  1. Coach Foe You are correct that Gibbs did lose to Union Co (Horace Maynard) in 1994. I apologize for that oversight. That was probably Maynardvilles best team ever. Union Co Co placed 4th in their region. Union Co lost in the first round to Gatlinburg-Pittman by a score of 44-8. Union Co was also in the playoffs in 2004 but did not beat Gibbs. The Un.Co team finished 2-3 in the region and 3-7 overall. They placed 4th in the region and lost to A-E in the first round 8-0. Congratulations on that win over Gibbs in 1994. Not bad--one win over Gibbs in 60 years. Hang in there. Good Luck, Union Co kids are great and deserve better just like the players at Gibbs do. Volnative--You hit the nail on the head. Maybe some day Gibbs will make a change. Maybe.
  2. Union County has never, never beaten Gibbs in a Football Game. They have wins in other sports but never in Football. They came close in 1982 but no win. Go up there and wear them out. It will be one of the 4 wins that you get. Other wins are Rutledge, Claiborne Co, and CAK. Good Luck and have a Great Year--in spite of the lack of coaching at Gibbs. By the way in order to have a rivalry you have to have two teams that have a chance to win. Not in this case. Union Co needs to drop Football.
  3. Does it matter? I am just a football fan. Everyone in Knoxville knows the history of the Gibbs Football Program and coaching staff. You keep working hard regardless of the lack of leadership up there. Dont let them ruin the fun of playing football.

    SD Cherokees

Gibbs is the worst Football Team in Knoxville. If South-Doyle does not beat them there needs to be some changes made in south Knoxville.
  5. Gibbbs 11--You do a good job at your position. We have seen you scrimmage and play. You are the Gibbs offense. Hang in there-we are proud of you. You all just dont have any coaching. Its been the same thing up there for about 23 years. Have fun with Union Co, Rutledge, Claiborne Co. Those are the teams that your two main coaches have been claiming as the glory wins for Gibbs. We feel for you and the other players there that have to endure that mess.
  6. Union County (Maynardville) has never beaten Gibbs in Football. They have wins over Gibbs in other sports but never Football. Union County needs to drop Football. Gibbs and Randy Carrol are lucky to have them on the schedule. Rutledge and Claiborne County also have been the lame ducks on the Gibbs schedule. Rutledge can put a decent team on the field some years but not this year. Gibbs will finish the season with 4 wins and 6 losses unless Randy and Steve screw it up.

    Gibbs

Gibbs will finish the 2005 football season with a 5 win/5 loss record. This will be the best finish in years. Gibbs has not had a winning football record since 1997. Hope this year is better. Good luck Eagles. Scott Co. -- weak Gibbs win Union Co.-- weak Gibbs win Halls -- down Gibbs loss CAK -- aver. Gibbs win S.Doyle -- down Gibbs loss Rutledge -- weak Gibbs win Claib.Co -- weak Gibbs win Carter -- down Gibbs loss Pig.Forge -- aver Gibbs loss Semour -- good Gibbs loss
  8. Where is the Gibbs/LC scrimmage and what time? Sounds like a good matchup. Thanks. Let me know asap.
  9. Where is the scrimmage and what time? Sounds like it good be interesting. Let me know asap.
  10. Who are you comparing Carol Mitchell to when you say she is the best in the state? Be proud of her but be realistic. She is ok but AAA softball is played at a higher level. Soddy Daisy, Beech and so many others have tougher schedules and their coaches are just as successful. Carol has done some great things at the AA level but her schedule is not on the level of other schools. She really lost her cool during the Marshall game. Her players did not respond well to her screaming in their faces. Instruction is better than intimidation. She is going to have to coach for the next few years. She does not have the athletes transferring in from the other schools that she has had in the past. Its easy to win with an all star team made up of other schools players like many of her previous teams have had.
  11. Gibbs HS Football Record One winning season in the past 11 and about to be 12 years. Does this say anything about the quality and the progression of the football program? Other programs at the school have been successful so the excuse that there are no athletes at Gibbs is not justified. 1993 6 wins - 6 losses 1994 1 win - 9 losses 1995 3 wins - 8 losses 1996 4 wins - 7 losses 1997 8 wins - 4 losses 1998 3 wins - 6 losses 1999 2 wins - 8 losses 2000 3 wins - 7 losses 2001 1 win - 9 losses 2002 4 wins - 6 losses 2003 2 wins - 8 losses
  12. That big computer pick of Kingston beating Gibbs by 13 sure didnt work out. The QB for Gibbs, Tyler Kitts, took that game over. The 2 deep secondary coverage that Kingston ran didnt get it done. Kingston got the ball back after Gibbs did their fake punt. Rock Gurney moved the ball but underthrew his receiver. He got picked as Kingston was driving for the winning touchdown with just about a minute in the game. Thats twice this season that Gibbs Carrol has ran the fake punt and not been successful with it. It hurt in both games. Gibbs coach is lucky this time that Gurney underthrew his reciever in the game and got picked of to finish the game.
  13. Powell and/or any other school is fortunate to have a man like Phil Wilks as a teacher and coach. He is an asset as a teacher, coach and positive role model for the students and athletes that he works with. His win/loss record does not sound like it reflects his overall effort and positive influences that he has had over the years. What about Larry Stephens? I know that he is also a fine individual, fine coach and positive role model. What is his history in the Football Coaching profession? He has been at Elon College, Maryville College, Heritage HS and now at Powell HS. Is this all his stops? How has he done at these schools as far as wins and losses?
  14. Phil Wilks of Powell is an excellent coach. He is definitely a positive role model for kids and definitely knows and can teach the game of football. Has he ever been associated with a winning program though? Winning games does not always define a "good" coach however. Again I say that Phil Wilks of Powell is top notch. Can anyone tell me his history as far as wins and losses. Also how about Larry Stephens at Powell. He is great with the players but what is his history. Both Stephens and Wilks have been at the high school and college level for a lot of years. Both know the game but someone out there tell us how they did at each school.
  15. I will have to agree with you on this one. He is great....great at tooting his own horn. He has an overall losing record, has not had a winning season in the past 11 years and has had too many altercations and near firings to count. Keep up the good work up there. Maybe they can beat the Claiborne and Grainger County teams and squeek one out against Scott and Jellico.
  16. Powell better get busy or it will be a long season. Halls, Central and Karns will be the dominant teams in the region. Powell is not playing well right now. They make a lot of errors and cannot hit with any power or consistently. The base running mistakes are rediculous. We watched them last night get pounded by Jeff Co and we heard that Bearden and Farragut have done the same. Its early so Powell better get busy. We like what they have done to their field at Powell though.

    powell

Right now Powell looks horrible. It may be a long season unless things change. The baseball and softball teams at Powell are playing terrible. There is no way that they can compete successfully in their region unless the attitudes and work habits change drastically. Has the baseball or softball team had at least 5 hits in a scrimmage yet? Have they played without making at least 6 errors in the field per scrimmage. It doesnt look good for either team. The baseball and softball fields are really looking good though.
  18. Has anyone seen the Gibbs Girls Team play this season? They just dont have the fundamental skills to compete. The old saying that winners are made in the off season is very evident with their team. They did not put in the gym time like they should. Maybe they will next summer. Of the teams in Knoxville area only Carter is worse. Coach Bray and Conley better push 'em alittle harder. The little guards, McNutt and Tolliver are the leading scorers. They have the heart and are improving with each game. The post, Rona is improved from last year but still struggles. Fulton and Powell have really done a good job of offseason practice. Their girls are much improved with fundamentals. Coach Mercer and Coach Young have done a great job getting their girls ready to play. The Karns team looks better also. They have a new coach there that also stresses the basics.
  19. The QB at Gibbs High School played his heart out this season. He is a good athlete and a tough competitor. We will miss watching him play. He is also a good soccer player and will probably continue in college. Good luck to him.
  20. High School Coaches all over the country work very hard and the general public do not even have a clue as to what they do. Alot of what they do is above and beyond the call of duty and what is written in their job description. It is usually appreciated by the students, faculty and community. However, this does not entitle them to remain in their position if they are no longer effective or have not proven that they can handle the job after a number of years on the job. The work and effort that is done in any job in any profession should be appreciated by ones peers and others affected by the hard work. Maybe the coaches in our area that are so hard working but could not build and maintain a reputable football program after 25 years in their position should step aside and let someone else try to do what they could not accomplish. The hard working coaches could stay and remain as assistant coaches or could be hired to do the field work or other jobs that they have done so well over the years at their present school or at another school. In the business world a person who works hard but has not proven themselves after 25 years to be good at their job is usually asked to step aside or is given a job more suitable to their abilities. Not everyone in life has leadership abilities.
  21. PLACALL If Gibbs has no athletes how do they compete so well in baseball and now in basketball? For the most part the "athletes" at Gibbs simply do not see the need nor do they want to play for the current football staff. At one time and in the weaker district the current staff was effective but not now.
  22. RED61 KP SMASH Regardless of what happens at Gibbs High School a new head football coach and an entirely new set of assistant football coaches is needed desperately. Things have been going on up here for years that are not public knowledge on coacht.com that are not conducive to a well ran football program. The community, players, parents and school is tired of being embarassed by these coaches and their actions. Also Gibbs Football has had only one season in the past 12 years. The winning season was in 1997. The players derserve better than this. They are not being prepared for the season by the present coaching staff. Many athletes in the school simply will not play football for this staff. We got a new boys basketball coach and our basketball team is really improving. Austin-East got rid of Glasper. Carter got rid of their coach and got Catlett (even though he did not stay)and it made a difference while he was there. If othere schools can make changes and improve their football program why cant Gibbs? A good head football coach can do more for the morale of a school and has more clout in the community than the principal. Jim Pryor has done wonders for Gibbs High School as their new principal. Gibbs needs a complete change in the football staff this year. It has been too long.
  23. Lets hope that the Blount Co School Board chooses wisely for the coaching vacancy. We up here at Gibbs are elated that it is rumored that certain parties are applying for the job down in Blount Co. Keep in mind: A coach is not asked to step down for just throwing a marker and accidentally hitting a player with the top of the pen. School officials keep records of past incidents that have occured over the years that a coach has had. Excess baggage follows a person when changing jobs. We wish all of our departing coaches good luck but we dont want them back.
