  1. you heard correctly.. a 25 yarder.. i guess i could take some weight from the kicker.. he had a bad snap which resulted in a bad kick.. and another one blocked.. although most of the PATs were just flat out missed. i'm not really sure about the exact number they did make.. maybe 2 or 3.. from that many touchdowns.. special teams is almost always THE key factor in "good" games..
  2. theboredguy i had a feeling you'd be right about that.
  3. tonight's game showed the promise that this reloaded HHS team has, but the PATs were painful to watch.. i know alot of folks were turning their heads on the kickoffs and the placekicking tonight. we didn't really get to see what the punting unit has because huntingdon only punted once. but seriously i think this could come back to haunt them. i wonder why they overlooked this over the summer and just threw a bunch of people into the fire in july to see if they could halfway kick it straight. so my question is this.. is placekicking a job that can be learned during a season? based on what i saw tonight from a hungry defense and a really dangerous offense.. i'm gonna go out on a limb (a small limb.. it's only week 1) and say that for a while (until about midseason) they wont have any close games and blotched extra points or bad field position wont hurt them too bad.
  4. thats what i mean with the superintendent and the personal vendetta statement.. the past few head coaches have been exceptional but always seemed to have a less than mediocre assistant coaching staff.. therefore it didnt work out so well
  5. i'm gonna agree with whoever said that milan has the best chance because they know what winning is alot more than henry county does.. everyone over in paris knows that the superintendent has had this sort of personal vendetta against the football program all these years anyways.. and the community has grown to be very accepting to a team that finishes with a .500 team.. unlike milan who is "looking to rebound" after a 1 loss semifinal season.. those guys play with more heart and hold their heads higher in milan because they're representing the community that supports them so well along with the thousands of kids who've sat in the same locker room as them.. i dont think that factor is nearly as strong in paris.. it used to be.. i grew up in paris.. in the mid-90s it faded out i guess.. maybe gilmer can change that.. henry county could really jumpstart community support by upsetting milan friday night.. one of the reasons i like high school football is because anything can happen on a given night.. i'll be pulling for milan but if henry county did happen to win i'd be happy too
  6. "CoachT.com - giving small towns in Tennessee more to gossip about."
  7. one thing you missed out on that i think is worth adding is vision.. i dont care if a player has the best athletic skills if he doesnt know how to watch for his blockers and make the best of what his o-line gives him. i'm talking about waiting for a hole to open up and blasting through it. that makes a great running back.
  8. mckenzie looked like they weren't conditioned too well.. and i could sense a lack of experience every now and again. but i can tell you this they have a wall for an offensive line and drew hayes could drop back and tie his shoe and still have time to throw to a reciever.. and that may be what carries them to the playoffs.. i just couldnt understand why the line couldnt do the same for the RB when they needed just a few yards at the goal line.
  9. C+?!?! come on man I see the Jackson Sun's high school football coverage as one of the best in the state. They overextend their boundaries and unlike most city papers they travel the distance to cover the entire region of western tennessee outside of memphis. IMO they've done nothing but improve on that in the past 3 years. rock on Jackson Sun
  10. the CC jamboree report looks like it was contributed to by some of the spectators or numerous reporters.. (notice that it just says "by The Jackson Sun").. i'm not really sure about this one.. but it looks like the sun just didnt have the manpower to be everywhere at once last night. and had to fill the article with what they could get.. you can't really blame them though. I think the Jackson Sun does a great job covering Highschool football.
  11. yes but most of those games before in the lower ranks of 6-2a were just decided by who shot themselves in the foot the most if you know what i mean.
  12. this should be one of the most exciting years in 6-2A football in recent history.. from all the talk floating around after the scrimmages these past few weeks.. every game should be a good one. one thing is for sure no one should be overlooked.. now if adamsville could only get in gear, it would be a fight from top to bottom for sure.
  13. i beg to differ.. sometimes people dont realize the impact that this site has on football fans across the state.. especially since it's the only one of it's kind.. i know personally living in a small town that word travels fast and i see what volunteergeneral is trying to do.. if enough people take notice to it.. it will stir things up in milan and people will talk about it and question marks will fly.. not guaranteeing it.. but it can happen.. i've seen the town i live in do the same thing with a thread on coacht.com.. along with tons of other things.. it's a favorite pasttime to gossip in a small town and if the small town loves football they're on coacht.com as well.
  14. oh yeah i forgot about the jamboree in jackson being tonight. but you get my point.. i see lots of people talking trash about things that are done in PRACTICE.. i guess it's just a way for some of the diehards who can't wait for the first game to express their team's superiority.. not blaming anyone in this thread or anything because it's alot worse elsewhere.. in other parts of the state and in higher classes.. these big-dog teams and their fans are bragging about routing a team 45-0 in a SCRIMMAGE! unless they were playing a much weaker team i dont think that accomplishs much as far as working on what needs to be fixed and getting prepared for the season
  15. ok milan05.. you're just spewing off at the mouth now.. in one thread you're saying that people take scrimmages "way too seriously" and denying that camden handled your team pretty well.. and in another thread (this one) you're talking about scrimmages like it was a real game that actually mattered.. if it mattered anyone would have the right to take it seriously.. but why would a coach practice doing the things he already knew his team was capable of.. these scrimmages are just to figure out the unknowns.. many knowledgable fans across the state know that this time of the year is to count the bad apples and find out who spent the summer in the weight room and who didnt.. don't count your eggs before they hatch.. geez it isnt even week 0
  16. i predicted a thread like this would pop up soon. some of you people have such high expectations and look for the smallest things to pick at.. "it's practice" yes i know the meaning of these pre-season games escapes you people.. its to work out the rough edges and to see what you have to work with.. you can't expect any team on the high school level (especially in 2A ball) to play the best they are capable of from the first day of practice. one of the reasons huntingdon has been successful in the past is because of the high caliber of the teams they've scrimmaged and battled against in jamborees. this game was a learning experience.. and i'm sure no quality coach out there actually cares about the score in these things.. they just look to work on the weak points and test some of the question marks.. only a fool would polish the big weapons in a practice scrimmage anyways. things start really mattering when they turn the scoreboard on.
  17. huntingdon looked pretty sound on defense. although there was a big score on them i think that was a blown coverage and is expected to happen when you're rotating in DBs to get a feel for what each can do. on offense there were two fumbles that pretty much was the only thing holding them back.. hampton looked good at WB, and yes Boo was elusive, and yes Donald has grown and he's shooting through the holes faster than last year.. i'm not one to think that anyone "wins" a scrimmage and really i don't think you see either of the teams real abilities because most coaches go out to fix the problems and try things out.. not run it down the opposing teams throat.. but i'll post the score anyways....huntingdon had scored 2.. covington scored 1.. and jackson southside scored none when i left and the 2nd strings were playing. i think the biggest issue right now is who's going to play QB.
  18. ok i guess no one cares about the truth..
  19. how are these compiled.. from last seasons games? if so this compilation is much different than the one that was compiled at the end of last season (dec 6, 2003)

    Westview

ah the good ol days when Union City, Westview, Milan, were always in a tangle, where have they gone? hopefully 7-2a will return to being one of the toughest regions in AA soon. i'm a 6-2a supporter all the way, but i still miss the good ol days when hill, super mario, slayton, etc used to drive teams crazy and keep us all on the edge of the bleachers.
  21. speaking of small backs.. in my opinion boo weathers would play TB and donald at FB.. just my opinion though.. we'll see.. if they were in the I.. i'd play it that way.. and have desmond in on the wing T
  22. i'm not ready to talk about basketball yet!!!! there are alot of key players who graduate, but on the other hand, huntingdon brings back quite a few skilled players next year.. who do you think will be the offensive/defensive leaders for the stangs next year? also i think the question on everyone's mind is who will take the snaps next season?
  23. martin westview will be back up with the top dogs next year.
  24. i think the tv camera guy had a crush on terrance.. he wouldn't take the camera out of bell's face all game.. maybe they were filming a highlight reel definitely a night to remember and thanks mustangs for making all those sportswriters (including DAN MORRIS) eat their words. maybe those east/middle tennessee fans really do understand what kind of statement that makes if the team that destroys everyone in that neck of the woods gets embarrassed like that in a state title game.. nah i doubt it
