  3. bbump, Coaching? What are you thinking? You only get credit when you lose. Seriously, we are very happy for her. We wish her the best. I hope she likes enchiladas. They have the best down there. I came very close to going to Pan Am myself back in the day.
  4. Did I hear correctly that Tommy McCrary from Houston HS has been fired? He was THE man there. He had a great record and has a tremendous team coming back next year. All you folks looking for a job should load up the truck and head for Beverly Hills, I mean Germantown. Houston has to be one of the finest places to teach and coach on the planet.
  5. I think anyone who believes private schools have cornered the market on recruiting is naive. I could write a book on public school recruiting. I don't think the issue for most public school coaches is recruiting, but the fact that it can be done openly. Coaches are jealous. Coaches don't want to spend the off season time going to little league games, AAU games, or hosting camps, so they act like they can't recruit, but the truth is, there is nothing stopping them. The "powers" that supposedly lord over us all are so relaxed, that I'm beginning to wonder why the fuss. I say all coaches should begin to think of themselves as college coaches and add recruiting to their job description. Who is going to stop you? Go get anyone you want? Promise to make them famous. Promise them playing time. Promise them a trip to state, assuming it's a good recruiting year. Parents have lost their minds. They will do anything for their child to become the next Calapari or Summit recruit. They will move across the city , state, or stateline. They will file for divorce. They will buy an apt. or house in the "zone." What's this crap about zones anyway? Since when did school zones keep an athlete out of a school? Wake up. When someone calls the "all-powerful-one at AASST", he simply says, y'all need to all just get along and work together down there. I say, make your sport a year round job. Don't get mad, get even. Coaches don't coach for the $1,000 to $2,000 supplement. Coaches either coach to change young lives entrusted into their care or to win state championships. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a coach worth his salt who doesn't want to win and win big, but some can tell you their career won-loss record and some can tell you the names of everyone he coached and where they are today. I say those who seek the latter over everything else should recruit. Who is going to stop you? Why do people even discuss this issue year in and year out.
