  1. As we know the National Letter of Intent (NLI) is the official document used to establish the commitment of a prospect to attend a particular institution. Those dates are fast approaching for many sports and are as follows: Basketball (Early Period): Nov. 15-22, 2002 Basketball (Late Period): April 11 - May 16, 2003 Football (Midyear JC Transfer): Dec. 18, 2002 - Jan. 16, 2003 Football (Regular Period): Feb. 5 - April 1, 2003 Field Hockey, Soccer, and M. Water Polo: Feb. 5 - April 1, 2003 All Other Sports (Early Period): Nov. 13 - 21, 2002 All Other Sports (Late Period): April 9 - Aug. 1, 2003 As far as this November signing day...I have no idea what that is. Sorry. [Edited by TankTalk on 9-30-02 4:23P]
  2. You are talking about situations that happened AFTER they were taken. The Titans were smart and looked at Moss and knew what the future held. It was very obvious that while he possessed perhaps the most talent ever at the wide receiver position, his personality and future as a thug was not worth it. I applaud them for not selecting someone just on the basis of athletic gifts. There is much more to TEAM sports than that.
  3. I do miss talking to the callers and talking sports. And when you were on, we got quite a few calls about your performance....and they were good. I actually miss my radio show much more than the television. I could control the flow much better and was actually able to include content. Those poor fellas are just there to answer the phone and listen to the ranting...and I feel for them. One day I will be back behind a microphone, but time to take care of business now.
  4. See, this is how much I love professional sports. Copeland is from my hometown...and I had no clue.
  5. Gone are the days of two sets of fans sitting on opposing sides...cheering for their respective teams. Now...we have trash talking and making up fictional town names....wooohooo...high school football at the classy level excites me.
  6. Bubba Trammell, Knox Central, MLB Jermaine Copeland, Harriman, Cowboys...I think.
  7. So the fact that this is the first time he got in trouble (in the pros), makes it ok? He pushed a woman with his car down the street....he has always shown an attitude of being above the law and he will get in trouble again. We have got to stop condoning behavior that is pathetic, because someone has talent...what kind of freaking message are we sending? Owners need to stop being greedy idiots and when someone breaks the law...you hit them where it hurts. You get rid of them and let someone else take care of the problem. 8. hehe, Ron answers the phone...that show has no main host. And any three goobers could sit there and listen to fans rant about the coaches.
  9. Any on-air work I have done, I have lived by one simple rule. Talk to the microphone like it was a friend. That's it. I tried to call games...and conduct shows the same way I would carry on a conversation at breakfast. I scan and hear announcers that try to sound like John Ward...or someone else...and then I hear the announcer who tries to use the big words or the "Radio" voice. Just be yourself and have a good time. It's not brain surgery.
  10. As sports lovers...and somewhat intelligent football fans, let's take a look at "what if's." What if, the correct call was made? Not to whine, but the kid was well short of scoring on that play. Would Tennessee come out with more emotion after a huge goalline stop? Could be...who know's. There is thinking that could argue the score would have been Florida 7, Tennessee 0 at the end of the first half because of the bad call. Remember, we are doing what if's. Florida won, hands down and that's all that matters. The call was terrible, but the coaches and players should have never allowed that dismal display of football happen in the second quarter. Tennessee did help beat themselves, but they lost....move on.
  11. and against the Florida prevent...wow...the Future is bright!
  12. I love having Kelley Washington its about time Tennessee finally had someone controversial! Teams like Florida St., Florida, Miami, Michigan all have had players like this and it got them more publicity & the National Media just loves it. If Tennessee is going to be in the Big Time with National Coverage they need this type of player as long as Kelley doesn't do anything stupid off the field I am fine with him. What has "The Future" said that he hasn't backed up so for even last year?? I am sorry, but I think "The Future" would NOT be scared to take a hit...and wouldn't run for the sidelines everytime he caught a pass. I never doubted his physical abilities, but like some players have said, he is a cancer and I can't wait for him to be gone.
  13. I am really concerned because like Swamp, feel there are way too many untested players for the Big Orange. But the Gators are tested...and have failed already badly. I wish Washington was out of the game...and the season. Reading his ESPN The Magazine article just about me throw up. He is tremendously gifted...but he should be at another program that is more adept at having trash-talking run rampant. Bad weather would be an advantage for the Vols because of their hogs. Florida has some good hogs, but not as seasoned as our hogs. (sounds like a sausage commercial) Big Orange break-out, play good all around and the better special teams play a big part. Tennessee 31, Florida 21. [Edited by TankTalk on 9-20-02 3:22P]
  14. Wait til the season is over...the championship games are played, then we will know who the best teams are.

    Rockwood-OS

Sheesh, a little success has went to a small percentage of OS fans' heads... I never said Rockwood was the best team in the region, actually had Sweetwater and Wartburg ahead of them but I would think anyone with any experience in football would look at the OS losses and feel they may not be as potent as last year. This year, at OS, both teams coming off losses to larger schools, this will be a good contest. Last year's game was a good one as well. If Thompson can go, I am going with the Tigers in a slight upset...if Thompson is still gimpy, I say the 'Cats. [Edited by TankTalk on 9-16-02 3:39P]
  16. Well dang, now I have to go and give Goose a good mark. What's the world coming to?
  17. I guess you are right, but I would venture to guess more schools make most of their money off football than basketball. I have actually had much more experience on the basketball side than the football side of the fence and that's just an opinion. If your school and others make most of their money off basketball, then no, they shouldn't compete either, but basketball is such a larger season (as far as number of games) and I think scheduling conflicts would impossible to overcome. Whereas football is played once a week, the money-hungry television networks could hold Friday nights sacred.
  18. Sounds like I need to hire you as my agent. In my current job, I am secluded from the sports scene and it's driving me nuts!
  19. You can never go wrong with Lawrence Welk.
  20. Hey, you calling me a Vulcan???
  21. Ummm, I picked Rockwood to win? But it doesn't matter what town's boy I am, I pick who I think will win.
  22. Hate to disagree with you on this, but coaches and Athletic Directors have a right to get mad. How many schools athletic programs as a whole are assisted through profits from football games? At some schools, the football teams carry much of the burden.
  23. Actually, a source told me a key part of Midway's offense would be missing this game. And when two county teams play, I tend to pick scores closer and lower than my heart actually tells me. But, Harriman isn't playing the Kingston or Oliver Springs defense this Friday and I feel they can get in the endzone. As for the half a point, beats me...I just think it's going to be a close one.
  24. Rockwood 21 (and a half), Kingston 21 OS 17 Smith CO. 14 Midway 14 Harriman 6 Coalfield 28 Taft 0 Wartburg 35 Oakdale 7
  25. For now, they have said that. Like I have said a million times, in a few years, expect the SEC and other big conferences to cave in to the dollars and there will be marquee matchups on Friday night. The game is controlled by the almight dollar. But I don't care if the Vols and Gators played on Friday night....I am not watching college football until Saturday.
