  1. Was wondering if anyone could tell me U.C.'s football starters? Thanks!
  2. Our thoughts and prayers in Greenfield are for this young man and his family. Please keep us updated on his condition and if help is needed.
  3. Celina Dawg, the only reason I left them off my top ten was just because I haven't seen them play. I'll be honest, I really know nothing about them. My top ten obviously is skewed, as is every ranking (including the "official" rankings). But it is just impossible to have a true top ten when 1. People from the three regions of the state (West, Middle and East) rarely see teams from the other areas and 2. Those teams from the three different regions of the state rarely play each other. No disrespect meant to Celina, it's just difficult to select 10 teams from the 100 or so that play single A ball when you only see about a third of them.
  4. #3 was actually Senior Tyler Porter. He wears 3 in the orange unies and 14 in the black. 24 was Senior Adam Vaughn. 25 was Sophomore Brandon Shane. 20 was Junior Clint Blackburn. 34 was Sophomore Jerewmy Smith.
  5. Hey Gomab, When I saw the sophomores list on here right before the tourney, I pointed out one that you had overlooked in Brandon Shane of Greenfield. Hope you got to go to the state tourney and could see him play.
  6. 1. Temple - Simply the best and proved it 2. Greenfield - The record fooled a lot of folks 3. Admasville - Could have beat anybody at tourney 4. Perry Co. - Tough first round draw 5. University - Brandon kid by himself makes them 5 6. Trenton Peabody - Unfortunate played in Region 8A 7. Mitchell - If this was top 10 athletic they would be 1 8. Summertown - If they are hitting their 3's 9. Cosby - Had to be that good to get where they did 10 Halls - Too bad most in state didn't see Vincent DeWalt play this year- played point center for them and did it all [Edited by VoiceOfJackets on 3-25-03 7:16P]
  7. Adam, please don't get upset at the Adamsville fan that is being so rude. After sitting on their side during the sub-state game, I can tell you that the majority of their fans are not this rude, it just seems the rude ones make the most noise. To the rest, let me say, that Greenfield has had a wonderful season. It has been a pleasure for me to watch this team over this past season. In defence of Adam, he is a fine young man and a very good high school basketball player. Great rebounder, could shoot inside and out, and made some of the prettiest interior passes you'll see. As for Adam, Tyler and Chad, it has been a delight to get to watch you grow from boys to fine young men. As one Temple coach said in another thread, winning shows some of your character, losing shows all of it. And you all made us proud. It has been a great honor for me to get to witness this wonderful ride. Temple was a great team, and certainly the best on that day. The score alone should indicate how well Greenfield matched up against them. If you still doubt, ask the Temple players/coaches/fans. Good luck in all you do in the future, Adam. And, one last time I'll say with Van Halen's 1984 playing in the background: "And at center, ... a 6 foot, 3 inch Senior, ... Number 24... ADAM VAUGHN!!!!!!"
  8. I also think you would want Brandon Shane from Greenfield, the 2nd leading vote getter on the all tourney team from single A. He averaged 20 points a game while being double teamed the whole tourney. If you don't realize how dangerous he is, ask the players/coaches from Summertown, USJC or Temple.
  9. Well, as far as the GREENfield name, it was given to the area by train engineers that were amazed at the GREEN FIELDS they passed by on their route (those of you that watch hunting shows know that is another name used to describe wheat fields). Yellowjackets' abdomens have yellow and black stripes generally speaking. But in some varieties, the queen has orange instead of yellow colorings. In a few varieties, according to experts on the internet that know more than me, the colorization of the yellowjacket's abdomen is "black and yellow/orange/brown". I can understand why you would wonder why the Yellowjackets colors are Orange instead of Yellow. Perhaps this explains it. If not here is another reason to ponder. We live in Tennessee. What color would we rather have than Orange?! (lol) That concludes your history and science lessons for the day. Class dismissed.
  10. Was wondering if anyone could tell me about University School. I left right after Greenfield's game to get back for church. so didn't get to see them. Also, what are their team colors and do they have a website? Thanks for the info!
  11. The reason Greenfield is condsidered a "Cinderella" is because, for whatever reason, hardly anyone is picking them to win these games. Of course, the problem with the picks on CoachT is the same problem I have with a basketball poll. People from Middle and East Tn haven't seen the West Tn teams play. Most of the time they vote on tradition and records, both of which can be misleading. No, we're not a Cinderella because we do belong there. Eveyone there does, the games decide who belongs there, not what people pick. But, as a quote in a local paper here said, no one had a tougher road to the state tournament than Greenfield (maybe as tough, I'll concede, but not tougher). And still, Greenfield got to state winning every game (even t he regional Championship that techincally they did not have to win). More and more people are seeing and believing. With eash of the last 3 games, more people are picking the Jackets. But, again, it doesn't matter. The championship will be won one the court.
  12. Well, I hate to say "I told you so", but I tried to warn all of you about picking against Greenfield. (See previous post by me on page 2 of this thread.) For the record: 94% thought Peabody would win in Region Semi's 96% thought Mitchell would win in Region Final 81% thought Adamsville would win sub-state 76% thought Summertown would win first round game Does this mean anything now? No. But one thing it does show is that for all the schedules, articles, game break-downs, etc. that CoachT.com has for us, there is one stat it does not measure....heart. I appreciate your opinion PointForward (Larry Bird? lol), but, the boys are just taking it one game at a time. That is how they got this far. And certainly you can't look past University School. They have had a great season and are a great team (anyone in the final four is). But if recent CoachT history holds true, the vast majority of you will pick the Yellowjackets to be defeated by the boys from East TN. But that's okay. That glass slipper is fitting pretty good so far.
  13. AHS had 15 total fouls of which 13 were called in shooting situations, one of those after a made basket. Their last 3 were intentional to stop the clock and send the man to the line. 9 of GHS 11 fouls were made in non-shooting situations. So, taking away the 3 intentional fouls at the end of the game, team fouls were: AHS 12 - GHS 11.
  14. Well, as the only one who was supposed to be talking on the microphone that night, I can tell you how shocked I was when I heard that message come over the speakers. Not for the fact that someone else was talking, but for what you said. In fact, my sarcastic comment to my brother was, "Nothing like losing with class". You are correct, it was an immature thing to do, and it did make the Admasville fans look bad. But, let me also say that it is very mature (and takes a lot of guts) to 'fess up and admit when wrong. In fact, there are many adults twice and 3 times your age who are not mature enough to admit when they are wrong. We all make mistakes, the difference in the truly wise and the foolish, is that the wise LEARN from their mistakes. Hope you learned from yours, and hope to see a more mature you next year when Greenfield and Adamsville face off again, either in sub-state or State.
  15. Do keep an eye on one you overlooked. Brandon Shane from Greenfield. 6'2" F. Actually can play all 5 positions. Been starting since an eighth grader. Handles the ball, shoots the trey, unstoppable on blocks, rebounds, and often draws the opponents top offensive player. As one previous post said, he did make all-district and all-region (just as he did his freshman year). But what he did not tell you was this. District 15A and Region 8A do not name an MVP. But for all practical purposes, Brandon was. He was the top-vote-getter in both the all district and all-region teams. Another to watch that I did not see on the list is Peabody's Nicchaeus Doaks, a 6'6" PF, who also was all district and all region.
  16. There was a question about a Mitchell's players year. The players that get the most PT for them are : (Powell, 6'3" Fr), (Jones, 6' Jr), (Thornton, 6'4" Fr), (Taylor, 6'6" Jr), (Atkins, 6'3" Jr), (Driver, 6'3" Fr), (Young, 6'7" Fr), (Relliford, 6'4" Jr). Very athletic. Very Big. 2 Seniors that are 3rd string. As one post said, they are a 2A school playing in single A. Which, by the way, Greenfield beat by 10 in the regional championship. Here's my picks: Mitchell, Perry Co., Greenfield, Crosby Perry Co., Greenfield GREENFIELD!!!! Am I biased? Sure I am. But before you pick against them, remember: 94% thought Peabody would win in Region Semi's 96% thought Mitchell would win in Rehion Final 81% thought Adamsville would win sub-state Does this mean anything now? No. But one thing it does show is that for all the schedules, articles, game break-downs, etc. that CoachT.com has for us, ther is one stat it does not measure....heart.
  17. Well, as you have heard, Greenfield is a good team that playes with a lot of heart. More than that I can tell you that they are a well-coached team (John Glisson is perhaps the best in the state, who has 2 great assistants in Willie Trevathan and Don Durden, who, by the way, coached the Yellowjackets to the title in 1984). They are a defensive minded team. If Summertown can, as one post said, shoot 70% against the Jackets, then they will win the championship. They have good inside outside play with great shooters from down-town, and a future Mr. Basketball down low. Great leadership. They have a knack for making a play when they need to. They are not gonna blow a team out, but they will do whatever it taked to win. Maybe most important, they have a good understanding of the game and what each one's role is. They play within themselves. Don't be fooled by the record. They lost 7 of those games to 2A and 3A teams by an average difference of 7 points. And beat the next-year-going-2A Mitchell Tigers by 10 in the District Championship. As one post said, everyone you meet this time of year is good. And they all will be well coached enough to know who is the other team's big threat. It seems that it usually the team with the "unlikely hero" that steps up who wins. Will that be Greenfield or Summertown? Who knows, but I can't wait to see it! GO JACKETS!
