  1. Here was Cliff's response to the question about 2005 vs. 2009 CH teams. ........2009...2005 103.....6.........0 (Partridge pins Clayton) 112....10........0 (Sawchuk majors Smithson) 119....14........0 (Mitchell majors Black - Black and Hunt are about equal) 125....17........0 (Allgood beats Vercelote - could easily be a major) 130....17........3 (Knapp decisions Willard) 135....17........9 (Parker pins Wheeler or any other 135 thrown out there) 140....20........9 (Smith beats Gray in a close match) 145....20......12 (Ben beats yonger brother Sam and then they fight afterwards) 152....24......12 (Tiller majors Flaherty) 160....30......12 (Knapp pins White) 171....34......12 (Holbert majors Roney in an ugly match) 189....40......12 (Bennett pins Gribbins - would have been a Gribbins win in December, but Mac was a different wrestler at state) 215....40......15 (Stadulis beats CJ in the match of the night. This time I don't go to the table) 285....40......21 (Leon pins Thomas. Then he gets in trouble at home). I love his comments. The 215 finals in Ga. was about as controversial as yours.
  2. I picked 05 because that's what comparison was for CH 05 vs CH 09 so I thught BC 05 vs. BC 09 might be ok.
  3. They asked this question about the CH team and I thought that some of the answers were pretty interesting. How would this year's Bradley Central team do against the team from 2005 in a mythical dual?
  4. Didn't the modern version of the TSSAA state tournament start around 1961? Before that they would be Mid-South championships...right? We may need b.b.b to answer.

    Summer Duals

Who is in? I'd love to come up there.
  7. Looks like Bradley Central broke the tie this year: Bradley Central 10 - Dual Wrestling: 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 9 - Traditional Wrestling: 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009 Baylor 6 - Dual Wrestling: 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 12 - Traditional: Wrestling 1962, 1978, 1979, 1981, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 I was sort of shocked by the most state titles ranking: Baylor 103 Brentwood Academy 46 Girls Preparatory School 38 Father Ryan 36 Oak Ridge 35 Montgomery Bell Academy 33 Bradley Central 33
  8. I don't know.....is 50 - 3 good enough? I'm guessing he'll go 160 or 171.....but because of his strength he has wrestled up to 215. He should have been down near 152 - 160, but when you have Knapp and Tiller that's not a happy place. We've got another kid that's a little lighter than Bubbles and a 3 time King of the Hill Champion and is 57 - 1.....in the same situation...tough competition. Got another kid that was Gwinnett County champion last year behind TJ Mitchell......and got an undefeated kid behind our state champion 103 that's probably the 2nd best 103 in Georgia. Some of you that have younger kids have probably seen him.....Drew Ferguson...5 time youth state champion. It's a tough room. Thanks for the comments Raider76.
  9. I don't see his name in any of the brackets. You can check here: http://www.atawrestling.com/results.aspx

    Attendance

Don't know if it helps or not, but we ran through 1,876 matches in 3 days....all double elimination.
  11. You know that's not true.....the middle school has 4,000. 2 local transfers.....can't do much about the two from Florida and Virginia. 1 local one his coach left the school and is now with us don't blame him....other one....is a burr under my saddle. So I guess if I moved up there BC wouldn't take Bubbles?
  12. Stop that...or we'll come wrestle your guys.
  13. Man....I gotta like texas23 now......
  14. http://www.gwinnettdailypost.com/main.asp?...ArticleID=56570 Green Monster By Brandon Brigman Staff Writer DULUTH - There was talk that Collins Hill had the best wrestling team ever in Georgia last season. If there was any doubt about last year's team, the 2008 team put it to rest. Collins Hill had five state champions, 12 state placers and easily won the Class AAAAA traditional state championship on Saturday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. "This is the best team I've ever coached," Collins Hill coach Cliff Ramos said. "I do think what we did is a good stamp for being the best team in Georgia." The Eagles won their fourth traditional state title with 242 points. Walton was second with 102 points and Camden County was third with 94.5. Peachtree Ridge placed seventh (65), Grayson was ninth (58) and Dacula was 10th (58). It's the largest margin of victory in the Class AAAAA state tournament ever, beating the previous mark of 43.5 points set by the Eagles in 2005 and 2008. Collins Hill's 12 state placers is also a AAAAA record and its five state champions is a Gwinnett County record for one season. "I would say we're better than last year's team," 140-pound state champ Joel Smith said. "We came back with a few more guys that have made us better." The Eagles' five state-champion showing was the culmination of perseverance for Gary Tiller, redemption for Smith and T.J. Mitchell, greatness for Taylor Knapp and a glimpse of the future for Bazell Partridge. "I'm glad that it's over," Tiller said. "Just everything I've gone through this season." Tiller tore the ACL in his left knee during football season and then injured his left shoulder a month before the state meet. It was a constant struggle for him to not only battle his opponents, but his injuries. "It's a great feeling," Tiller said of his 8-5 win over Centennial's Steve Sealy at 160. "But I can't take the credit for it. There's so many people that helped me along the way. I wasn't even sure if I was going to wrestle this year. I just thank God, all the people that prayed for me, my physical therapist T.J. Sellers and my coaches. I think they believed in me more than I did." Smith and Mitchell got their state titles after Smith was pinned in last year's finals and Mitchell was upset in the quarterfinals. "I was hoping to get the pin to get complete redemption," Smith said of his 11-5 win over Milton's Matt Schneider. Mitchell won a state title as a freshman at Class AA Wesleyan and got his first AAAAA title with a 12-2 win over Dacula's Noah Hunt at 119. The win was a far cry from the overtime win Mitchell got over Hunt at the state sectionals the previous week. "I made sure I dominated this time and that's what I did," Mitchell said. Knapp, a Virginia Tech signee, won his third state championship, becoming the fourth Eagle to reach the feat. "This was probably the most fun of the three," Knapp said. "Just because of all the fans and I'm not the only one who won." Knapp turned his typical shaggy hair-do into corn rows for the finals and controlled Peachtree Ridge's Alan Gigoaleav most of the match for a 12-4 victory. Partridge could be the next Eagle to join Knapp as a three-time state champ as the sophomore won his first state title. He beat Camden County's Austin Trott 13-1 at 103 pounds. C.J. Collins was the Eagles' only finalist who did not win. An escape with two seconds left by Valdosta's Allen Scruggs gave Collins a 3-2 loss at 215 pounds. The Eagles also had a third-place finish from John Allgood (125), fourth-place finishes from Caleb Sawchuk (112), Sam Hoppenbrouwer (145) and Mac Bennett (215), a fifth-place finish from Nick Holbert (171) and a sixth-place showing from Thomas Delain (285). "What Bennett and Holbert did is impressive," Ramos said. "You don't see many sophomores place in the upper weights." Collins Hill's 12 state placers are a Class AAAAA state record, which is not surprising when you consider some of the other accomplishments the Eagles had this season. "People speculate this is the best team ever in Georgia," Tiller said. "I think our performance this weekend went a long way." Collins Hill won the Class AAAAA state duals in January over Pope and finished the season with a 28-3 dual record. The Eagles also shined at the national level, taking second at the Toshiba Midwest Classic in Kansas City and a top-11 finish at The Clash in Minnesota. They entered the state tournament ranked No. 22 nationally by Amateur Wrestling News. "What this team accomplished is probably more than I could have hoped for," Ramos said. Peachtree Ridge's Sam Kuntz was the only state champion from Class AAAAA that wasn't a Collins Hill wrestler. The Rutgers commitment used an overtime takedown to beat Walton's Jeff Olsen for the 189-pound state title. "It's a relief knowing that all of the hard work I put in has paid off," Kuntz said. Kuntz lost to Olsen earlier in the season 3-2, but with a new training regimen it help the senior win the state title after placing second last year. "His hard work paid off," Peachtree Ridge coach Danny Sinnott said. "Coach Patrick Maginn worked with him after practice for the last two weeks preparing him for that match." It's the fourth time in five years that Peachtree Ridge has had a state champion. Gwinnett County finished with 11 state champions and 43 state placers, which includes wrestlers from Class AA and Class A. Both are Gwinnett County records for the most in one season.

Come look me at the head table. They won't let me wear any Collins Hill stuff while I'm working so look for the camouflaged Army hat. Been a rough day for Collins Hill.....out of 13 in the quarters we only got 6 through to the finals......6 in the wrestle backs. So 12 out of 13 medal. I believe we've got the finals slated to begin at 5:00. Should be fun all 5 divisions at once. Brackets have been updated: http://www.atawrestling.com/results.aspx
  16. Did someone take a whiz in your Wheaties? You been kind of grumpy lately. Did you ever think it might be cheapest to run the traditional tournament in Chattanooga? Venues cost money...lots of money. Did you ever think with Baylor, McCallie, Soddy-Daisy, Cleveland, Notre Dame, Red Bank, East Ridge, Hixson, Bradley Central and others near by that they have a pretty good group of volunteers to run the tournament in Chattanooga? From my side I know what it's like to find 12 nice clocks if you don't happen to have them. Along with 12 really nice mats. What part of Tennessee has the best table workers? The best trainers? Where else are 15 sets of scales? A ton of mat tape? Where is the biggest referee association? There's more to running a tournament than the building. It's like AA (right BCB)....you need a big support group to support the tournament. It's allot more than location. Sorry for the rant, but I don't understand you guys hammering Chattanooga.
  17. Watch out....rumor has it the old man lies.
  18. Maybe they're secretly Georgia fans and want to come down and catch our finals on Saturday!
  19. I'd love to come back. My Dad still lives in Hixson......house is pretty empty.
  20. Email Cliff Fretwell and see if he'll set you up on Flowrestling to watch it....it's out there.
  21. One of the cool things the GHSA does every year is sit down with people like Bud Hennebaul and the Atlanta Takedown Association and ask what can we do to make things better. Out of that has come the combined state duals and state traditional tournaments. I think this is the 5th or 6th year I've helped run the tournament and worked with Gary Phillips from the GHSA and you couldn't ask for better guy.....He listens.
  22. You know Knapp and Fretwell wrestled at the Kyle Maynard Duals.....I tried to tell as many people as I could that were there who Fretwell is and that it would be a great match. Knapp won 7 - 2. The Allgood - Warrington match was a good one too. Allgood won 4 - 2. I knew that the Tennessee crown hadn't see Fretwell and Warrington.
  23. This was our 1st year for sectionals.....so with 2 sectionals of 4 regions each the top 8 go to state. We wrestled out to 10th place so this won't happen.
  24. Bummer....down here we would take the alternate and are doing that.
