  1. Imagine how bad all the scores would have been if those "overrated" region 2 teams actually had talent.
  2. Playoff programs ... 1-9 teams in the playoffs ... two of many TSSAA fundraisers. They are nearly broke, I hear they have a bake sale planned next weekend if you all want to help them.
  3. Even us poor writers over here in East Tennessee knew that Grundy County was known as the Yellow Jackets. I find it hard to believe the man from Middle Tennessee who calls himself the Guru of high school football didn't know that. I bet someone who works for him made this mistake.
  4. OK, let me slow this down just a little for you. When I say I can't predict a region 1 team...that actually means I am picking region 2 teams. So, I was not saying we should not make predictions. Sorry if that caused confusion.
  5. When did I ever say we shouldn't predict? Making predictions (mostly wrong ones) is one small part of my job. Anyway, using just one cheekbone, I predict that Region 1 gets swept in rather impressive fashion.
  6. I am certainly excited about seeing my second Oak Ridge game of the season and my first playoff game. Should be a great start to the second season.
  7. All I meant Watson was that based on what I have heard and know...Region 2 has the better teams this season. And trust me, I am not the only one predicting a Region 2 sweep in the first round. I do appreciate you letting me know they do play the game on the field...I had no idea.
  8. I just can't see any reason to predict any Region 1 teams in the first round.
  9. Being from Roane County, I hope everyone continues to overlook the Waves. Everyone in the region keeps waiting on them to slip up...and it could happen with a great team coming to town Friday. But if I was Midway, I would be jacked...to do what they have done and still have everyone talking about the other teams in the region. Huge game...could go either way, can't wait to see how things unfold!
  10. After seeing how Unaka did at Oakdale...it looks like region 2 will have a lot of fun against each other in round two of the playoffs.
  11. Bah, you sound like those pathetic announcers who would hardly ever give Tennessee credit for anything. Ask the Georgia players who were drug off the field and the ones who were getting their heads knocked off how lucky Tennessee was. Did that all-American defensive end for Georgia even play? After the Vols got taken to the wood shed last weekend, I had a gut feeling about this week, but couldn't pull the upset trigger. I hope all of those who love to point out the bad job the coaching staff does, can appreciate the job they did this weekend. It wasn't pretty...but who cares? I don't look at the world through orange-colored glasses, but I have seen enough Tennessee games to know that you do not want to play them after they get hammered. Now, they could still drop a couple of games, we are still low on overall talent...but I guarantee I will enjoy this one a few days!

    AC Football

And I really wonder if this was a coach or program from middle Tennessee, if it would be allowed to take place? Some schools and areas get their topics closed rather quickly when a coach or program is raked through the coals...
  13. I am sticking with what I said. I looked at the replay from the angle our cameraman had, several times. I thought the call was justified...but that's just my opinion.
  14. Coming from someone who has no dog in the fight, I watched the replay of that interference call...and the official was right on the money. Plus, if I am not mistaken, there is no "uncatchable" rule in high school football. The pig could be 30 yards over his head and if there is contact...it's interference. I am no zebra, but that is what was told to me. Regardless, it was a good game and congratulations to Kingston on picking up the win. And best of luck to Anderson County in the remainder of their games.
  15. Way to go Midway...nobody has given the Waves much respect and with all the injuries, they still come out with a big 13-0 win!

    Coalfield

Hey, thanks...I needed more help being hated by Coalfield fans. I really wish I could say I think Coalfield will win the state. I love their program. However, and this is what I said on TV...they will not face any competition during their regular season and playoffs, like they will face when they get to the semis. I have seen SO many great single A teams in east Tennessee that breeze through things until they play an ABC school...and then get blasted. Now next year, perhaps things will change.
  17. This one will get as ugly as Goose in tights...
  18. Fantastic post Budrock...and I wish I could be at this game. I really like bad weather.
  19. Oliver Springs has found a running game and are playing much better. They should win this one easily.
  20. The scary part is, while I think Rockwood has a really good secondary, Alcoa has the ability to make a great secondary look bad. Of course we all know, that the key to any secondary is the entire defensive play. The D line must get pressure and the linebackers have to do their part. Just to be honest, and I know my passport to Rockwood will get revoked for this, Rockwood must play a perfect game and Alcoa will need to be a little off for the Tigers to win this game. Everyone loves talking Alcoa's big three, but they have so many more weapons and talented players than those we hear about. Coach Webb and his staff are good...and will have a great gameplan. But I am sure many teams have had great plans against good teams that just didn't work.
  21. While I think Alcoa will win, I really love the Rockwood secondary as well. David Morgan, Moffitt and company are so intelligent and do a good job. Now, they haven't played a quarterback like they will face Friday night, but I do believe they have a top notch secondary. The Tigers will have to shorten the game. 6-7 minute drives that produce points. But after those drives they have to do something to stop the Tornados' big plays. I think it will be closer than most think, but Alcoa comes out with the win.
  22. I am so anti two quarterback systems, it's not even funny....but it could work. Ainge has talked about his willingness to be part of a two-headed monster. The thought of the headaches defensive coordinators would get trying to formulate a scheme to defend both styles, makes me wish that they, along with the coaches, could actually work together for two or three years. However, it won't. Too many people will be "whispering in their ears" about how it will hurt their chances at the next level not being the only one in the spotlight. But a Vol fan can dream... But Vol fans are funny...I remember so vividly when Peyton and Brandon were here and the fans were screaming for Brandon to be the man, due mainly to the fact that they were still having Heath Shuler hangover and wanted someone who could run. Most won't admit it now, but I certainly remember that the majority of the Orange faithful were convinced that Peyton was overrated and riding his dad's name....us fans know so much about the game.
  23. Probably should have been off-setting on the call. The clock would have still stopped, so perhaps the Vols could have still made it into position for the kick. Hate to see such an incredible game marred with a bad call, however. But shoot, I am still shaking from the big win!
  24. Tried to run the score up? That's laughable...he was playing freshmen in the first half. After he knew the game was in hand, his main concern was not running any score up...it was remaining healthy. And if the weather was 70 degrees, dry and a rainbow shining on Wartburg's side of the field, the Tigers would have still won by a few touchdowns. The 'Dogs lost a lot of good talent from last year and are struggling just a bit. Making the playoffs will be quite a task for them.
  25. Game will be Monday evening, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
