  1. His jersey was #2. Not only is Eric a great player and great person - he is extremely smart - 4.0 GPA with a 33 on his ACT. I hope he has a fantastic career at Furman!
  2. I know it says "softball" at the top, but these are volleyball teams. That may be why some of the name are not so easily recognized on the softball board.
  3. Congratulations to the Lady Wildcats! They are having a super year. I hope they can continue this quality of play throughout the tournaments. Who knows - maybe we'll see them in Memphis!!!
  4. I agree with you totally RoarSB1169. Stacey is very under rated. It's a shame that it took an injury to Nikki for Stacey to get some deserved recognition. If I'm not mistaken, she's only lost one game this year - to Lincoln County. 13-1 is definitely a praise-worthy record
  5. Tiffany Baker of East Ridge
  6. in my humble opinion, the pride in your team and your facilities starts at the top - with the coach. my daughter was a starter for four years at hixson high school - UNDER FOUR DIFFERENT COACHES. i don't know about the coaches before 2000, but, until last year, none of the coaches she had took any interest in the facilities. it was just viewed as a place to practice and play a few games. every time there was work done on those fields back then, it was done by the parents (of course, if was the same four or five every time). not to mention that it is been hard as heck to get good players to come out for softball because they weren't sure who would be coaching from year to year. hopefully, Coach Tate will stay long enough for them to have the consistency and motivation they have lacked for SEVERAL YEARS! i agree that the parents need to get off their butts and help fix the field; however, some of the things that need to be fixed have been neglected so long they are beyond just a little hard work (i.e. field drainage, electrical problems, bathroom facilities, etc.) anyway, i'll get off my soapbox. just wanted to give a hixson softball parent perspective.
  7. i heard atchley wasn't playing. he's only concentrating on football. ricketts will definitely help though - he's just an all around good athlete
  8. Her running the girls had nothing to do with it being Marion that beat them. She was upset because of some crucial errors, girls missing signs, lack of hitting, and lack of basic fundamentals. You're right - the district should be interesting. Tyner doesn't pose much of a threat. Hixson beat Sequatchie by ten. Don't know anything about Bledsoe
  9. Thanks everybody! I just wanted confirmation that I was interpreting the rule correctly. I guess the snowballing started early in Marion County!!
  10. Has anyone ever heard of video cameras not being allowed to be used in a basketball game? In Marion County tonight the head coach told the fans that they had to put away their video cameras - that only one per team was allowed. He said it was in the TSSAA regulations. The way I interpreted the rule was the only a school taping its own game may use a tripod but that anyone in the stands could film as long as they stayed in their seats, video taped only the games in which they were playing, and the tapes were not used for public or commercial use. I've seen people video basketball games all year. (I even saw them video taping at Marion County last night). Why invoke this "rule" tonight? Did I miss something in the interpretation? If anyone can enlighten me, I would appreciate it.
  11. Played SS/2B for the 17-under Colonels last summer. His dad is a hitting coach for a minor league team. Great kid, super athlete - equally good in baseball, basketball, & golf. Will probably have his choice of which sport to play in college
  12. I was sitting next to Hixson's student section during the Grundy County game. Yes, they were loud, rude, and obnoxious - as student sections tend to be. However, Grundy's coach didn't seem to have a problem with it - he was actually egging some of them on and laughing with them. For isntance, when a Grundy player would do something good, he would turn to the crowd and say "gotta give him props". He realized that heckling is part of the game. In the beginnnig, it was all in good fun. When the plastic ball came out of the stands from Hixson'S student section, the game was stopped. The referees talked to both coaches. Dr. Swafford, Hixson's principal, came and sat in the middle of the student section (to dispute the claim that "he did nothing"). Coach Eller, the boys head coach, made an announcement on the PA system that if anything else was thrown on the floor, the game would become a forfeit. With about 52 seconds to go, a call from an official (which were equally bad in both the girls & boys games!) went against Grundy County. That's when a GRUNDY fan threw a water bottle on the floor, then another GRUNDY fan threw fruit on the floor, and the game was called. The school resource officer stepped in the middle of the court and tried to diffuse the situation. When he realized he couldn't handle it by himself, he called backup. (I think there were a total of 3 police cars that showed up.) As for what happened outside, I'm not going to say because I WASN'T THERE. I'm sure there are going to be lots of different scenarious, but I feel that if Hixson gets reported, so should Grundy. They were not as innocent as the first post made them sound.
  13. Does anybody know who made the all tournament team at the Bradley County tournament?
