  1. i wasn't able to attend the game, but i read that two of milan's tds were big plays, but huntingdon does have to learn to stop the passing attack. jackson sun columnist dennis seid brought up an interesting point when he mentioned the two '98 games between these two teams. huntingdon was ranked #1 (7-0) and beat the bulldogs 28-14 in the regular season, but milan won in the quarterfinals 17-13 and went on to win the state championship.
  2. one of the best in west tn would have to be westview's. that's an obvious choice though b/c they play at ut martin's field, but i still picked it because they have staduim seating. huntingdon's is unique, in that, the home bleachers are built into a hill, so when you walk in the gate, and you're standing at the top of the bleachers next to the recently-renovated press box.
  3. this is got to be one of the top games of the year in 2A, i've seen both teams play--i noticed that huntingdon has a lot of depth and that milan has a lot of speed. i was at the trenton / milan game, and in my opinion, trenton lost--milan didn't necessarily win. the golden tide should have been leading 7-3 at halftime. they beat themselves with costly mistakes they could have overcome and never really rebounded from them. does anyone know if coacht will be at this game?
  4. i agree. i've always believed that it's better to reach the playoffs 7-3 having played in those wars against milan, westview, uc, crockett co, huntingdon, etc than to be 10-0 having played some of the weaker programs in the area. i disagree that usj can hang with anybody just b/c they beat hardin co, who isn't really known for football at all. beat the list of teams above and then you have a very strong program in my opinion. 5. i also heard that he broke his knee cap. i know someone that talked to a westview coach and he said that he thought that it was broken.
  6. i heard that the vols were looking at bruceton's patrick willis--i don't know if it was for offensive [halfback] or defense [linebacker]. i was told that he was at the florida game last week, and he does have the grades to qualify.
  7. good luck to both teams and everyone involved. i hope that we all display proper sportsmanship and that the players go without injury.
  8. truer words were never spoken, HOTHEAD. preach it, my brother.
  9. oh, no doubt this will be a hum-dinger, but i don't think that a small, fast defense is a bad thing. don't get me wrong, i think that having some of those big war daddies on the line is a plus. however, i know that there was one defensive coordintor on the college or nfl level that traded and drafted specifically for those who could get to the ball fast--it leads to gang tackling, and if you think about it, that fast d-line is precisely what a team needs to contain hill. and to DUCKMAN and CATS1, i don't think that homefield advantage is a major factor in high school. maybe to some extent, but not too much. sure, everyone would rather play at home as opposed to away, but practically all the cities are close and most of the fans that would be at a home game come to an away game. virtually anyone who is going to cheer a team on vocally during a game is going to be there regardless. just my opinion. 10. not so fast, my friend. usj is not as bad as they think they are this year, and riverside is certainly much stronger than they have been in the past few years...or well...maybe ever. the panthers will make it interesting.
  11. i disagree that usj could beat them. they're always strong, but i don't believe that they are even close to the teams that the bruins have had in the past years.
  12. in essence, this game is is comparable to the vols/gators game; whoever has the least turnovers and most rushing yards will likely win. that, of course, was true last time when the stangs passed for 300+, but still lost to the chargers rushing attack by 10 points. another key to winning this game is special teams. huntingdon's kicker is missing at least one extra point each game--that could be the difference. i have seen both teams play in big games--huntingdon v. bruceton and westview v. milan, the chargers didn't impress me on the o-line. huntingdon is small and fast with depth there, martin may have depth too--i don't know. huntingdon's backfield, which practically balances the # of carries, could ultimately win the game if the stangs' d can contain martin's workhorse rafael hill. i have no exact score, but i say the final spread is less than a touchdown
  13. UC got smoked by Milan. 38-7, if i'm not mistaken Milan is pretty tough this year.
  14. good point about huntingdon. but houston's guy put up some impressive numbers. i would rather have a couple or 3 backs who shared the load rather than one guy who carried the ball an excessive number of times in the game
  15. not so fast, my friend. i expect the game to be close, but i think that huntingdon will pull it off-even if the chargers traditionally have beaten them in the regular season.
  16. milan - 31 union city - 20 westview - 35 humboldt - 14
  17. usj is not as good as they have been in the past compared to teams in 2A for example but they are still deserving of respect in 1A. they may have lucked out when playing the bruceton patrick willises, i mean tigers, who aren't as strong as they have been in the past either. ezell, boyd, collinwood
