  1. Oh, and Elliott was NOT all-state... maybe honorable mention, but definitely not on the all-state first team...
  2. Are you kidding? Elliott is average at best... a good arm and good size, but he plays at Page, where they don't know how to use him correctly... that, and he doesn't have a lot in the way of receivers... and don't believe everything you read about them finishing second in their region... it historically is a weak region beyond the top two teams, so finishing second will basically mean Page has to beat Marshall County...
  3. Nothing has been decided as of yet... usually they have the potential students vote on a mascot a few months before the school is set to open... at least that's how it was done before Ravenwood opened... probably toward the end of the year or in January/February we might hear something...
  4. If Page can't stop the Veer, the Pats are in for a long night... I think Grundy runs away with this one...
  5. Rebel27 was right about this jamboree nonsense in one of his first posts... it doesn't mean diddly... Franklin DID look pretty good with its backups, and Brentwood DID make some silly mistakes... But if you're a Franklin fan you have to wonder if this could give all Franklin fans and maybe even some of the kids a false sense of security... I'm sure TJ knows better and will downplay it a lot, because he didn't dress his starters and Welch was the only potential starter that the Bruins played... Just to offer some other thoughts about the jamboree... Ravenwood's away uniforms are terrible, but they can move the ball if they get things together... Fairview's running back, Bobby Martin, was pretty impressive and the Jackets could be okay this year... Page is really the same old Page, getting more fired up about a silly scrimmage than they should... I mean the fact they came back to beat Centennial is great, but Centennial was playing second and third string players at the time... The Pats may be okay... I'm predicting 5-5 or 6-4 at best... Centennial plays very physical and should give the 6-5A teams some fits, EVEN Franklin...
  6. Hey, not to defend BA, but there is already plenty of recruiting that goes on in Rutherford County... just ask Gary Rankin... how do you explain three different kids living across the street from each other and going to three different schools? I think Rankin, Marty Euverard (Oakland) and now David Alsup (Blackman) definitely do their share of recruiting in an area that has screwed up zone lines...
  7. BA is the best team, plain and simple... Franklin has a lot of potential but could still stumble against Brentwood because of the whole mental factor... the Bruins are in Franklin's head and have been for much of the last four or five years... it will take no injuries and some gutty play by the Rebels to break that jinx... I've seen every single team in the county, and BA has the most talent and is the deepest at every position... now, will they win it this year? Who's to say... MBA has quite a collection of talent hanging out off West End this year, too... so, we'll see...
  8. Sorry... got mixed up on the days... it's Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th... I apologize for any confusion...
  9. The Jamboree Schedule is as follows: Thursday 8/15 6:30 p.m.-Freshmen: Page v. Ravenwood 7-JV: Ravenwood v. Franklin 7:30-Freshmen: Franklin v. Brentwood 8-JV: Brentwood v. Centennial 8:30-Freshmen: Centennial v. Brentwood Friday 8/16 6:30 p.m.-JV: Page v. Centennial 7-Varsity: Ravenwood v. Fairview 7:45-Varsity: Brentwood v. Franklin 8:30-Varsity: Page v. Centennial All the games will be at Page High
  10. On Holbert... he's said that he doesn't have a clear cut favorite right now, but all the biggies are after him: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Michigan, etc. He's a manchild in every sense of the word. BA will be good this season for the simple fact that both he and Theo Townsend will line up in the backfield. On the whole BA championship thing... getting to the state championship game 19 times is great, but think about it... nine wins in 19 tries? Not a very good winning percentage, if you ask me. Now keep in mind that I think BA has had a great program over the years, and Carlton Flatt is a really good football coach. But notice I said really good, not great. Carlton has shown that in big games he has a tendency to get outcoached. We saw that last season against MBA in the Clinic Bowl. Jeff Rutledge had a better game plan and smoked BA's rear. Now all that said, I sincerely hope Carlton breaks the state record this season, because that would be a great accomplishment for him. On some level, I hope he wins it one last time to get that monkey off his (and the school's) back. But just let me say this: I respect Carlton Flatt as a football coach, but as a person he's not one of my favorites. The reason? Two words: Tom Moore.
  11. Anyone know how the Brentwood-Centennial game turned out Thursday night?
  12. Franklin will be by FAR the best team this fall... Brentwood has some good talent on defense and some of its offense back from last year, but they had one key loss... Austen Everson... that guy single-handedly willed that team to the finals last season... he was the spark plug, the driving force behind a quest for a state championship... guys like that don't come along very often... Brentwood will still have its share of talent, but the Bruins won't have their leader this year, and it will cost them down the stretch... my prediction? Brentwood may beat Franklin during the regular season, but the Rebels get them in the playoffs this time and maybe make a run of their own... Kevyn Murray and Ryan Nichols will be key for the Franklin offense... if they can stay focused as a team, Franklin has a chance to go far...
  13. "He'll be eligible if he changes addresses or if he gets a waiver saying there's a class at one school that the other school doesn't offer." This is the truth... even though both schools are in the county, there are six public schools and clearly defined zone lines for each... a change of address or a waiver approval because of a specific class would allow him to play this fall...
  14. Don't even give The Tennessean credit for doing ONE story about soccer... that story was most likely prompted by a phone call from someone saying what had been posted here on CoachT... The Tennessean's coverage of prep sports stinks, plain and simple... An occasional feature, beefed up coverage during state-level events and a scattering of gamers does not good coverage make... The staff over there has gotten away from its local ties and is solely concerned with being a "nationally" known newspaper... thus you get the constant coverage of the Titans, the NFL, the NBA, NHL and MLB... very little on Vanderbilt outside of football and basketball, practically nothing on the local colleges (Belmont, Trevecca, Lipscomb, MTSU) and perhaps an occasional story on the Nashville Sounds... The Tennessean is no longer a "local" sports section, and it continues to get worse every day... if you want "local" coverage, then pick up The Hendersonville Star, The Gallatin News-Examiner, The Daily News Journal, The Review Appeal or (to some extent) The City Paper... THOSE publications are where you get your local sports... where all these parents who have kids in the school systems go to read about their youngsters... it makes me sick that such a "local" newspaper like The Tennessean has gone in the tank so quickly after its biggest competition, The Nashville Banner, went out of business...
