  1. If I have a High School game Monday a NCAA Division two game on Tuesday, A NAIA game om Thursday and Division 1 Confrence games on the weekend which was my schedule last week guess which one I heard the most griping and complaining and pure old whining in? That is right the High School game where the stands are full of the hobby coaches, that are summertime Joe Torres, that think they are Gods gift to the game. The actual High School coaches are tickled for competent umpires to be there and they know that they can relax and coach that day but the verbiage coming from the stands is hysterical. So veteran umps tend to stick strictly to a College schedule, and the good young umpires, especially in Metro areas will do the little kid travel ball stuff where the cash is flowing and it is worth their while to put up with the abuse. If you constantly abuse the new umpires the will never become experienced enough to get better. I have done this for over 30 years and I don't think I have ever seen a High School game where an umpire intentionally missed a call to cost someone a game. It is the only job in the world where perfection is expected on day one and improvement is demanded after that. Listen to yourselves sometime, in Football and Basketball there is usually a dressing room to shield officials from the fans. in Baseball it is usually a parking lot where abuse is rampant and I pity the poor official that takes up for himself out there. Umpires are needed you are right but if you want to make the initial $300 investment to become one contact your local assigner and join up with a great group of guys who love a great game, if your not willing to do what it takes then keep paying to yell at us but just know how ignorant of the game that many of you are, and dont even try to become anymore knowledgeable.
  2. Who represented White Station at the meeting was it the Boys coach or the Athletic Director
  3. And I thought it was the great coaching Dragonmaster
  4. Germantown"s Sherelle Davis has signed with the University of Texas Pan-American. Davis averaged 16.8 points and 11.1 rebounds this year and was asked to do a lot of things that a girl her size usually is not called upon to do. Despite the above figures she was left off of the TACA all star team and the Commercial appeal even left her off of their original all metro list. As her coach for the last year and a half I saw her grow as a player and as a human being, I saw her score her 1000th point in district 15AAA and I am very proud of her accomplishments. Congratulations Sherrell I know you will have an outstanding career.
  5. NFHS case book 3.1.4 Situation C: F4 for whom the DH is batting pinch hits, or pinch runs for the DH. Ruling: the DH position is eliminated for the remainder of the game. However the starting DH could re-enter as a player but not in the role of the DH. If he does reenter he must re-enter in the same position in the batting order replacing F4. Did the second baseman return to second following the Home Run by the original DH if he did the ruling was mis handled. If the original DH or another sub took that position then the ruling was right.
  6. The force play slide rule has been in the books for over ten years now. It is a safety rule and it is in the next level that the kids will play. I just got back from umpiring a three game college series and the words break up a double play was not uttered one time. Why? if they try an illegal slide they will get nailed for a double play. One problem is that the kids play summer ball for hobby coaches, in leagues that use the pro rule book and they cant let the break up the double play thing go when their kids are playing in a different venue under different rules, This rule is not going away it will be altered some as it was on the NCAA level this year which would have made the play that you described at the beginning of the post probably legal. The days of thats not baseball are gone this rule is like the DH rule it is here to stay learn to live with it.
  7. No I finally got an account so I could chat now that the season is over. I have to work a college series in Mississippi this weekend and it does not look promising.
  8. Dragon you dont drive too well in good weather I'm glad you are hanging in the Ville this weekend. Coach Gat good luck and carry the Shelby County banner high for us this weekend.
  9. As the coach of one of the teams mentioned by Coach Gat I have been amazed by the strength of schedule rankings all year. Some of the teams mentioned above never got their fair due. The truth about the State tourney is that there is an all star group of officials that meet in the Boro. and there is a different game played in the rest of the state than in Memphis. We have a group of boys officials who feel they are being punished by also having to do a girls game and very seldom do we get a good job done. The officials from the remainder of the state call a purer game and Millington and Bartlett will have to adjust to that style of play since they cant have Memphis officials.
