doesn't take away from Baylor's day. They looked good all day. I think Father Ryan was going for 5th, but I didn't see the match outcome. Valdosta beat FR and Baylor beat Valdosta handily. Watson, Manley, and Doster looked great and the 285 stuck CH's.
  5. Baylor looked great today at the Kyle Maynard Duals. The match of the day was Collins Hill's Partridge against Watson from Baylor........and it wasn't a match.....Watson destroyed him before he pinned him. Collins Hill trailed until the last 2 matches. Hats off to Baylor......great job today.
  6. Beloved member of wrestling community, Hennebaul, dies Reporter: By Brandon Brigman Walt Hennebaul’s motto was simple — give back to wrestling. That adage spread through his family and the Georgia wrestling community. When Hennebaul was diagnosed with melanoma last year, his wrestling family wanted to give back to him. The Walt Hennebaul Open was hosted by Mill Creek on Monday, but Hennebaul was unable to make it after dying early Monday morning. He was 70. “It’s kind of ironic that he died the same day as the tournament,†said Bud Hennebaul, Walt’s son. The tournament will continue today at Mill Creek with proceeds going to the Hennebaul family. Walt is survived by his wife Marianne, his five children, Patty, Bud, Terri, Jerry and Rick, as well as 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. “It finally got the best of him,†Bud said of the cancer battle. “He’s a lot better off right now.†The family has planned visitation for Hennebaul on Dec. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Flanigan’s Funeral Home in Buford. “Everyone is hurting right now,†former Collins Hill coach Cliff Ramos said. “They lost an important part of the sport.†Hennebaul and his family have been synonymous with Georgia wrestling for more than 30 years. The Pennsylvania native helped start the Parkview youth wrestling program in the late 1970s, when his three sons became accomplished wrestlers. He later started the North Gwinnett youth program in the mid-1980s. A board member of the Atlanta Takedown Association, Hennebaul was instrumental with the organization bringing the state wrestling tournament to the Arena at Gwinnett Center. “I’m not sure what that is going to be like without him,†Bud said. Hennebaul was inducted into the Georgia chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004. It’s the third hall of fame for Hennebaul, who was also recognized by his high school, Lake Lehman (Pa.), and the YMCA Hall of Fame. “He’s made a big impression in Georgia and his home state of Pennsylvania. He’s done a lot for the sport in both states,†Ramos said. “He’s one of those people that you know is passionate and knowledgeable of the sport.â€
  7. Hey now......you told me going for sarsaparilla was exercise too....
  8. Does then mean you're out of the pokie now or that the restraining order has been lifted? Black and Gold.....Texas evidently hasn't seen your Saints celebratory attire.... CH is ok...just had trouble getting full line up together. Wrestling out in KC without Bradtmueller. Up there Pope looks like their doing ok without Climmons.....he's tough, tough, tough.
  9. Aren't you both Bradley boys?....I mean before Raider76 married into money.
  10. And our JV is busy wrestling in the Gwinnett County Tournament....
  11. I was hoping to see Brooks Climmons (Pope) and TJ Duncan put on a show, but from what I hear Brooks won't be back until after the 1st of the year.
  12. You make a good point....one of the odd things about Collins Hill is that they haven't had any football players on the varsity in a while. That's probably a product of year round wrestling.
  13. Final Match Collins Hill 42 - Soddy Daisy 24
  14. Collins Hill 49 - McCallie 17 Bennett has been there since the 3rd match. He took the ACT at Bradley. Bradtmueller has been held out today to get ready to the tourney in Kansas City.

  20. Guess I should come clean......Collins Hill wrestled the Georgia 3A state champions last night.....Gilmer....with some starters out CH won 50 - 18......and beat Pope....#1 4A...earlier this season 47 - 18.
  21. I'd be surprised if McCallie doesn't win pool #4.
  22. I wasn't there....but here's the top 3: Final team scores: 1. Brandon 293 2. Collins Hill 213.5 3. Springstead 191 ....no more thread hijack.
  23. We needed it.......got whooped up on last weekend in a tournament and only one guy won. We'll have to put the pieces back together and maybe can come up with 7 kids! We thought it would be an easy tournament....since it was called the Cougar tournament........thought there'd be old ladies wrestling.
  24. LOL at Tex.......now you boys be nice to Collins Hill Saturday......it's a rebuilding year.
