  1. This game was all about the Greeneville offensive line. Hard to lose when you are getting a 3-4 yard push. Great job guys.
  2. 42-14 greeneville at the start of the 4th
  3. It's got nothing to do with whether they hear it at school or home. It's got everything to do with the fact that a public school emplyee is directing those words at his players like they are some old mule that won't plow straight. A player can only take so much abuse before they say. "Forget it." I'm sorry that you think it is okay and acceptable for an authority figure to use that kind of language toward kids....it's not. A great coach that I know said, "They've got to know how much you care, before they care how much you know." I am a coach and our school system is very clear....if you are caught using curse words around kids in practice or in games, you are gone. Period. Your coaching career is done. We are a public school with two state championships last year and the cast majority of our sports (all except one) went to the state tournament. I was never cursed at by a coach. I was an athlete in high school and college. My friends cursed but never a coach. Point is.....don't let yourself believe that a lack of vocabulary and poor judgment are the hallmark of "good" coaching or that "everybody" does it.
  4. I graduated in 1990 and I am planning on getting my videotapes converted soon. I will get in touch with you papa and mr. preticci when I get them finished. Got to head to my parent's house and dig them out. Any suggestions on getting them converted? I was going to buy a VHS/DVD player recorder and transfer them that way. Will that work? I will get them to you guys when I get finished.
  5. That's like saying, "Well, if the others horses had all tripped, we would have won the Kentucky Derby." It's meant to be played out on the field and those things happen. You can't take them away and talk about how good you are/were. I hope you guys have a good game but I hope the Devils win.
  6. That game was exactly what both teams needed - a tough season opener. I would rather watch that game three weeks in a row rather than a 70-0 blowout.
  7. Science Hill's QB is dangerous. If he gets some help with dropped balls, this game could have been a different story. Good job Devils. Great way to open the season for both teams. This kind of game will pay off come playoff time for both teams. Much better than playing some cupcake and winning 59-0. Good luck to both teams.
  8. Good luck Justin. You will do a great job.
  9. Sweeptheleg.... Do you honestly believe the words that you write? Which do you think is more likely to happen? A. We create an A/AA division, kids start medaling and the sport of wrestling grows. B. The schools with multiple quality coaches will tell those coaches to go out to schools with no "real" wrestling programs to start feeder programs, organize middle school tournaments and turn around a high school program. So, according to your logic, I can expect a few Bradley coaches up here to start a few programs next week? The Soddy guys are heading out to Memphis to get them cranked back up next Thursday. The Science Hill extras are heading over to Cosby to get those guys straightened out on Friday. Everyone's answer is to promote the sport - does that mean that we haven't been promoting the sport? I send stuff in to the newspapers daily and I bug the writers constantly to get more stuff in the papers.....and they do better than most. No local high schools have called me lately and said, "I saw this article in the paper and....." It's unrealistic. I'm not sure that an A/AA state tournament is the answer to wrestling's problems. I know that what we are doing now is not working. We've added 16 programs in 21 years. Something's got to change or we will be relegated to second class citizen status forever.
  10. The organization is TACA - Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association. They make proposals to the TSSAA concerning changes to the sport of wrestling.
  11. The regions for chattanooga won't be determined by what is best for wrestling. The regions will be determined by what is best for football and the other sports will fall where ever they fall. The real problem with regions now is the fact that we have 6 divisions in football which spreads wrestling, volleyball, track, swimming and other minor sports way too thin.
  12. No real beef. Just adding my two cents. We do have wrestling from K-12 here at Greeneville and have fantastic support from the community and the school. I have outstanding middle school and high school coaches helping me. I am truly blessed. My question still remains....what is the solution? How do you grow the sport at the A/AA level without throwing medals at it? I don't see a way for that to happen with adding another division. There is zero incentive at the A/AA level to start a new program. My solution is A/AA, AAA, D2 and a fully-sanctioned girl's state all going on at once. Again, my opinion. I understand others will disagree. A/AA - 16 man bracket from 4 regions - top 2 go for duals. AAA - 32 man bracket - don't mess with regions D2 - multiple qualifiers from each school - 16 man bracket Girls - fully sanctioned TSSAA sport
  13. I coach at a small school. I really don't care one way or the other. I am personally for the split but that's just my opinion. But, for you to get on here and say that those schools aren't "real" wrestling teams and that they aren't "real" coaches is insulting. Some of those schools struggle to keep a coach, they wrestle on borrowed mats, and the "fake" coach often times pays the costs of having a wrestling team out of his own pocket. I personally know many of those coaches and several of them rent a building on their own money just so those kids will have a place to wrestle. If their team gets a hotel room, the coach is paying for it. The simple fact is that the state wrestling tournament is dominated year-in and your-out by the largest schools in the state of Tennessee. Every once in a while an A/AA school will get a hot streak or a few transfers and they will pop up on the radar. That run has rarely lasted more than a few years. For you to say that everyone in TN is on equal footing or is looking to produce D1 All-Americans is laughable. By your argument that success is defined by D1 All-Americans, then we are all failures and have been failures for the last 45 years of TN wrestling. We've had 5-6 D1 All-Americans out of 3,780 medalists. Here's the real question, instead of deriding others...what is your plan for growing wrestling at the A/AA level in Tennessee. The A/AA level is where the growth of wrestling will come from.....not AAA. How do you attract schools to the sport? My guess is that you don't have an answer. The status quo is working for most of the AAA schools in this state and they are not really interested in seeing the sport grow. Randy Shelton Greeneville Wrestling
  14. To give my opinion on your orginal question.... I think the best match award is slowly going away. I haven't seen one at any tournament that Greeneville has attended this year. In my really humble opinion, I have seen too many losers throw the award away or act like a baby and I am no longer spending GHS money on the award. The GIT gives an outstanding wrestlers award for the upper weights and lower weights instead of a best match. Just my opinion but there it is.
  15. Couple of questions.... Will the mats at the expo center be open on Friday morning for teams to get a workout in? Does anyone in the Franklin/Brentwood area have room for Greeneville to get a workout in on Thursday after we get to Nashville and Friday morning if the expo arena is closed? Thanks in advance if anyone can accomodate. Just e-mail if you have space for us to workout. Randy Shelton sheltonr@gcschools.net
  16. Greeneville made it in last night from Region 1.
  17. I think that we are fooling ourselves if we think that wrestling was even considered when those alignments were announced. The alignments were to reduce travel costs for basketball and football....that's it. There is no conspiracy theory.
  18. Greeneville, Cocke County, Rye Cove VA, West Greene, Marion VA, Seymour, Chuckey-Doak, Happy Valley, Volunteer, Morristown-West, Hixson, Powell VAlley VA, Jefferson County, Tuscola NC, Heritage, Dobyns-Bennett, Virginia High VA, Pound VAm and Greenback I think that's all of them. See you guys on Saturday.
  19. I will post a list of the teams when we get back in school on Monday.
  20. Greeneville reinstated drug tests this year after about 4 years of not having them. I also know that Science Hill has random drug testing.
  21. Congrats Greene Devils on the win. Keep it up!
  22. 42-3 Greeneville and clock is rolling under the mercy rule.
  23. Do you get to listen to the game, KEV? Or am I your only source for info?
