any results from the Hampton tournament finals between Hampton and HV?

king, your crown must have been over your eyes or you were sitting too far away from the court to see the game. bad officiating? cloudland must learn to move their feet on defense and not try to block so many shots. the highlanders shot more free throws than the warriors. the warriors just have a few more players. the landers did get the tempo in their favor at first but when hv subed in the second five it went to a more up tempo game which allowed hv to catch up and go ahead. the warriors still don't have a good rotation down but cloudland helped them with some unforced turnovers and quick shots. mr tolley was a non factor and mr. byrd has been watching too many pro games. hv did their normal and tried to let cloudland back in the game with their inability to play smart and a lack of effort on defense at the end (was giving up the 3 and fouling). tell mr. byrd he's a lot better going to the goal (directly) instead of all that waste of time showing his ballhandling skills. tell mr. tolley to bring his "a" game every night. I'll tell the warriors to get it going a lot sooner and try not to fall into the other team's tempo. I'll tell them to learn to put someone away when they have the chance. predictions on monday mr. king?

king, good observation, but are you sick. giving out compliments instead of telling us how cloudland will dominate. a bit of christmas spirit get into you. not used to that side. keep up the good work and maybe the valley will turn things around. not sure the lady landers will dominate but they sure do play hard. a little less talent this year but still seem to find a way to win some games. will be a good game between them and the lady rangers. if you have any suggestions for the lady warriors be sure to let us know.

don't think it really matters for them this year. not too many in the tournament they can beat. down year for the bulldogs. doesn't make for an interesting finals though. makes the first and second round games a little better than the finals. has been a really good tournament in the past. hv and crockett a really good first round game. should be pretty close.

sullivan north is a little better than people think but that is no excuse for the valley losing to them. i don't see any change in the lady warriors real soon. they just don't play hard at all times. can't seem to get anyone take charge. not really sure they care a lot about it. think some of the younger ones might but if they are exposed to a careless attitude in time they will feel the same. lady warriors have some talent but the lack of scoring combined with the unwillingness to defend doesn't make for a good combination. would really like to see them show some emotion and turn things around.

Anyone know the brackets for the Shouns Lumber Christmas tournament to be played at Hampton? Any information would be appreciated.

krich, i was trying to make the point that unaka needed to start playing the way they are capable of playing. if everyone keeps telling them it is ok if they don't get the job done they never will. they need to pick the pace up now. if you consider saying it is not ok for them to underacheive as putting them down then yes i was. i would even say the same thing about the lady warriors. teams cannot accept just showing up on given nights and expect to make it down the road. they must improve with each day of pactice and in each game. using excuses not to do what they should is not acceptable. if they are going to be as good as everyone is saying then they must start proving it. the season is a month old and people are still saying wait and see. if i were them i would want to see it now. then get on here and start telling everyone how they are kicking everybody's rear instead letting them off the hook by making excuses for them. same goes for the lady warriors.

keepingscore, i think you have been in the books too long. you need to look up and see what has been posted. no where did i try to tell coach chambers what to do. all i said was the lady rangers and their fans need to quit making excuses and start getting results. how this is achieved is up to coach chambers and the players. i never said the warriors were "mighty" and they are far from that. i said "it was time to put up or shut up" for the lady rangers. as far as not caring about the success of the lady rangers you are wrong there also. i would like to see them be successful, if they deserve it. if they truly care, if they work hard at it, then i would like to see them succeed. if they don't then they don't deserve the statements of could have, should have, or just wait and see. it's time for the lady rangers to step up and prove it, not just say it. as far as being a bench-warmer or bleacher-riding spectator, i've collected many a splinter and will continue to do so. but until i see results i will continue to ask why aren't the lady rangers playing like they should. results not cheap talk.

richk and scorekeeper, this thread was about unaka girls losing to a not very good north greene team and if they continue to get excuses made for them on why they are not playing to their potential then they will continue to look for them. If you want to read my thoughts on the hv lady warrior basketball team then look at some of the hv threads. they don't play close to where they should be playing also. see again here instead of facing the fact that the lady rangers are not doing what they should you all try to turn everyone's attention to someone or something else instead of dealing with the problem. i understand this is your team and you should be proud of them but get them to play how they should. get them to the level they should be playing on. don't down grade other teams just to try and make yours look ok. it won't fix a thing. i would like to see them succeed. i would like to see results not just talk.

volunteer fans if you would have read the thread it did say in carter county. yes the falcons can play but they are not in the county. rainman, remember if it is raining you are supposed to have enough since to get out of the rain. don't see how you can say unaka is better than hv when hv beat them pretty bad. who was there, who was not doesn't make any difference. this is a team sport and team hv beat team unaka. and if you look at it all, elizabethton did beat the valley, so that would make unaka third. as far as bayless goes when you have won as many games as him then you can tell him its time to get out. one more question, if you watched unaka play last night then how did you watch the valley also? just wondering. too much water can turn you into a prune.

it's about put up or shut up time for the lady rangers. all we read is how good they are going to be. just wait and see. we could be waiting to see next year. don't make excuses. just get results and then talk about it.

maybe a poll from your heart creeker but not from any results. boys 1. elizabethton (beat hv and hampton) 2. hv (beat unaka) 3. unaka (beat somebody not from here) 4 & 5. cloudland & hampton (beat nobody) girls 1. elizabethton (beat hv and hampton) 2. cloudland (beat hv) 3. unaka (beat hv but got beat by north greene, you got to be kidding) 4 & 5. hv & hampton (hampton might even be better than 2 through 4) so pick by results, it means more.

that should make for an interesting game. think elizabethton's freshmen are a little better than thought of. will be interesting to see if hv's williams can match up with the inside game of the cyclones. both are pretty young. also see if whaley can mantain enough composure to stay in the game without getting into foul trouble. do you think elizabethton will be able to press hv? can byrd handle the pressure? can hv guard anyone? haven't done a good job of that yet (of the games I've watched). maybe in some I've missed. will dugger show up tonight. seems to have gotten lost in a few of their games. need her to score. a lot of questions could be answered tonight. hopefully not the should of or could of ones or the bad officating ones just the team ones.

sure it didn't give him or his team a boost of confidence. of course you can't always believe what the papers says. they have a way of taking statements and making them a little more interesting. probably asked him if he thought he would ever get back in coaching and they made it sound like he was ready to comeback today.

asis, why is it that so many coaches have started their coaching careers there but have never stayed? i agree with you that double standards are held for certain players and more discipline should be implemented but do you truly think most people really care about the boys basketball program? i'm sure there are a few that really do but look at most of the threads on here, it seems to always end up in football talk. of course with the success they have had it's something to talk about. i haven't seen a lot of schools that have really been successful in more than one sport. are you a player? if so how do most of the other players feel? about Tolley and so forth? do you think coach white would be able to turn these players around?

does anyone know weither rikki baughman will be playing tonight? if she does should be an interesting game depending on which hv team shows up.

don't think coach white would want to make the cloudland scene again. tried it and left. he is a bulldog through and through. besides cloudland doesn't want a basketball program to compete with the football program. hampton might could use his help. but like down here at HV, sometimes the game just passes you by. sometimes its better looking in from the outside, then be looking out from the inside.

justwatchin, thats what I'm talking about. you say the boys played through it. and so could have the girls. good teams will do that. good teams will work through all adversity. unaka girls must learn to do tha if they want to be a good team. until then they will just be an average team that should be good. a coach and players must fine ways to win. even when things are not going well. they must make their own breaks. not look for them but make them. you said they didn't bring their "a" game. why not? was it not a conference game? are they not trying to win the conference? it should have been one of the most important games of the year? good teams realize that. the lady warriors don't realize that either. they are not a good team. could unaka and happy valley be good teams? I think so, but they will have to change their way of thinking. this is a very hard think to do. "a" games must show up every night. don't look for excuses just results.

if the refs are always horrible then why make a fuss. It's about time to put the blame where it really lies. On the girls and the coach. Teams must overcome trying situations to become good teams. Teams that can not do this are just average. If Unaka wants to be known as a good team then they will have to come to play their game everynight. You as a player or coach can do nothing about the officating good or bad. You must be able to handle all situations. On good teams players step up when something goes wrong, such as a player getting into foul trouble. On average teams they look for someone or something to blame it on. Bottom line, Unaka should have taken care of business. If they could beat them 30 points at home or on a neutral floor then they should have beaten them at North Greene. No excuses.

Right before the basketball season starting all I was reading was how good the Cloudland Highlander basketball team was going to be. It has started now and teams are proving their worth, good or bad. Cloudland isn't playing very well and it shows by the nonposting on coacht. If they were winning would there be a lot of Highlander posts? You bet. Come on Lander faithful. Where are you? Give us posts not only when you're winning but also when times aren't so good. Let us know how and why things are not turning out like predicted. We are interested. By the way at least there are still some posts for Unaka (not as many) and they aren't playing that well either. Come out of hiding and let us know what is going on.

Anyone know how the game between HV and University High ended last night? Read paper this morning but said it was a late game and didn't have the score. The Lady Warriors shouldn't have had any problems with UH but have been known in the past to sometimes play to the level of their competition. So any information would be appreciated. Anyone have any predictions on the HV vs. Cloudland game on Friday?

Hey guys from reading some of the earlier posts I think we're missing the true point here. Would Tolley be playing if he was just an average player? If an average player had quit as many times as it is said Tolley has, and missed as many times as Tolley has, would he still be playing. I don't believe you can justify treating a player different just because he has all the ability in the world. Yes Tolley from what I've seen could be a great player. He is a Senior isn't he? If he's not developed by now I kind of doubt he will. Sounds just like another kid that could have been. And they've been a lot of them. The team must come first to build a program. Sometimes sacrifices must be made in order to develop the foundation. Is winning some games more important then teaching a young man responsiblity, dedication, and good work ethic. Not only him but other members of the team. Coaches sometimes feel they can't win without certain players, but are they really winning? I also think Coach Smith has done a good job but maybe has overlooked what his decisions with Tolley has done to the rest of the team.

If it deals with one of the member schools then it is about the Watauga Conference. Anyway not surprised by many of the scores, just Unicoi and Central. Did Central play to win or just to play? Did Unicoi look better than predicted? A lot of questions surrounding both of these programs could be asked now. I know a lot of coaches try to make sure everyone gets into the game in the Jamboree and some coaches like to make a statement. Enlighten me ole CHHS72, would you please? Who won the 3 point shooting and dunking contest?
