  1. Wow... absolutely no respect for the Cougars... that's fine... you folks just wait and see... I have a feeling you might be singing a different tune come Friday night... they're better than you give them credit for...
  2. A guy called us while writing a book about Carlton for the TSSAA... he had been at BA and looked back through the old yearbooks, along with archived newspapers to find out Carlton's true record... he sent me his findings, year by year, so it was easy to look up... No pick on Centennial/BA yet... still formulating that one...
  3. Just FYI, Wes... your statement about BA never having lost to a Williamson County team is not exactly correct... we've checked the books... here's a score from 1970... Fairview 24, BA 3... The Eagles are 21-0 since that first loss... I just find it funny that Fairview, the most unlikely of teams, is the one that has a win in its pocket over BA... it's good trivia, anyway... Another tidbit about that game... it was BA's first-ever football game... the Eagles went 3-3-2 that year... I wonder if Carlton was worried after that loss? BA records against other teams: Franklin 8-0 Page 2-0 BGA 4-0 Brentwood 4-0 Centennial 1-0 Fairview 2-1 21-1 against Wm. Co. all time
  4. A bold statement there, Rebel... but not totally off-base... I might agree it has become one of the most important rivalry games in the Midstate, but the entire state might be a bit of a stretch... 5A definitely has its share of regional wars every year... you have Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill... D-B and Jefferson Co., and Soddy Daisy-Ooltewah in the East... then the biggest rivalry out West has to be Germantown against Houston... Here in Middle Tennessee, you have to rank Oakland-Riverdale as one of the best... has been for a long time... even though the Warriors have DOMINATED the series (24-9 in their favor)... Brentwood only opened in 1982, when Oakland and Riverdale were already on Battle of the Boro, Part IX... and don't leave out the Sumner County schools... Gallatin, Hendersonville and Beech have staged some amazing border wars over the years... But I can say Brentwood-Franklin has become one of my favorite games to be at every year...
  5. To be honest... and this is coming from someone who didn't grow up here and does not have any loyalty whatsoever to any school... I think folks around here don't give Greg Gregory the credit he deserves... how else do you explain turning a program that was mired in 2-8 and 3-7 seasons into a playoff contender? Those people who make fun of Greg don't know Greg personally and understand what a great guy he is... I just don't think it's fair to make those assmptions of him... I think he is just another part of a tremendous coaching fraternity across Williamson County... Save your judgement for Greg until after this season... if this team goes 5-5 and gets beat in the first round of the playoffs, then I'll be right there with the people saying the coaching should have been better... And besides... coaches can only do so much... when it's Friday night and the lights are on... players have to make plays... it's that simple...
  6. The Cougars have almost their entire backfield returning... Taylor Scott at quarterback, Curtis Steele, Tommy Buchanan and Jason Koenn at running backs... then all-purpose player Brandon Meggs at wideout... two-thirds of the o-line is back... granted, the biggest losses were on defense... and let's be honest, Centennial's defense left a lot to be desired last fall... that's why I said, provided they can find some defense, they will be tough... I say they'll be the best team in the county at the end... but you all are right, losing Philip Bates hurts... a guy like that doesn't come along too often... but I think a lot of people will be surprised by how good the Cougars are...
  7. Wow... still two months away from football season and already I get to make enemies... all these BA supporters... tsk, tsk... MY county rankings: 1. Centennial 2. BA 3. Brentwood 4. Franklin 4. Ravenwood 6. CPA 7. BGA 8. Page 9. Fairview Now... my "brief" explanation... Centennial has by FAR the greatest amount of talent returning this fall... the Cougars proved last year, provided they play defense, they were a force to be reckoned with... a solid defense mixed with their potent wishbone will be a dynamic combination... BA, while some may think Coach Flatt just reloads over there, is scraping the bottom of the barrell... Gone are your best two backs, a couple receivers and a couple linemen, all of whom likely played both ways... your quarterback, Tyler Griffin, is marginal at best... has some skill, but who is he going to throw to? Barry Turner is the best athlete the Eagles have coming back... Tyree Ford is untested and YOUNG... Brentwood falls into the category of avoid injuries, be successful... with enrollment continuing to drop in Bruin town, the margin for injuries becomes slim... it will be a matter of whether they can stay healthy for 10-plus games... Franklin and Ravenwood are tied, and here's why: The Rebels lost more than 20 seniors on a varsity team that had just under 50... youth will be promient in Franktown this fall, so untested and uncertain are two words the Rebs will come to learn quickly... Ravenwood, on the other hand, will have seniors for the first time and likely contend for the fourth playoff spot... the question will be whether those seniors have the fortitude and leadership ability to point the Raptors toward victory... CPA also has a great deal of talent, but the Lions also have a new coach... that will play a huge factor in how they fare in their region... Riverdale and Goodpasture are pride games, so the true tests will begin Week Four... The state champs fall to No. 7 because they lost their heart and soul from the past three years... without Ryan Karl at running back, BGA is very mortal... the 'Cats will have a whole new backfield, one that hasn't seen the field much at all... Page lost likely its best quarterback in school history and some hard workers on defense but returns some skill players... Alvin Palmer has a tough test on his hands in year one... Fairview has Bobby Martin back, but the Jackets have a new coach as well... it will be a tough climb to host another playoff game in Fairview... Well, I've thrown in my two cents... now you guys can tell me how stupid I am...
  8. Was anyone at this game? Give us the skinny
  9. Hey Reb... this is totally off-topic... but you said tonight would be your last Franklin-Centennial event for a while... where you off to? Monroe? Or is that this fall?
  10. Does anyone know the schedule for Page/Fairview/Columbia Acad, etc.? Not getting any information from the coaches...
  11. My cohort was there... and it's too late for me to call him... LOL... I've been staying too busy covering all these blasted spring sports to post on here...
  12. Two of the best teams in Williamson County went at it tonight at Brentwood... was anyone there?
  13. BGA's win over Centennial was legit, but the 'Cats were very fortunate against BA the first time... Tuesday will be interesting, seeing how BGA responds in the big gym... if the 'Cats can keep BA's shooting percentage as low as the first game, this one could come down to the wire again... Consider this, though... Barry Turner didn't play in the first game for BA, and he has shown his ability in spades since coming back from his suspension... 29 against MBA last week showed me... The Wright-Turner combo could be lethal... but then again, BGA has this innate ability to keep right on winning... I think the count stands at 11 of their last 12... pretty impressive... How about a BA-BGA final at the state tournament? I think it would be awesome...
  14. First AP poll is next week...
  15. Wright is a BA legacy... one of his parents went there...
  16. I simply said nobody likes him... I hardly consider that bashing... but whatever... guess you can't say anything on here unless it's positive fluff... what good is a discussion board if you can't post your opinion, good or bad? I've seen PLENTY of folks saying a lot worse things than that on here... and will continue to as well... just my two cents...

    TSWA

Just wait and see... but if you were to shake your magic 8-ball... it might say... "signs definitely point to yes"... that's all I'm saying...

    TSWA

The TSWA site is www.tswa.org... football teams should be out just before Christmas...
  19. Now... this is just me... but if you guys are trying to decide whether Franklin or BA was better... consider this... Yes, BA got to the finals against MBA and yes, Franklin did lose to Germantown in the semifinals... but Franklin's defense was at least good enough to never get them blown out in any of their three losses... I don't think BA can say that... try to the tune of, what was it... oh yes, 38-14... I've made my point... I'll be quiet now...
  20. Have heard Scott Smith associated with the FRA job since midway through the football season... they apparently want him out at Ezell... nobody likes him... and I can understand why in my dealings with him... Also look for changes at Davidson Academy as well...
  21. Tough to say at this point... if we're talking about returning players and game experience, I'd say you'd have to give a bit of an edge to Centennial... the Cougars have almost their entire backfield returning, in addition to most of the offensive line... some key losses on defense, but if you're talking about overall talent, I think it's Centennial, then Brentwood, then Franklin and Ravenwood... Page and Fairview will be in that middle bunch, as will BGA... hard to say about Brentwood Academy... CPA will be somewhere in the mix...
  22. 112... now 118 after Friday night... 118 of 444 points scored this season... 26.5 percent...
  23. One less athlete wouldn't concern me if I were Franklin and Tim Johnson this week... the big question will be how the Rebels match up against Germantown's MONSTER offensive and defensive lines... 330, 280, 270, 250... and they have a big play tight end that's 6-8, 280... they run the wishbone, so if they get down early they will have to throw, which will play into Franklin's hands... that's how Brentwood was able to win last year... the Bruins were up 21-0 before Germantown was able to even get warmed up... turnovers and Franklin being able to make some big plays will be key for a Rebel victory here... A couple quick scores could send the Red Devils into panic mode...
  24. Last year's attendance was low for the AAA game because they played it on Friday night, when all the other quarterfinal games were going on... I guess they figured it wouldn't matter if they went head-to-head with the Division I guys... but what they lost were the sidewalk fans who just wanted to see good football... those fans went to their favorite D-I games, while BA and MBA had a sparse crowd... I think it's better they moved all the games back to Saturday...
  25. Rebel... I heard Kevyn might not be playing this year... from a pretty reliable source... still can't confirm that, but that would be a huge loss for Jay's team... I think you're right, though... they should be among the top three or four teams in the district...
