  1. Lightning delay in Halls; I hear both coaches still want to play, but......
  2. Hopefully the forthcoming rain slows your speed down some irishman!!! If it is anything like the past two nights in Halls (about the time of kickoff nonetheless), more than an umbrella is going to be needed!
  3. Thoughts? Halls was embarrased at Union City. Gleason was handled at West Carroll. Tigers are home for the first time after three straight road games to start the season. Bulldogs are on the road for the second straight week. Gleason has won two straight and four of the last five in the series. This game comes down to WANT TO. As in I WANT TO beat XXXX. As in I WANT TO play 48 minutes and not just the first five when I fall behind 7-0. I've seen every game in this series for the last 10 years. When I speak of WANT TO, I speak of Halls. Not putting down Gleason in the least here, but not once have we not lined up across from the Bulldogs and not been quicker or bigger. I personally WANT TO beat Gleason more than any other team on our schedule. I'm tired of losing to Gleason; again, nothing against the Gleason folks, just tired of being on the losing side of this game. PS, Butchie is right when he suggested eating at the Lil General. If you are coming down 51 via 22 through Martin to UC, lots of places to eat in Dyersburg.
  4. Where is this board of Bigster's everybody is talking about?
  5. I sure hope UC is looking over us to Huntingdon! I didn't pick UC to win this district outright out of sheer lunacy. The one thing I want to see more than anything is our kids fighting hard every play. None of this "well UC is UC and we are going to lose anyway" crap. Play hard and if that's the way it is, so be it. But you don't ever know until you PLAY THE GAME!
  6. We've had a couple of cupcake games to start the season. For the fourth straight year we are at 2-0 looking for that elusive 3-0 start. This is our third of three straight road games to start the year. It's not September yet and I'm already tired of the road! We led Gibson County 28-6 and won 28-12. We should've scored 40+ but made too many mistakes; 11 penalties for just shy of 100 yards. We led Tipton Rosemark 35-6 and won 35-19. Again, mistakes kill us. We should've scored 50+. Penalties wipe two scores off the board: one a punt return and another which would have been our second kickoff return of the year. We were without our starting tailback in this one but his speedy backup ran for 240 yards. We were also without our starting nosetackle and fullback. I don't know the latest on the latter but the former should be back this week. We are faster than in years past and have ditched the spread for the I. We've got a receiver that is big and can carry defenders if we can get the ball in his hands. I'm concerned about our pass defense and the Tornadoes' veer confuses me so I know the players probably don't like it either. LOL Halls wants this game more than any other on its schedule. The Tigers led in the fourth last year but mistakes and turnovers turned it into a three score difference. I think for once we will be hungry, but UC scares the bejebees out of me. Our schedule goes from creampuffs to contenders in just one week. Who knows if we are ready; we have the tendency to take off too many plays and THEN if we get behind, well in years past it is heads hanging low and all whoa is me. IF they can get past that then maybe, just maybe, there will be a good game.
  7. I was pleasantly surprised and also disappointed in the way the game turned out. Defensively, we did really well for ourselves until late in the third when we seemed to hit a wall. We were outgaining the Pioneers something like 200 to 50 at halftime while up 13-0. We let a couple of chances slip past us; we could have easily been up 21-0 or more and could have easily won 40-6 except for mistakes. 11 penalties, but I will give them the benefit of first game jitters. We ran the kickofff back to start the second half to get that 21-0 lead, then GC answered. But I was more happy to see our guys respond and march right back for another score. The first three minutes of the fourth quarter took forever. When Gibson County scored then took the onside kick, you could almost feel the mojo going to the otherside of the field. We were lucky to stopy them on that drive and then ran the clock out for the most part. Looking forward to hopefully putting the hammer down on Rosemark this Friday and then see where we stand with UC in two weeks. At the least I want 2-1 and head into the Gleason game with a chip on our shoulders! After three straight roadies to start the season, I expect us to be drooling to play the Bulldogs at our place!
  8. Hey GCPioneer, how did your jamboree go last Friday night?
  9. Anybody have any news on how the new coach is going to do over in Dyer? Hopefully he will at least be 0-1 after this week, but I can't say that is a sure thing or not.
  10. I'm going with this: 1. Union City 2. Peabody 3. Humboldt 4. Lake County 5. Halls 6. South Fulton 7. Greenfield
  11. 14A gets two of the top five games of the day in today's Sun: Lake County vs Union City Trenton vs Greenfield Of course the LC - UC game is for the title, but there are several of us interested in the game between the Tide and Jackets.
  12. Amazing what a week makes. One week Halls got destroyed at home by UC and LC, then the next week they hit the pavement and win at Greenfield and Humboldt. I made the comment in this thread about a week ago (right after the two huge losses) that I thought Halls could play for a region spot if the cards fell right. Halls is getting better but like 007 said it doesn't hurt to shoot the lights out on certain nights either. I still think it comes down to seeding though; LC, UC and Humboldt will be virtually impossible to beat in an opening round district game. This is the most important 10 days of the season for Halls: home games against Peabody, Humboldt and Bradford. I think we can overtake Peabody because 1) we only lost by five over there in December and 2) their schedule is going to be impossible for them the last couple of weeks. If Halls can get that five seed and avoid the top three then anything is possible, but they must win tomorrow night IMHO.
  13. Halls has improved as the season goes along; it will be interesting to see how the Tigers perform come tourney time and if they can get out of this tough district. Of course I think the chances are better to improve enough to grab a 4 or 5 seed to avoid UC, LC and the 'Boldt. Those three have handed it to us pretty handily this season.
  14. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are going to the game tonight, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.....do NOT tell me the score of the Cardinals game. It is killing me having to miss it, but I will be there in Tiptonville tonight recording Game 7 on my DVR.
  15. Well I haven't had much to post about lately. This is always my favorite game of the year. It's a rivalry that goes way back to some fun years. Forget the quads and all this other playoff jargon. Back in the late 70s and early 80s we were lucky to get one of us in the playoffs and that would be when one would go 10-0 and the other 9-1 with the loss to the other. Halls played a very good defensive game last week in a 7-0 loss to Peabody. Other than the opening possession of the game when the Tide scored, Halls dominated the rest of the game but couldn't get into the end zone. Before Peabody got the ball back with a few minutes remaining against a frustated Halls D, yardage was over double in the Tigers' favor. Halls just couldn't get the extra first down to continue drives that continously ended around the 25 or 35 yard line of Peabody. The Falcons have a lot to play for tomorrow night in Tiptonville while the Tigers hope to play spoilers.
  16. As i did when UC came to town, I will let you have the "luxury box" and instead I will broadcast from the rooftop. I just hope you guys don't have a slew of coaches up there because otherwise it will be shaky.
  17. I just saw that Bigster. Your Falcons are in the same boat as my Tigers when it comes to the Jackson Sun; if you aren't from Madison or Gibson in this area then you don't make it at all. Zero mention of us and South Fulton tonight.
  18. I'm very interested in the outcome. Will LC be able to continue its stampede as it has in the early-going against KY teams or will a tested, winless Trenton team be a bump in the road? Should be interesting! I hope there are more postgame comments as have been pregame.
  19. A close loss and the others have been fairly one-sided...one question is what happened in that South Fulton game? Was the score not relative to the game? Just curious as to how it went down since my team is playing SF tonight.
  20. Week Three's Results in 14A: Humboldt 34 @ Jo Byrns 14 Lake County 41, Reidland, KY 20 South Fulton 42 vs Fulton City, KY 6 McKenzie 21, Peabody 14 Gleason 29, Halls 7 Huntingdon 55, Union City 20 West Carroll 47, Greenfield 3 14A Standings After Week Three: Humboldt 3-1 (1-0) Lake County 3-1 (1-0) Union City 1-3 (1-0) Peabody 0-3 (0-0) Halls 2-2 (0-1) Greenfield 0-3 (0-1) South Fulton 1-3 (0-1) Upcoming Week Four Games: Peabody @ Lake County Greenfield @ Union City Halls @ South Fulton Humboldt BYE Back to district action!
  21. I really thought we would blow the doors off Gleason last week. Sometimes the team with the bigger and faster players doesn't win because the kids on the other side of the ball are hungrier. The first half was atrocious. Both teams combined for about 110 yards. Gleason scored on a safety and a pick-six. Halls put together a drive right before halftime for some momentum. The Dawgs took it away with their first real drive on the opening possession of the 3rd quarter and you could just see the "oh no here we go" pouring out. As a friend said somewhere else, if we don't get rid of that attitude of "here we go again" then we are never going to get over this hump. We have a good football team but I think right now it is in our head. I wouldn't doubt the score that alumni picked one bit...I can only hope we snap out of it and come out with guns blazing and build a lead.
  22. Week Two's Results in 14A: Humboldt 21, South Fulton 13 Lake County 40, Greenfield 7 Union City 38, Halls 20 Peabody BYE 14A Standings After Week Two: Humboldt 2-1 (1-0) Lake County 2-1 (1-0) Union City 1-2 (1-0) Peabody 0-2 (0-0) Halls 2-1 (0-1) Greenfield 0-2 (0-1) South Fulton 0-3 (0-1) Upcoming Week Two Games: Peabody @ McKenzie Halls @ Gleason Union City @ Huntingdon Humboldt @ Jo Byrns Lake County vs Reidland, KY Greenfield vs West Carroll South Fulton vs Fulton City, KY Some tough games for District 14A this week!
  23. The final score was not indicative of how this game played out. UC led 19-13 at halftime, but we (Halls) scored with a little more than 4 minutes to play in the third for a 20-19 lead. The Tornadoes then went on an 11 minute drive to take a 25-20 lead with just over 5 minutes left to play. Halls ran the kickoff back to the UC 42, but a procedure call and a couple of incomplete passes ended the good field position possession. UC then scored another TD two plays later (Halls players were pretty dejected at that point), then Halls fumbled the ensuing kickoff and UC scored again one play later. UC pounded it inside with big Hyde the FB and then would bounce it outside to Lewis, who ended up scoring FIVE times! With all of that we had it at the Tornadoes 42 down five with 5 minutes left and should have taken advantage of it. We dropped one pass where the receiver was wide open and was seeing the endzone. It was a good football game. Our guys are getting better, but if we couldn't beat you this year then we may never beat you guys. I just hope we don't get down and roll into Gleason and lay an egg.
